That's why I can't stand the majority of Peter Pan.
I watched Fox and the Hound early this morning. This now beats out The Lion King as my absolute
least favorite Disney animated feature. It was so incredibly offensive, I almost vomited. And no, I'm not joking. Or was it that, it was so incredibly boring? The part I nearly vomited at, well the first, was that song "Lack of Education". It was like listening to screeching cats serenade a marathon of Lateesha/Luwanneda/Kahmodeesha's scratching their ultra-long press-on nine-inch-nails (that would make Freddy Krueger's hair stand on end) on a chalkboard- we're talking I actually thought my ears were bleeding at one point. What can I say-I'm very sensitive to sound.
Apart from that, I have a huge problem with this film condoning hunting for sport, and making protagonists out of soulless murderers (until the ending of course when all is set right and they are made into protagonists again after their short but convincing stint as villains). I also have a big problem with famous actors like Mickey Rooney and Kurt Russell being the voices of the grown fox and hound, and later Sandy Duncan as Vixie (which is not even a good name). For one, I absolutely was unable to get the actual picture of each actor out of my head while they spoke. For another, they spoke far too loudly, finished sentences too quickly. This movie recycles a bit of animation from Sword in the Stone, of squirrel-Wart jumping trees. Also it reuses a line from the animated-101 Dalmatians that bugged me- if you watch the two back-to-back you will
not miss it. Also, I can't help but be bothered by the fact that this is so the wrong time for Disney to change their formula this way- by not making clear villains and heroes. It's too much like Bambi, and there is only one Bambi. It's the same growing up lesson, only with two main characters, which means neither is compelling enough to warrant the split.
