About owners of older versions getting "stuck" with something inferior to the new releases:

They are probably "always" going to be able to improve picture quality, but it seems sometimes they also change the appearance of the picture (colour, contrasts, brightness...), so a new version may in some cases turn out to be less "right" than the older one.

Tinkering with the extras aren't always doing much good, either. I got around to watching the Lion King DVD for the first time a few weeks ago. The whole menu setup makes me prefer the extras of the laserdisc box set.
Indeed I think there's always room for improvement: to add more stuff that never made it in the first DVD I mean. I'm praying that the rerelease of The Lion King DVD in 2010 (I think) will more than make up for that poor excuse of a Plantinum Edition and actually contain the Original Theatrical Version of the film.

Whether or not I buy the new editions will just depend on how much money I have at the time, and how much I want the movie. :D

To be really honest, I buy DVDs because I love the movies. I really don't spend much time sifting through extras, although I do like the reassurance that if I'm curious about a particular title, I can just pop in the DVD for some nice information.

I'll definately by Aladdin! That's my favorite Disney classic, and I'll probably re-buy the rest of the big 90's musicals, plus Bambi. Everything else, I'll have to sit out.

DVDs headed for the vault?

Post by Disney Lover »

Do we know yet which dvds are going back into the vault next? I want to be sure to get those ones next so I don't miss out. Besides I've been wondering how soon we find out which ones get put back next.

p.s. Sorry if this was posted before I don't remember ever seeing such a topic but I could have easily missed one.

So far, the Lion King movies are "in the vault" (meaning Disney will no longer release copies but stores may carry the titles)

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=8036
* that's info on the GOLD COLLECTION DVDs being removed from certain stores.

But as of the moment...no DVDs are headed to the vault. :)
Because we'd all panic and see it posted on the front page. ;)

Yeah this is most perplexing in a way... Maybe a good way. Because, didn't they remove the Sleeping Beauty 2-disc DVDs in less than 4 months after it was released? It came out in October 2003 and went back into the vault in January 2004, right?

Actually Sleeping Beauty was released in September 2003 and went to the Vault in January 2004

I think he/she's asking what will be going into the vaults next, to which the answer is simply, we don't know. Like was said earlier, we'd all be panicking right about now if we knew

So Sleeping Beauty was put into the vault after only being out for 4 months?

Yes Jayden that's exactly what I was asking and thank you for answering. And I'm a 'she' by the way :)

And Sleeping Beauty was only out 4 months? Wow. No wonder I wasn't able to get it. It wasn't out long enough. I wonder why it was only out for such a short time.

At the time it came out it was Disney's policy to keep them on the shelves for such a short period (other examples include Beauty And The Beast: Platinum Edition and Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition). Luckily, this policy has since changed and the DVDs are out for at least a year before heading back to the vault. I would suggest, however, that you look into getting a few that have been out for a while (If you want them, that is) just to be on the safe side. I would say the best candidates for the next Vault run will be Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition, A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition (If they decide to start putting away Pixar films as well), Monster's, Inc, and Aladdin: Platinum Edition.

It has been theorized that the next vault run won't be until January 2006, but no one can say for sure

Hi

Um, it was also shocking that even though Beauty And The Beast was put in the vault a year after Snow White, it is harder to find, and more expensive.

I don't think Sleeping Beauty put in Vault that early (2004). I just bought it last Xmas. And the store clark said it would been placed in Vault in Jan 2005. Anyways, if you search harder, you might find it at your local Walmart now.

I'm glad I got my (new) copy a week ago! :D It's still available... All you gotta do is find your way through the web and visit Amazon.

I'm quite shocked B&tB is hardly available, even though it was out only a bit more than two years ago!

It was put back into the vault in 2004 alright. I hate to say it, but the clerk is wrong. Places like Wal-Mart or Target probably won't have it anymore. Your best bet if you want to get one is to look in a store that typically has a little higher prices (i.e. Chapters, HMV, or Music World). Because of their prices, they may not have sold off all of their copies yet.

It's going to be hard to find a copy (trust me!) but you may get lucky anyways.

Disneyteasurestin, I think you just got really lucky finding a copy at your Walmart, because it has been OOP for over a year now
