Brief Lion King DVD Supplemental Features Summary

Post by Jack »

My friend has had the 2-Disc Set in his hands for a while, and I finally convinced him to at least take a look at the second disc and give a summery as to what it had to offer. Here's his verdict:

Each section of the second disc (Story Journey, Film Journey, etc.) runs an average of about 20-30 minutes. He said all together, it feels like one big documentary on the film. I asked him how in-depth it was, and he compared it to Beauty and the Beast's hour-long doc (I assume he meant the bridged-featurettes in the Cogsworth and Lumier section of BATB). He said he started to watch the Virtual Safari and turned it off after watching only some of it because he said it was "cheap" and "stupid". He commented on the menus, saying they were very nice.

That was about it. Keep in mind that this person is not a huge Disney fan, so if it sounds like an un-inthusiastic review, chock some of the reason up to that he only enjoys watching extras to movies that are top favorites of his.

I like your new avatar jack :)

I hope this is not worse and more babied up than BATB, mind you, I was happy with the Platinum BATB, but for some reason it just doesn't seem that TLK will be quite up to par in all aspects including the additional new song.

I hope I am wrong. I guess we'll see come October 7th, earlier for some...

Dammit Jack, quit being nice.

Tell him one of two things. Either he put some time into a REAL review for us or:

1) You're gonna kick his ASS
2) You're gonna post his info on a Disney site and the fact that he has a bootlegged copy in his possession -- and let things happen on their own from there 8)

I expect to see much more information out of this person very soon

Thanks Prince Phil. 8) Lumier & Cogsworth are probably my favorite characters in the entire Disney plethora. I've been liking your Sleeping Beauty avatars too.

As for the SFs, I'm fairly confident they'll at least be on par with BATB's - which is good, but tnothing more: the DVD really should be great. I hope Disney can get back up to the level of Snow White's DVD really soon. Otherwise, I have a feeling the more recent films in the platinum collection are going to continue getting lesser features, while the older ones will get the real deal.

 If I did that, he'd probably kick my ass. 160 lbs vs. 220 lbs is a bit one-sided

You should be much quicker...just get a few shots in at the knees then stay out of reach.
Basically jump in quick then jump back out.

You can do it Jack...it's called taking one for the team :D

Hahahaha yeah c'mon Jack you can do it. Either that or just "borrow" the dvd from him sometime, hahaha. You know Mr. Krabs' rule of borrowing, you can borrow whatever you want as long as you take it back before it's missed. So since this guy's not a big Disney fan he probably won't miss it. :P :D

I didn't ask my pal about disc 1 that much, but he did say the transfer of the movie on his bootleg was superb, and is probably the same quality as the actual set.

Thanks for the info Jack.

Also, ask him if the DVD set has any of the original 1994 trailers. A yes or no answer would be fine.

Unfortunately, the feature lists I've seen don't list the original trailers. :(

Also, is the Disney Enhanced Theatre 5.1 track a Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 EX track? Something else?

I can't wait to see how the romantic scenes look! I need to wait until October to see the pretty jungle green and yellow foliage.
