Classic Cartoon Favorites?

Post by MinnieMe »

I've recently started my Disney DVD collection (with a bang, just read my intro in the first thread).

I've been looking at the Classic Cartoon Favorites collection and they look great- I miss all of the shorts that I used to watch on the Disney Channel when I was a kid. I did recently purchase the Treasures: Mickey in Color vol 2 and LOVE it (I'm watching the second disc now). So I was going to purchase the Donald one too (off of overstock).

I missed out on Mickey vol 1 and Goofy, so I was planning on buying the Classic Cartoon Favs: Mickey, Goofy, and Chip & Dale. I feel like I should have the whole set if I'm already getting 3 of them... but it said most of the Donald shorts are on the Treasures.

Should I get all 4 of the Collection and the Donald Treasure? Or should I just get 3? Opinions?

You should try to get all the Treasures of shorts from Waves 1 thru 4 that you can off Ebay or somewhere. The Cartoon Classics are allright, but nearly everything you can get from them are (or will be) available from the Treasures line. If Ebay isn't an option, or is too expensive at the moment, definately at least get the Donald vol. 1 Treasure. I also got into the Treasures too late; in my case to buy either of the first 2 Waves when first released. By the time I was interested in them, even the 3rd Wave was beginning to dissapear from some stores. I've managed to get all of them so far, though, except "Mickey Mouse in Living Colour Vol 1" (unfortunately the hardest to get; at least in terms of expense). I'm planning to find an auction on Ebay for it next week, though, and buy it. I just got my tax refund from the government this week for a bit more than $2100, and I figure I can now afford the $100-140 or so it may cost me to buy this.

The "documentary"/other Treasures (Davy Crockett, Disneyland USA, Behind the Scenes, Front Lines, Tomorrowland & MMC) should probably be taken on a case-by-case basis; wherever your interests lie. Personally, I decided to buy 3 of those 6 (Behind the Scenes, Front Lines & Tomorrowland). I just couldn't imagine I'd ever find the other 3 interesting.

A friendly tip from Aaron long time ago.. :)

Get a Disney Gift Card from Best Buy and there's a coupon there "if you buy 4 DVDs, save $15.00". Originally the 4 classic favorites are priced at 9.99 (or for the sake of adding better, I'll say $10. ;))

so $40.00 - 15.00 = $25.00 for all 4 DVDs. :)

How do you get a Disney Gift Card from Best Buy? I went to the website and they don't have that under the list of gift cards... :?

It can only be purchased in Best Buy stores...usually cashiers have it and you can fill it to any amount you want! $1.00 - $100.00. (I filled mine to $5.00 and the cashier thought I was weird) ;) Sadly, that offer doesn't apply online so you gotta line up and hope the DVDs are there. :)

Your best bet, if you're a completist, and want ALL of the shorts is to attempt to find all of the Treasures releases. It can still be done offline, as I've found all of the ones I've wanted (Silly Symphonies, Mickey Mouse In Living Colours Volume 1, Mickey Mouse In Black And White Volume 1, Chronological Donald Volume 1, Mickey Mouse In Living Colour Volume 2, and On The Front Lines) except 1 The Complete Goofy (which I'm still looking for) in stores in my area. You just have to be patient and willing to do a lot of calling around. Believe me, it is possible. If you're not too concerned about owning all of the shorts, then I would say that your best bet (money wise) is to go with all 4 CCFs, for the sake of completion.
Cheers!

My advice would be to get all the treasures you can from ebay or Amazon marketplace. They will build to be a complete collection of Disney's shorts and other stuff as well. All are completely unedited (except for 3 accidental hiccups) and in most cases are restores or taken from a great print. They also have good bonue features too.

The Classic Cartoon favourites onlyl have a handful of shorts per disc, they are edited the picture quality is not that good and they are picked from all over the place so we won't get the complete collection. My advice would be to forget all about them don't waste your money on them and instead use it on tracking down the Treasures!

That's true; some of them can still be found in stores if you're very lucky. In the last 2 or 3 months, I managed to find "The Complete Goofy", "Behind the Scenes", & "Mickey Mouse in B&W Volume 1". I bought them up immediately when I saw them, and I haven't seen any of the Wave 1 or 2 except "Behind the Scenes" since.

Around my area (Toronto), I still know of 2 available copies of "Behind the Scenes", and 1-2 copies of each Wave 3 title. Other than that, I haven't seen anything buy Wave 4. I'll likely have to get "Mickey Mouse in Living Colour Vol. 1" (the last one that I need) from Ebay.

Since so many seem to be thinking of completing their WDT collections via ebay I may aswell post this link here.

This seller is very good and even though there are a lot of untrustworthy sellers, I recommend this one!

Thanks for all the replies!

I ordered the Donald one off overstock and I think I will probably end up getting the other 4 collections. (If anything I can save them for my future kids to ruin  ). I'd LOVE to have all the Treasures but it's just not an option financially right now. There are a lot of other movies I want (I just opened a DMC membership) and have bought so many recently. I may try to track down the treasures I really want (like Mickey in living color 1) and will probably look at a movie outlet nearby that isn't often frequented.

Thanks for all of the tips and I'm impressed at all of your collections! Maybe someday...

You may be able to get them through DMC, or so I've heard. I can't join because I'm in Canada, but I've seen posts in here about people who've ordered some of the older Treasures through the DMC, might be something to look into
