I know, for those of us who do, it's like- who doesn't? And there is so much to like about horror movies, and so many good ones. Like Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('74), Carrie ('76), Suspiria, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead )'78(, Phantasm, The Amityville Horror, Alien, The Fog, The Evil Dead, An American Werewolf in London, Creepshow, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Gremlins, Re-Animator, The Fly ('86), Hellraiser, Child's Play, Arachnophobia, Misery, Silence of the Lambs, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Candyman, Peter Jackson's Dead Alive / Braindead, Scream, Bride of Chucky, Sleepy Hollow, Ginger Snaps, 28 Days Later.

And of course the classic monster movies, creature features, cult, and b&w classics like Nosferatu, Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, The Haunting, The Blob, The Fly, White Zombie, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Bride of Frankenstein, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Carnival of Souls, House on Haunted Hill, Village of the Damned, Spider Baby, 13 Ghosts, War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still, It! My three favorite horror movies are: Night of the living dead, White Zombie, and Dracula 1931.

I love horror flicks.. But I rate my differently.. I rate them on the scare factor.. The recent so called horror movies haven't been scary whatsoever!

The Exorcist still remains my favorite.. When I saw it I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me.. It still holds a special place for me. Always looking for a new good horror movie..

The ring was good.. 13th ghost was good, but a little too much comediac side notes.

Well I like them

tho i tend to gravitate more towards the "classic" ones than to the more modern fare.
On the other hand I'm sure Evil Genie Jafar after he takes off his Jason mask after going through some dvd mail order companies' offices and cleans his blade will come around here to say he prefers the newer "classics"

I love all sorts of horror, thriller and everything in between typed movies. I like the very good ones like The Exorcist to the really bad series that never seem to end. I like the psychological ones a lot but I also like the ones with just gore to the supernatural ones.
There are some I don't like but most I like somewhat even if they are so horrible.

I'm bever horrified or really scared at any but zombie movies usually are the most effective creepy movies since a lot of them tackle the what-ifs if a plague were to spread like 28 Days Later... or something real like SARS.
Some of my favourites are Night of the Living Dead (old and new(er)), Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later and of course Shaun of the Dead which was great for laughs but it also had some scenes that are pretty serious. There are other that I like too but those are just a few.

I'm a huge vampire fan and I love vampire movies but none besides a couple of animated ones like Blood the Last Vampire and the Vampire Hunter D movies really are amazing. Oh Interview with a Vampire is and Queen of the Damned is enjoyable... oh okay Blade too but for the msot part they disappoint me in some way.

Werewolves: Ginger Snaps is my favourite followed by An American Werewolf in London.

Uh hmmm well I can go on. Lazario named a bunch of them and I've seen almost every single one. I have maybe not seen five at the most.

It's one of my favourites too although I know some people who don't find it scary at all. I actually think the creepiest part is the scene with the needle but I enjoy this film a lot! However someone I know makes jokes like, "Is this supposed to be a comedy?" I don't mind people watching it and not being scared but laughing just ruins it!

Have you seen Exorcist III? It's my second favourite and some people prefer it over the original. It's more psychological although the ending is a bit off. It's a worthy follow-up after the disappointing Exorcist II: The Heretic. It's also better than the prequel (the one released whidely atleast).

Like I said I could go on forever and it could get quite dull so I'll let other people talk and I reply. I believe that is how these message boards work.

I don't only like new horror classics Deathie.

I think of them this way: the old horror movies were quite scary and still are; THE EXORCIST is the best one. Then the ones from 80's and 90's were good in a way they were full of gore but kept the horror factor. And now, all the new ones are just gore... and most of them quite bad/lame.

But I must say I like animation the same level I do horror. Deathie could confirm that by the looks of my bedroom... Disney posters everywhere and the walls covered with bloody hands.

I currently have: AVP, Anatomy, The Blair Witch Project 1 and 2, Cabin Fever, The Changeling, Dawn of the Dead original and the 2004 version, Deep Blue Sea, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Bram Stocker's Dracula, Final Destination 1 and 2, Freddy vs Jason, From Hell, Hannibal, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Hollow Man, Jason goes to Hell, The Nightmare on Elm St. Collection, The Omen Collection, Poltergeist, Resident Evil 1 and 2, Stigmata, Th13en Ghosts, Underworld, Wishmaster 1 and 2

.....so yeah, I like them.

I like very few horror movies as you can tell by looking at my dvd collection. I like some of the VIncent Price horror stuff, the dude was terrific. But my all time favorite movie of his was a 60's Teen Comedy, which was Dr. GOldfoot And The Bikini Machine, which I have the dvd of. That movie is really terrific, it co-stars Dwayne Hickman, and Frankie Avalon, and Annette Funicello makes a guest apperance as a beheaded girl.

I'm a huge fan of the first 8 Friday the 13th flicks (I could watch all 8 of those movies in one day and still beg for more- REWIND!!!). But I refuse to buy the DVD boxset because it's a cheapskate situation for producer Paramount. They did not put as much effort into it as they did the Star Trek special-collector's editions. Rather they continue to treat these films as though they are at best guilty pleasure cult flicks that aren't worth top-quality digital transfer video and audio remastering, when I'll bet they sold enough of those things to double the amount of money they sunk into the boxset.

I also really love Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the Dario Argento Italian horror-thrillers (especially Phenomena), Scream, Phantasm, and The Fog. I own almost about a hundred horror DVDs to date, and I'm looking to add about 25-30 more before I can say I'm fully satisfied.

There have been stacks of threads on this, but I am a big horror movie fan.

Lazario has listed some of the best, but some of my favourites include:

Halloween (naturally, given my name); Evil Dead trilogy (all hail Raimi/Campbell); Dawn of the Dead (both versions actually, for completely different reasons); and The Shining (any film where the decor is one of the scariest things is fine by me). And while they aren't as "scary" anymore, the old Universal horror films still have more mood than anything put out today. Primarily, I like the horror films of the late 1960s to the late 1970s, and 80s trash. There is an excellent doco on this period called American Nightmare which should be readily available on DVD. Wicker Man is another excellent entry from this period, although how far you could call it "horror" depends on your definition. An excellent film, regardless.

Having said that, I have enjoyed a number of recent releases - 28 Days Later, Ginger Snaps and the surprisingly good sequels, Freddy vs Jason (kind of a fanboy thing),

I have a stack of horror films on DVD and video including the obvious stuff (Romero trilogy, Nightmare on Elm Street series, some Friday stuff, Re-Animator and Bride of...too many to list here anyways).

Leaning towards zombie films lately, with the Return of the Living Dead pictures and Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 (aka Zombie).

There are only a handful of films that have truly "creeped me out". Polanski's The Tenant was one, and Rosemary's Baby to a lesser extent. Don't Look Now was another one, and at least one scene in Texas Chain Saw Massacre always gets me (sliding door, you kow the one).

The cheesier the better I say!

One of my favourite pieces of cheese is a film called Silent Night, Deadly Night (which is basically a guy in a Santa suit yelling "Puuunnnish!!"

Anything by Ed Wood is also pure gold ("Pull ze stringssss"), and there is another little masterpiece called Eegah - The Name Written in Blood (with Richard "Jaws" Kiel as a caveman).

However, in some cases (e.g. Leprechaun) you have to watch them FOR their cheese value, as there is nothing remotely scary about them.

Jason, Freddy, Micheal. Cheesy 80's horror in all it's glory!

I grew up loving these movies, and I still love watching them.

Although, my favs are: The Shining

I am a really big Friday the 13th fan!

At least up until (Jason Lives). Which is one of my favs out of the series!

I also forgot to say I'm a Children of the Corn series devotee. Especially the 6 sequels. They're not great movies perse, but they have generally high production values. Some great FX, others decent casting, others style & camerawork, and all a really good sound design.

I think that movie is very scary, and I usually tear a new piehole into whoever tells me it's not scary... So just agree with me and everything will be fine. I'm kidding of course, but that movie really is scary. Just watch that scene at the police station- "Don't worry Dave, all we wanna do is kill you." That scene is horror tension at it's best. I still get a chill watching that. Yes, there is a lot of humor to it, but that's what keeps people off guard. Those klowns are absolutely terrifying.

Loomis, you're obviously a guy of fine tastes. You're cool beans. To the people who really don't like horror films, we will not be getting along. You have issues, take it from John Massari- the music composer for the film Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Just about any zombie movie. I love zombie movies, no matter how cheesy it may be (and due to the genre most are pretty damn cheesy).

The Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil--I love them all. Yeh, I guess I've a soft spot for those brain/flesh-eating fiends.
