Well, that's good to hear, if it's true, but that doesn't mean that they are going to stop trying to do sequels in 3D, anyway, I think this whole 3D thing just sucks, and I hate the way Disney saeems to be going down the toilet bowl... I hope they are able to turn things around eventually, but if not, atleast I will have my treasure sets, and all the animateed movies I have grown up with and loved....
Defy Gravity
Reports are that Chicken Little will be CGI, but look hand drawn - similar to the Giant in The Iron Giant did. (I suppose this will be a more advanced form of Cel-Shading seen in many modern computer games). It's quite easy to do with angular characters - see the Iron Giant and B.E.N. in Treasure Planet for examples, but much, much harder to do for rounded organic characters.
Why would they want to do this? Especially when CGI movies are supposed to be hot right now. Why try to make them look handdrawn?
Bacause as stated, once a model is built in a computer, it can be reused with little effort - and so can animations like walk cycles etc.
Disney want to make a virtual cast of characters, a virtual lot of sets and a virtual store of props. That way they can quickly make sequels, television series the lot. All the hard work and cost is done in the film's production and the sequels and television series will require significantly less time and effort. This is why Jimmy Newtron had a movie made before the television series - the bulk of the costs in setting up the characters and locations for the television series were absorbed into the motion picture budget.
I'm sad if this is what Disney is planning. 2D handrawn art deserves to live on at Disney. But I take comfort in the knowledge that Dumbo II and Bambi II have been rethought. It appears, contary to some people's expectations Disney isn't putting out any old crap as part of their sequels. Also I think Disney is determined to get the 3D-2D look as close as possible to the original.
I cry for the jobs and skills lost, but I will not comment on the suitability of the process until Disney are happy with it and release their results to the public. But it will have to be very, very good to convince myself and a lot of other people it is the way to go.

I've been contemplating on weather or not to pick up Jungle Book 2. Part of me wants it because I like the first movie so much (i still haven't seen part 2 yet). I just dont' want to pay 19.99 for it at the stores. I hope it will go down in price, otherwise I won't get it. It's not worth it if everyone is saying that it's not all that great. (minus a few people).

Take my advice poco... this movie isn't worth 20 bucks. its not even worth 5 bucks. and if someone offered it to me for free id contemplate whether to take it or not.... get my drift?I've been contemplating on weather or not to pick up Jungle Book 2. I wouldn't get it for 19.99 either. I'd wait until it's 14.44 at Wal-Mart, and it's bound to be there soon. If 20,000 Leagues, Love Bug, orginal Vault Disney and Rescuers are only 14.44 the others should drop soon.poco wrote:I've been contemplating on weather or not to pick up Jungle Book 2. Oh... little off topic, but has anyone seen Great Mouse Detective or Tuck Everlasting around, especially cheap?

Mulan 2 actually sounds good. Mulan and Shang are preparing for their wedding, then the Mongolians (spelling?) attack, and of course, Mushu starts meddling...
As long as it doesn't rehash the first, I'm fine.
Then Mulan 3 is supposed to involve Mulan and Shang's daughter. At least we know Disney won't make her the reversal of her mother-I can see it now-femenists groups all over the world get mad because Disney does a movie about a girl who wants to follow the Chinese demands for women.

*bangs head on desk, repeatedly, followed by self-punching and more head banging against the wall*
I don't know what to say. It hurts my mind to even think about it. I don't even want to know what will happen if Mulan II/III gets released in China, but I fear all hell will break loose.
Say all you want, I'm pretty much biased against Mulan II/III.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, by far. Every horrible cliche you expect to find in a DTV movie was there, and the animation is the worst I've ever seen on a Disney "film". The characters look like a mix between anime and fan art, and though both of those have good things to them, the mix is horrible. Not to mention all of the songs are wince-worthy and the climax was the ultimate in anti-climactical.
