Quick question about credit cards.

Post by Evil Genie Jafar »

As I said before I made an order for $300 on DVD's. And right now I really need to order just a couple more.

The thing is that I haven't got the bill from the credit card yet. And I was wondering this:

must I wait to get the bill and pay the money first before I can place the new order (would be around the same amount) so that the interests don't rise or I can place the order right away and the interests would be the same?

Thanks in advance.

Just as long as you have the money to pay for your movies. I say go for it.

Just as long as you have the money in your back account to pay for it go ahead, I personally use a Debit Card.

So it comes down to this:

it doesn't matter if I order $300 more because when the bill arrives I'd paying at least for that amount and not $600 and the interests would be the same.

is this correct?

It depends on your billing cycle if the two different charges will show on one statement. If your credit limit is over 600 bucks, then your fine. Just pay the 300 when the bill arrives and your interest charge will be minimal.

you should probably take a few minutes to read through all those pamphlets the bank gives you before running out to spend money on your card. you have minimum due dates each month which need to be paid in order to ensure that interest doesnt accumulate on your existing balance. As long as you cover those payments before the required date, you can spend as much as you like until your card is maxed out. Thats no recommended, trust me.

I already made the mistake of spending the max amount of a credit card once. That's why I'm not going to make that mistake ever again.

The amount of this credit card is over $600. As I said I wanted to make sure not to spend that amount and be charged for it.

I guess I'll just wait for the bill to arrive and pay it. Just to be sure and not regret it later.

Thank you all anyways.

you dont have to wait for a cc bill after making each payment, just call your bank and find out when your due date is...

If you take your credit card with you to the bank, you can pay without the bill. I've done that before. The payment would be credited to your credit card account.

do what STASHONE said. Pay first, and then spend more later. (at least, I live on that motto! ;))

You have all probably read my statements about the problems with using a Credit Card or Debit Card on the internet. DON'T use them on the internet. No matter how safe they advertise, and how much they say they can't be hacked - they can. I have a $5,000 bill on a Credit Card for a $56 purchase to prove it. It took three years for me to get this thing cleared up and my credit rating suffered for it.

Use money orders, or better yet, quit paying the high prices on the internet, and get out and shop. You can find anything you need, at a better price if you get off your butt and get out and go shopping!! I have never in all my years found anything on the internet cheaper than going out and shop for it.

Credit cards have just us lazy, and we need to get out. And don't use the excuse that you live in a small town and don't even have a Wal-Mart. Surely you go to a bigger town once a month or so, then you take your list, your money, and GO SHOPPING!!!!!

Really? Have you tried buying anime or TV series?

Xena for example (the only TV series I buy aside of The Simpsons) range from $60 to $80... while on the Net I bought it for $45.

And in case of anime: Witch Hunter Robin Collection has a retail price of $150 and I bought if for $90; and I also bought Escaflowne Collection (9 DVDs) for $60 while the regular price is $100.

...Maybe in the US is much more easy to find places where they sell what you want at cheap prices but that's not the case in PR. Walmart here for example doesn't sell Xena; and it's the most common place where you can buy DVDs. The only other places where you can actually buy anime and most TV series are Borders, Suncoast and Spec's Music and at very high prices.

I know that you could get hacked and have to be careful but that doesn't happen to everybody. Thankfully that hasn't happened to me and I'm sorry it happened to you.

Thats not always true. I've found alot of stuff cheaper on-line. And where are you suppose to go for OOP dvd's, sometimes the net is the only place you can get them. I had more problems when I used to use money orders, I have never had any problems using my Credit Card on the net, and hopefully never will. I'm sorry that is happened to you.

I had a similar thing happen to me several years ago as well. While the problem was fixed before the next billing cycle, I did have to go through the trouble of changing my form of payment for all my on-line shopping sites, i.e. eBay, Amazon, etc. What I did to combat this problem was I just ordered a new credit card that I only use for on-line purchases and nothing else. I don't even carry it with me. Better still, I applied for an Amazon.com card and got a $25.00 credit right off the bat as part of their new customer offer. As I pay my balance in full each month, the interest rate is inconsequential. Having a credit card designated on-line usage only significantly cuts down on your liabilty (from a tracking standpoint) and your trouble, should your number be compromised.

That's why I use a debit card instead and only put like $500 on there. That way when people hack into it and try to get more than what's on there. The debit card company will say "no way." Then they'll notify me and I'll cancel it.
