Something has to fill out the set

Post by EarthX »

They must have something on there to get to 345 minutes!

http://disneyvideos.disney.go.com/movie ... 74803.html

something to ponder:
17 remaining theatrical shorts thru Runaway Brain (about 7 minutes each)
+ Beanstalk + Christmas Carol + Prince & Pauper (about 1/2 hour each)
+ Fantasia bit (about 15 minutes)
= the "21 shorts" on the original press release, although it does only fill around 224 minutes.

Last I heard, both Sorcerer's Apprentice and Mickey and the Beanstalk will be on the MM in LC 2 Treasure.

As for the source of info, I speak to someone on another board who has a source at BVHV, so all the info I have is filtered through him. Anyway, last thing I heard was True Life Adventures would be a Treasure next year!

According to the official Disney list of Mickey Mouse Shorts in the book "Mickey Mouse, the Evolution, the Legend, the Phenomenon" (published by Disney Editions) there is already 19 Mickey Mouse shorts outstanding - so no need for the film segments to 'bump up the numbers' Being as this is a Disney book, we can only assume that this is Disney's official list of Mickey Mouse shorts.

1. Society Dog Show
2. The Pointer
3. Tugboat Mickey
4. Pluto's Dream House
5. Mr Mouse Takes A Trip
6. The Little Whirlwind
7. The Nifty Nineties
8. Orphan's Benefit (remake)
9. Mickey's Birthday Party
10. Symphony Hour
11. Mickey's Delayed Date
12. Mickey Down Under
13. Mickey and the Seal
14. Plutopia [*]
15. R'Coon Dawg
16. Pluto's Party [*]
17. Pluto's Christmas Tree
18. The Simple Things
19. Mickey's Christmas Carol
20. The Prince and the Pauper
21. Runaway Brain

[*] I understand most people consider these as Pluto Cartoons, which is why they are left of most lists for the second Colour Mickey set on the Internet. However Disney appears to consider these as Mickey cartoons. Other Pluto cartoons which star Mickey (such as Pueblo Pluto and Squatter's Rights) are not included on their list.

So I personally think the above listed cartoons will be the ones included in the set.

The extended runtime will include the supplements as well. I speculate that being as this is (chronologically) the last Mickey Mouse set - and dealing with more recent material, the supplements will be more extensive than any other Treasures set to date. I still think the film segments will only be discussed (with a few clips shown) rather then included complete in the set.

And hey, that Mickey Mouse Disco Easter Egg (should it be included) runs for 1/2 plus doesn't it? :)

Edited to change the order of two of the shorts on the list.

OK Thanks Chernabog, I just read a list of songs and some notes that the short contained clips from earlier Mickey Mouse cartoons set to the music.

Ooh...I dunno...
That could go either way...
Death to Disco, anyone?

It would be a fair bet that it will be hidden on there, although you never can tell.

And I think that is quite possibly the most insightful comment I have ever made

Well, I thought it was Mickey's 21 shorts through "The Simple Things" plus his feauture film credits like: Sorcerer's Apprentice, that other one, I can't think of the title  , The Prince and the Pauper, and possibly Mickey's Christmas Carol, which is actually more of a Scrooge movie...

Even with the supplements and stuff, the Mickey set is like an hour or more longer than the Donald set, and the Donald set has 14 additional cartoons, so I would hope, that the one's just mentioned are included, otherwise it is not Mickey's entire color carreer through 1995...

Another "official Disney list"

One could argue that Fantasia and Beanstalk make sore sense since they were released during Disney's golden age whereas Carol and Pauper (and Runaway Brain) were not.

Here's Disney's online list of MM's appearnces:
http://disney.go.com/vault/archives/cha ... raphy.html

Again, EVERYTHING is probably on there since they are filling up nearly 6 hours.

Notice how the released cover photo does not list the number of shorts like all the other sets:

We talking about the shorts here - this is what will be included on the discs. Not absolute everything in Mickey´s career - nooone have mention that it should be so. And all the shorts are there alright!

Alright, as I understand it, everything that has the Mickey Mouse title card in front of it (Mickey's head surrounded by sunbeams) is considered a Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Now, using this standard and Leonard Maltin's book The Disney Films, here is the lineup, as best I can guess:

Society Dog Show
The Pointer
Tugboat Mickey
Mr. Mouse Takes A Trip
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
The Little Whirlwind
Nifty Ninties
Orphans' Benefit
Mickey's Birthday Party
Symphony Hour
Mickey's Delayed Date
Mickey and the Beanstalk
Mickey Down Under
Mickey and the Seal
R'Coon Dawg
Pluto's Christmas Tree
The Simple Things
Mickey Mouse Disco (compilation cartoon)
Once upon a Mouse (compilation cartoon)
Mickey's Christmas Carol
The Prince and the Pauper
Runaway Brain

The only real question marks are the two compilation cartoons. Given the length of the disc (the longest of all four Treasures!), everything else should be there. And don't forget, there probably will be other extras and eggs hidden in the disk!

Thoughts?

Yes, you're missing Plutopia and Pluto's Party.

I don't think the movie apperances will be on, because as I've said before How to Ride a Horse is not on the Goofy set - which is titled 'Complete Goofy'. (The short was originally presented in The Reluctant Dragon Feature)

Secondly the actual tin says 1939-Today, which makes me think that Mickey vehicles like Mouseworks and House of Mouse (and the compliation toons, and the feature film appearences) will be discussed in the supplements. But supplements only.

Well, I would like to continue the debate, but all said here, really is speculation, and the truth is , that we will not know what is actually on it, until more info is released or until we have the actual set in our hands... Though I would assume that since this is Mickey's 75th Birthday/Anniversary, that they will try to make this set something special so we will see. :)

As I stated before in some other thread, I thnik they should have released bother LC2 and BW2 this year and then they could have had a box set of all Mickey cartoons (MMILC 1&2 , MMIBW 1&2)... that would have been cool, and they could have included a bonus disc of a completer history of Mickey Mouse...

Next year would be the perfect time to release a fully loaded set of Donald stuff, as is will be his 70th B-Day/Ann. but we will see...

I would not look to the Goofy tin for what to expect, I think they will do a much better job for Mickey and even Donald, maybe. :)

Yes, you're missing Plutopia and Pluto's Party.
Both are considered Pluto cartoons due to the Pluto title card in front.

I'd agree with that except Disney's blurb for the MM in LC 2 on the Disney DVD website have said both will be on the Treasure. Think they're trying to be as inclusive as possible.

And again, MM in BW 2 SHOULD be out next year.

Not according to the Disney Editions and the Disney website on their Mickey Mouse Filmography. My guess is Disney will go with their official list. I cannot comment on the title cards, but the very knowledgable Chernabog says that they are Mickey title cards.

Disney Site wrote:The celebration of Mickey's color capers continues in this second volume of shorts -- from "Society Dog Show" in 1939 to his last short, "The Simple Things," in 1953 -- and feature film appearances, giving you a decidedly colorful history of the most famous mouse in the world. This outstanding review of Mickey's color career spotlights some very special features, including his groundbreaking performance in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."
It's ambigous, but it doesn't actually state the feature film appearances are included. My guess is that the feature film apprences will not be included based on the initial listing of 21 shorts. But his feature film segments are bound to be included in any documentaries or other supplements on the discs.

Well, we'll find out in November. Maltin could be in error which would make me wrong. We'll just have to see!

Again, we'll just have to see, but you are right, Disney does have wiggle room on this. I personally think both WILL be included, plus Mickey's Christmas Carol and Prince and Pauper, simply to be all inclusive.

Looking at their text again, they quite plainly state that his last short was The Simple Things in 1953. Which is quite clearly wrong. The Runaway Brain was a short in 1995.

So I would guess that Disney [wrongly] class Mickey's Christmas Carol, The Prince and The Pauper (and one would suppose The Runaway Brain) as 'Features'.

Also no matter how you add up the contents, the runtime posted doesn't make any sense. It's insane to think that they would be approx 3 hours of additional material on the set. So I guess it's a typo.

Well, we honestly are just going to have to wait and see, however I am fairly confident that all of what I listed will be on the discs and will be viewable in their entirity on the discs. Now the final list should be in November, which will end the debate.

Having gone back and forth on this now, this is going to be my last word until the final word of the content. Let's just say we agree to disagree.
