MMB Reviews Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi

Post by MickeyMouseboy »

Today marks the "Return of the Voice" this how Mariah Carey 9th studio album was marketed in fact Mariah Carey never left. Back When Glitter bombed and her former Label Virgin Records dropped her with a large amount of Ca$h. Everyone wondered what would would happen to Mariah. Was it her time to step into the "has been" hall with the rest of the past talents? Little did we know her time had not come. Def Jam record signed her up and the result was Mariah's come back with "Through the Rain" from her 8th studio album Charmbracelet. The song brought Mariah back to her roots and what most fans were waiting for. Now in 2005 Mariah again evolves with Emancipation. The Album sounds more like a mix of butterfly and charmbracelet. The sounds are fresh and give an air of freedom for Mimi.

It's Like That .- The 1st Single that took the world by storm lol a very nice upbeat come back mariah style.

We Belong Together .- 2nd Single that it's making it's way to the top. very nice video. This has to be my favorite song from this CD. sounds like Butterfly mixed with Breakdown. very nice song!

Shake It Off .- This song is kinda hard to get use to the first two listens. It sound like it came off an Usher CD. after the 3rd listen you should flow thru this song with no problem. Not my favorite.

Mine Again .- This song is awesome! It's a rhythm I haven't heard mariah sing in ages! this should be the next single! this is mariah back between musicbox and daydream. LOVE IT!

Say Somethin' (ft Snoop Dogg) .- I know what you might be thinking! it's that rap hip hop mariah carey thang. well.......YOU'RE WRONG! this is a funky song! very fresh for mariah. Snoop is present there but very unnoticeable and actually adds to the song! This song very upbeat. this song is hot! LOVE IT!

Stay the Night .- This song has new rhythms that i've never heard in a mariah carey song which makes this album a whole new experience from any other mariah CD! very hot hot song! LOVE IT!

Get Your Number (ft. Jermaine Dupri) .- I love the beginning of this song! haha it makes you want to heard this song so back and then it breaks down to a funky club song. while im not a big fan of JD he actually sings in this song so he's not as annoying as he could be! everyone get your dancing shoes cause this is a dancing track! LIKE IT

One and Only (ft. Twista) .- This song i get mixed feelings. I dont know if to like it or not. It has beats that we heard on charmbracelet and some new beats but im not big fan of twista. this song has like a bubble pop kinda beat and just having twista rap in the middle just doesn't seem like my kinda song. still i have to give her credit for this. NEUTRAL

Circles .- Ol' school slow song! do i need to say something else? Mariah's best vocals in this album! Mariah is back! LOVE IT!

Your Girl .- This has a funk to it. this song could do without the chorus. mariah let's it rip in this one! LOVE IT!

I Wish You Knew .- This is a a very awesome track! has a Always be your baby sung live feel. what's good about this track Mariah seems to sing this live or added some audience to the track. Due to this the song has a airy feel which makes it sound fresh and enjoyable! LOVE IT!

To The Floor (Ft. Nelly) .- what can i say about this song? hahaha I despise Nelly! this song would be awesome without him! This is also a dance track. Thankfully Nelly is used to the enjoyable limit not overly done which makes this track a whole new Mariah experience. This is another new track i've never heard Mariah sing! LOVE IT!

Joy Ride .- for you guys that liked rainbow this song makes me think of that period in Mariah's carrier. LIKE IT

Fly Like a Bird .- I like this song! Daydream flashback anyone? That album it's my favorite Mariah CD.

Overall from a rating from 1-5 I have to give Mimi a 4 1/2 stars. This album brings back Mariah to her Columbia/Sony years. Long gone is the Hip Hop crazed Mariah! This CD is fresh, up to date and a whole new sensorial experience for any Mariah Carey Fan!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Awsome great review Mickey Mouse Boy. This might actually be a blind buy for me because Mariah is a great singer and I did love both Butterfly and Charm bracelet. :)

I hope the rest of the album is nothing like her first single. I really don't like "It's Like That". It's probaply better than Glitter, I'll listen to it sometime.

Is it just me, or has Mariah been rendered to look exactly like Beyonce there?

the phtography of the CD is done by the same person who did Beyonce's "dangerously in love" cover!

There was an article in Entertainment Weekly about her looking like Beyonce on that cover. Why do they make her skin look like that? It's so much darker than it really is!

Well I've had the album for over a week now (living in the UK rules!) and I have to say that its close to becoming my favourite Mariah album. Charmbracelet and Daydream are my current favourites but there's just so much to this CD, plus it includes two of my now ALL TIME favourite Mariah songs We Belong Together and Fly Like A Bird.

I'm so glad that MC is properly back.

Ok, fair enough.

But that doesn't explain why Mariah is black now :D

Ok this whole Beyonce thing is so annoying, both Mariah and Beyonce have dressed provocatively before now, Mariah wore the blonde hair first, and is older and has been around longer, so if anything BEYONCE looks like MARIAH!!! Also Mariah doesn't look like beyonce in the first place. I hardly think the picture is used to confuse as it says MARIAH one side and CAREY on the other. Besides fans of Beyonce would know if a new cd was coming out from her, so I think it is just plain old stupidity on the part of the people perpetuating this rumor/gossip! That in no way is in reference to those on this board, but those in the industry causing this problem!

And another thing: Mariah was made to appear white by Sony in the 90's, because they figured that it would sell better, and they were right. Mariah has always been black but was not allowed to look it. If that makes sense.

Nobody is perpetuating anything. It is quite clearly a Mariah album as you have pointed out, but look at the damn photo! It looks like they've morphed Mariah's face into a picture of Beyonce. If you took the head off and said "identify this body", I'd probably guess Beyonce.

I don't think it is designed to confuse - maybe it is, maybe it isn't - but I was only pointing out an INCREDIBLE similarity.

Don't give a rat's arse about Beyonce, mate. But it strikes me that the photos are similar.

I wouldn't be caught dead listening to either :D

Thanks for the review, MMB.

That's disappointing. Of the albums I own (Mariah Carey - Rainbow), Butterfly is my 2nd least favorite (second only to Rainbow). I think of Butterfly is pretty good, but not as good as her previous stuff. I never listened to anything from Charmbracelet, but I had always heard that it was the same style.

I have to agree that she does look similar to recent Beyonce photos, but that probably has as much to do with the gold outfit than anything else.
