Who has seen Song of the South?

Post by karlsen »

I am one of those that desperatly are avaiting a "Song of the South" DVD but since this title never has been released on home video in America I was wondering on why everybody here has seen it. :)

Therefor I have two questions:

1. Have you seen Song of the south
2. If you have seen it, where did you see it (cinema, forign video, laserdisc or bootleg)?

I haven't, but I've been seeking ways to ever since I heard about it and I think I'm close to finding one. Won't reveal how here, but I think I'm close.

I Have SEen Song of The South. And I own a copy of it. i got my copy from a friend who had the laserdisc of it that has Japaneese Subtitles on the bottom of the screen and he just converted a copy for me onto VHS. I love this movie and wouldn't get rid of my copy for anything.

here are a few websites where you can get it

I've only seen bits of it from various sources. As a kid, I used to always watch "Sing-Along Songs" VHS tapes, and the whole Zippidy-Doo-Da sequence from the film was on one of those, and I think "A Laughing Place" or whatever its called was on there too.

Also, on the old Disneyland anthology shows they would show on Disney Channel late at night, they had B&W clips from the movie on a few times - one of those is on the Disneyland Treasures DVD.

I think that they may have shown it on the Wonderful World of Disney a looooong time ago and I may have seen it then. I also have a DVD of the movie that I purchased at a convention. Its a cool film, the animated segments with Uncle Remus's stories are the best part.

I can answere the question myself (I just noticed that I forgot that in my first post).

I am the lucky owner of a UK copy of the movie (VHS). Not this has been seen so many times that I am afraid that it will get ruined soon.

Therefore I have bought a bootleg DVD of it just in case. I have not looked at it yet, because I am hoping for the longest that it will come a real copy of it before my VHS copy are totaly destroid.

I have seen the film.
When I was a lad, they used to play it on our free-to-air TV semi-regularly and I must've taped it then because I remember watching it quite a few times.

I now have a VHS copy (taped from the telly, no ads, but it has a Disney logo in the corner) from a recent screening on the local Disney Channel. Having watched it recently, I don't know whether I can say it lives up to my youthful memories, but it certainly a fun little romp.

I would certainly support a DVD release, simply because I feel it is an important film to release, given that the actor won a special Academy Award for it, which was a first I believe.

At any rate, it would be nice to have...

I've seen it through *coughbootleggingcough* and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The animation scenes are definitely the highlight, though. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about in terms of controversy.

Honestly, I'm not sure.

I mean...I think I have, but it would have been a loooong time ago when I was a youngin. There are a few scenes that I'll see clips of that look very familiar, but I'm not sure if it's because I did see the film or just that I'm so used to seeing those clips.

I have seen the film a couple of times...
First, I watched it when it used to air on our "free-to-air" television quite a few times. I even taped it.
I also rent the VHS tape... It was released a (quite long) time ago on video here in Brazil.
Recently, I watched it thanks to the Internet... cough...

I have the PAL VHS tape, as well. Bought it in a store some years ago. At the time I had no idea the film is (going to be) so rare.
Honestly, I don't understand what in the film is so offensive they can't released it in the States.

I have seen it and own the Laserdisc, VHS and PAL format versions. It's a timeless classic in true Walt Times Style.

The movie isn't offensive at all. We just have to many lil groups here who love to sue and protest, so Disney is trying to avoid all of those hassels. I really can't blame them for wanting to avoid it.

yeah i have seen Song of the South. before i saw the whole movie i saw bits of the movie on Singalong Songs videos and on late night Vault Disney shows. i believe that the special about the tribute to the author of the Uncle Remus stories was also banned as well since the special never came on Vault Disney. i saw the movie on the PAL version and i have to say it is one of my favorite movies since it has the best Disney animation i have ever seen
