Will Disney edit the future Little Mermaid DVD?

Post by TheBionicWoman »

I was looking at the Toon Zone Forum, and someone said that Disney plans to edit some scenes in the Little Mermaid. The part where Ursula transforms Ariel into a human and when she comes up out of the water,(she is half nude). Can anyone verify this for me? I plan to buy this set when it comes out in a few years (platinum) and I will be very, very angry if Disney edits this film differently from the way it was in the theater!

She isnt nude... her bare back and legs are showing, who cares... Mermaids dont wear pants anyways, if this is edited out it will be a really stupid decision and to be honest, I dont think that person at the Toonzone forums had any basis for what he/she was commenting. I read it there also and ignored that thread because it seems like an insiginificant rumor. How would that person have obtained such information and why would Disney really care about something so trivial...

Mermaid is already one of Disney's most scandalice movies, with the falick shaped tower and the priest's "knee", the audience will be ready to jump down Disney's throat, if it is even questionable that something inappropriate is shown, therefore I dod not blame disney for taking every precaution. They just better do it for the "Special Edition" version, and leave the original theatrical version alone, however, even if they do change it for both versions, I got my TLM limited edition DVD  Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

I honestly wouldn't be suprised if they did, but as said before, I doubt this person has any cannon basis for saying this.

Then again, they edited the dust in the clouds in "The Lion King", no doubt in part to people misinterpreting it as "SEX."

They might reduce the size of Ariel's breasts... Just so no one will be offended by them.

You have got to be kidding me.
There was absolutely nothing wrong about that scene in 1988, so what has changed in 15 years other than the fact that less than 1% of the population seems to be dictating what we can or cannot see/watch/read?

Hee hee hee...

All I can say is I'm glad I actually have this one on DVD. Hate to think they'd mess with it too much. I mean, I understand their reasons for originally taking out the infamous scene in the topless bar (everyone was smoking apparently), but enough is enough!

I also hear they are removing the line "darling it's better, down where it's wetter" from the song 'Under the Sea' in case there is any ambiguity.

From what I've heard, the issue is not with the scene itself, on normal screens, atleast... but they are afraid that when the picture is blown up for the I'Max release that it could cause some problems...

soo funny!

Post by Mermaid Kelly »

 :D  That is soo funny! They would never ruin a classic movie by doing such stupid things. The only thing they might do is change the small scene with the priest.
