The Black Cauldron, Korean R3 anamorphic? YES it is!

Post by erlryd »

I found a review which implies that the Korean R3 DVD release of the Black Cauldron is anamorphic: http://www.thegline.com/dvd-of-the-week ... 3-2004.htm
I realise that BC has already been released with an anamorphic transfer in France but that is prohibitively expensive. Also since Korea Is an NTSC country people with out PAL capability will get a chance to se this in 16X9 enhanced widescreen.

So has anyone seen this DVD in Korean Stores? Perhaps someone on this forum knows of an on-line retailer which has it in stock?

Any info on this would be most appreciated. :)

I'm very intrigued. You may want to try YesAsia.com They sell Korean, japanese, chinese and western films and they are pretty damn expensive!!!

I don't know how reliable this review is, since it states that the American DVD is Pan&Scan when it is actually letterbox widescreen.

Well, I went ahead and bought this. 8)

Not only is it anamorphic, all menus are english, the cover is 95% english and it has a lovely slipcase. This is the best NTSC version availiable for this film, and i thoroughly recommend for all those who are NTSC locked, or do not wish to purchase the French anamorphic release because they preferr an english language cover.

Well, like toonaspie mentioned. yesasia.com is a good and reliable place for R3 DVDs.

Also koreandvds.com is worth checking out.

I bought my copy from dvdfromkorea.com. They had it in stock and shipped the DVD the day after i ordered.

I will continue using them for Korean DVD releases. 8)

Does anyone know if the Chinese release of Black Cauldron is the same as this Korean dvd and therefore also anamorphic? Since my dad is going to China, I could ask him to check out some stores.

oh does someone know where I can find what the cover looks like?

Click on the photos for larger images. The first image is the U.S. DVD, the second is the Korean DVD.

Thanks for the screens! Is it me or is the quality much better in the Korean release?

thanks so much! why's the region 1 dvd look so dirty? did they remaster the movie for the latter release or was it only color enhancement? im still waiting if the black cauldron might be released in malaysia.

It seems like it has been restored in some way, because all of the stray dirt in the frames is completely gone. And of course the anamorphic print will show more detail. It looks like the anamorphic print is losing a tiny bit off the top and bottom, but otherwise a much better master.

is this the anamorphic one?
That's the Japanese version. I have that one too, but it's not anamorphic.

For some reason, yesasia does not carry the Korean version. I ordered mine here:<p><a href="http://www.dvdfromkorea.com">http://www.dvdfromkorea.com</a></p>
