No reports of the Gift Set in the UK.

However, given Disney UK's lack of publicity I think that while a gift set is unlikely, it is not impossible.

After all, the Treasure Planet Gift Set (DVD, PC Game and Original Treasure Island Novel) was not publicised by Disney at all. The fact that the 2 disc Snow White set came with a book was not publicised by Disney at all. The various Gift Sets they do for DVDs and Videos where they include a small "beany" toy are not publicised at all. Are you beginning to see the pattern? Disney UK have rubbish PR.

However, based on past Disney sets, I doubt anything as big as the US Gift set will be offered. Disney France is also releasing a set with a CD of the film's Soundtrack for example. I would think IF the UK is going to do anything special, it is more likely to be a CD or "Beany" toy.

So, this long winded reply is basically saying: Order from the US.

I've seen that the 2 disk DVD set will be released, but not the box set as of yet. I really would like to get the box set, but I haven't found anywhere in the UK that's selling it yet.

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks :)
Hi Shoka. I haven't heard anything about the Collector's Gift Box set being released outside of the US. :(

Amazon.co.uk is now taking preorders for the Lion King Special Edition soundtrack With or with out a Lenticular Sleeve. It will be out on October 27, four days before the video's release date.

LION KING BBFC SAMPLER

Just passed by the BBFC. I guess this is likely to be a giveaway on a DVD magazine in the UK - similar promotions were done for Monsters, Inc., Beauty and the Beast and Snow White.

00:08:55:08 | LION KING LOOP
00:00:25:14 | THX LOGO
00:00:18:00 | DTS LOGO
00:01:56:21 | LION KING TRAILER
00:01:35:15 | LION KING 3 TRAILER
00:03:06:12 | THE MAKING OF MORNING REPORT
00:04:56:20 | DVD SOUND DESIGN FEATURETTE
00:03:58:19 | CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT - MUSIC VIDEO
00:01:51:21 | VIRTUAL SAFARI
00:00:32:01 | DISNEYWORLD TRAILER
00:01:31:00 | THE KINGDOM
00:01:40:17 | I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING
00:01:41:08 | THE STAMPEDE
00:01:42:11 | NEW FRIENDS
00:00:55:01 | SIMBA RETURNS

Note: DTS logo is certified - so the UK release will have a DTS track (some sites had begun to pooh-pooh this, as DTS was not mentioned on the most recent press release)

Sadly, the Making of the Morning report seems to be only 3 minutes long - another in-depth supplement worthy of a Platinum DVD

Lion King - French Edition

Post by Joe Carioca »

DVD Rama just compiled the list of the extras from the French release. There are some new menus too!

Image

Premier DVD :

Label THX
Transfert anamorphique 16/9 compatible 4/3 format 1.66
Jeux :
- Psycho-Test
- Les larves de Timon
- Les sensations sonores de Pumbaa
Trois scènes coupées :
- "Bug Football"
- "Hakuna Matata" – version 1
- "Can you feel the love tonight" – Version 1

Galeries
Versions multi langues
Et plus encore…

Yeah, I think I took one of those once...

I like those menus. It is probably on the US release, but what is that thing that lets you select various continents? If I read the press-release I'd probably find out these things....

It appears the DTS mix on the UK DVD will be the EHT Mix only.

So does that mean France will be the only country to have DTS or are they really getting EHT too?

Sorry. We're getting the DTS track, but it will be a DTS mix of the EHT mix only, not the original.

Ah, well, I don't understand why we're not getting that. You're just getting the DD 5.1 of the theatrical, and then DTS of EHT, right? That makes more sense than having two DD 5.1 tracks, I think.

I don't know. I would however expect us to get a 5.1 original, 5.1 EHT and DTS EHT as it looks like Disney are promoting the EHT mix in the UK quite strongly now. It's likely the UK release will not have any other languages on it, which will free up some space.

This information is from a post on another forum, so I'm sorry if it's vague. Given our history of annoucements from Disney UK, we won't know the full specs until the set is released.

Here's the final audio specs:

US
Original mix: Dolby Digital 5.1
Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix: Dolby Digital 5.1

UK
Original mix: Dolby Digital 5.1
Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix: DTS 5.1

I would speculate that the French release will be:

Original mix English: Dolby Digital 5.1
Original mix French: Dolby Digital 5.1
Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix <strike>French</strike>: DTS 5.1

Stop Press

Based on the Swedish Review (see other thread) the DEHT Mix in DTS will be in English on all European releases.

So let's see what was cleared that WASN'T on the final DVD...

00:01:54:01 | MUSIC VIDEO - LOVE WILL FIND A WAY
00:01:19:22 | THE LION KING II - SIMBA'S PRIDE

00:00:10:13 | INTRO TO MUSIC VIDEO - HAKUNA MATATA (RHYTHM OF THE PRIDELANDS
00:00:18:10 | INTRO TO MUSIC VIDEO - LOVE WILL FIND A WAY
00:00:34:22 | INTRO TO MUSIC VIDEO - THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

00:03:58:13 | STORYBOARD TO FILM COMPARISON - CIRCLE OF LIFE (SPLIT SCREEN)
00:04:10:05 | STORYBOARD PITCH - THE REFLECTING POOL

00:03:06:12 | BUILD REEL #4

Some of the other stuff appears to have been trimmed, too. There certainly doesn't feel like 3 hours of extras on Disc 2 - I think it's closer to 2. In any event, there's more than enough space to include trailers & TV ads and the Making-Of.

Interesting that some stuff is missing. I understand some of the stuff passed for the Alien Quadrilogy at the BBFC won't find it's way onto the discs either. Sort of odd that they should classifiy it, being as the distributor has to pay the BBFC for each minute of footage submitted.

I guess the Lion King II trailer could be included on the European releases, as many countries (including the UK from rumours) are getting this released in March along with the Lion King 3 (and a Lion King Trilogy Boxset - I wonder if this will be 6 discs?)

Just to say that the UK DID get the storyboard to film comparison for circle of life but yes we didn't get the other stuff. I'm not disapointed about the music video intros but I'm a bit annoyed that were missing the storyboard pitch and build reel #4. What are they anyway?

Region 1 also got the "Circle of Life" storyboard, as did all the other regions, I guess.
