June Update>> Upcoming UK Disney releases

Post by 2099net »

So much for the UK Beauty and the Beast release being for a "limited time only" - 2nd June see's a boxset of "Beauty and the Beast/Belle's Magical World"
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000079844

Also on 2nd June is the long awaited release of "THe Black Hole" (I broke down and imported the Australian release a couple of months ago)
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000079342

Not strictly a Disney title, but "Power Rangers: The Ultimate Rangers" best-of compliation also has a 2nd June release.
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000079200

"Lizzie McGuire - Season 1.3 - Come Fly With Me" is released on 9th June, continuing the sequential release of the first season (interesting to note these are not released by Buena Vista in the UK)
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000080074

"Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams" is released on 30th June (Has this been to the UK cinemas?)
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000079765

The often asked about "Adventures of Ichabod and Mister Toad" is out on 7th July making vol 1 of the "Disney Fables" line seem even more redundant.
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000080147

7th July also sees the UK "Treasure Planet" release

The end of July sees the belated release of Atlantis II: Milo's Return
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659626

along with The Country Bears in the same week
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659840

sadly for Matty - the Adventures of Icabod and Mr Toad seems to have the US cover
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=660237

Disney Fables Vol 3 and 4 are released 11th August. No news on the contents but 3 is rumoured to be more Silly Symphonies (including The Tortoise and the Hare) while 4 is rumoured to be Donald in Mathmagic Land and Ben and Me
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659843
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659844

The 11th August also sees the UK release of The Herbie Collection
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=660239

The following week (18th) sees Disney's live action DTV George Of The Jungle II released:
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659846

I still can't find vol 2, but the 1st September sees the release of The Magical World Of Winnie The Pooh - It's Playtime With Pooh - Vol. 3, more episodes from the animated TV series
http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/ ... uid=659850

After than things get hazy. Supplements for "Make Mine Music" and "Melody Time" have also been passed by the BBFC, so hopefully these will be out before the year's end.

Wow, I didn't even know Lizzie McGuire was being released on DVD in the UK. And in complete chronological order.

Very cool. Bet you Buena Vista doesn't give US that kind of treatment.

Matty - that's the VHS cover. I'm 100% sure the DVD cover will be different.

I always thought it was unfair that the US release only shows Ichabod on the cover - then again "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is an American story. Perhaps the UK release will only show Mr. Toad! :)

As we all know, these are two of the ones that were edited in the US. I don't think we know if these have been restored for a UK release yet, but my understanding is that 'Saludos Amigos' is available there.
You wouldn't happen to know if it is unedited (with the cigarettes!) would you, 2099?

Hopefully, although I doubt it, Make Mine Music will have the deleted scene ("The Martins and the Coys") reinserted. Although unlikely, I can but hope! I supposed you can't risk offending those hillbillies in the southern parts of the UK.

I guess that'd be the Welsh :D

Can we start on the Welsh jokes now? It's ok I'm 'half' Welsh, it's OK!

Also, the release of Ichabod in the UK gives me hope that we will see it here and I wont have to pay ridiculous amounts of money to mport it from the US....

Sorry Loomis - I have the R1 "Saludos Amigos" so I haven't actually seen the R2 version. However, although it is released I haven't actually seen it in any shops, and even Amazon.co.uk seems to be missing the cover scan. Considering it's apparent unpopularity, I would say it's 99% certain the same transfer as the R1 release.

As for "Make Mine Music" and the Martin and the Coys segment the official reason for the omission is because of the "extensive gunplay" featured. Something that could be considered a problem in America where everybody has a right to own guns, but not really an issue in the UK where less than 0.3% of the population are officially licenced to own firearms. However, the last VHS release of "MMM" in the UK did have the Martin and the Coys segment removed (leading me to suspect that Disney UK are simply reusing the American prepeared transfers). Rest assured that I'm keeping an eye out on the BBFC for the actual film to be certified, and once it is I will report here on the actual running time.

I'm hoping that since Roy Disney became aware of the editing problems, and stated that it would something he would try to stop of future releases (and fix on existing releases re-issues) that we will indeed see the full unedited release of "Make Mine Music" and "Melody Time". After all, the UK have waited long enough for these two releases (and are still waiting...)

As for offending Hillbilly's - what a ridiculous suggestion - we all know Hillbilly's wouldn't have DVD players in the first place to view the film on! :)

I'd like to know what's up with some of the UK DVD mail-order outlets not shipping to the USA?

I've been trying to find an online shop that sells the B/W version of "The Absent-Minded Professor". I found a couple of them (the Discs are R1 - go figure) but they don't ship to the 'States. What a bummer. I refuse to purchase the "Color-ized" version, and will stick with my LD, if I can't find the B/W version.

Do any of you "Blokes" (sorry if I spelled that wrong) know of any e-shops that sell the B/W version, and ships to the USA?

Some UK e-tailers won't ship to non-European countries becuase of the local sales tax (VAT) which is added onto every order. If shipping outside the EU, VAT is not payable. Some e-tailer's don't have the software to handle removing the VAT from your order total (and at 17.5%, you'll want it removed!) I don't know what the deal with PLAY is, as they're technically outside the EU and don't pay VAT (which is why they are so cheap).

I don't know of any release of The Absent-Minded Professor in Europe. If you say you found a UK based e-tailer selling a R1 Black and White copy it sounds to me that they made a mistake on their specification listing and if you ordered it you would recieve the colourised R1 disc (lots of e-tailers in the UK sell import American discs as well as UK originated discs).

Remember, if there was a European release you were interested in, you would need to make sure your player and/or television would display a PAL signal, or convert PAL to NTSC for display on your television.

I can answer the question about "Saludos Admigos", it IS edited :(

2099, I know we wont get the same cover of "Ichabod" for the DVD as the VHS (we NEVER do) but I hope it has a picture of Mr Toad on it (he's much funnier than Ichabod Cane).

And lastly, I'm a British hillbilly (I live in Devon) and I own a DVD player.
I hope when "Make Mine Music" and "Melody Time" do get release's (my guess is October or November) their unedited, but I think its a pipe dream.

Yep, I found 2 e-shops... Play.com & Store4DVD.com. I wouldn't be surprised if thier specs were wrong, but it was worth a shot. ;-) Thanks for the info 2099.

Got it covered. I have a player just for my multi-region discs.

Thanks again

I'll probably buy this one, so I won't bother with the Fables release. Any chance of Prince & The Pauper being released along with anything else?

Actually I don't mind that cover for Ichabod as much as I thought. Our version looks a bit bluer too me and thats an improvement, anyways cant wait to get "Treasure Planet" and "The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr Toad" when they come out.

I wish The Prince and the Pauper had been released in its original version as a special feature on "The Rescuers Down Under" DVD, but that would mean that Disney would go out of pocket.
