BVHE/Disney: what's the deal with PSP pricing strategy?

Post by MadonnasManOne »

As you may, or may not know, BVHE announced that they will be releasing movies on Sony's UMD format, for play on the PSP. While this may sound exciting, it fails to be, when you consider the price that BVHE is suggesting for their releases.

While Circuit City and Best Buy both had other UMD titles available for between $12.99 (Circuit City), and $14.99 (Best Buy), they both had Kill Bill Volume 1 and Pirates of the Carribean for $29.99! That's ridiculous! Why would anyone, in their right mind, spend almost three times MORE on the UMD release. You can get both of these films for around $10.00-$15.00 on DVD. Why BVHE is charging so much, I'll never know. I can't imagine ANYONE picking up these films on UMD, if that's how much you have to spend.

The other titles available, at more reasonable prices, are: Hellboy, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, and XXX. House of Flying Daggers could be purchased for the same price as the DVD ($17.99)

At any rate, I can't see the format taking off, if the prices are going to be the same, or higher, than DVD releases. Now, if Disney were to release some of their animated classics, and/or Pixar films, at a more reasonable price, I would certainly pick up a few of those. In fact, if they released all of the Pixar films on UMD, and priced them at $10.00-$15.00, then I would pick them all up!

Yea, there were a gripload in stock!

I don't get it though, why wouldn't the prices be LOWER?
I mean, come on. that thing is...expensive.
Why won't the extra items be a lot cheaper?!

If the UMD titles get cheaper, I'd for sure buy the PSP. ;) :p

They will charge whatever the suckers will pay.

I wouldn't dream of buying a movie for my library on a format as volatile as those in the gaming arena--not even if it was cheaper than the regular DVDs.
