Pixar seems to have a habit of making movies about a character getting lost then other characters go and find them but they at least always look good and have pretty good pacing. The first post says, "Watch The Incredibles and The Lion King instead." Who says you can't like all three?

Personally, I think A Goofy Movie does a similar story better. I find Max and Goofy in that movie much more relateable than Marlin or Nemo.

I do think Nemo is the worst Pixar film. Pixar's greatest hits!

If only AGM didn't have that awful dated music at the end. Even when the film was released, it must have been already dated, as I2I has such an 80's "vibe".
I actually agree with you! Plus A Goofy Movie was funnier!

Plain and simple...it's heart.

It might even mean more to you if you have children..Lord knows they'll watch it endlessly.

Finding Nemo is one of the most overrated, underacheiving (entertainingly, not fianacially of course) movies to come out in recent years (only Shrek and Shrek 2 are worse). I sat through the film thinking to myself 'where's the humour that graced through Monster's Inc?'

I honestly did not laugh at all throughout Finding Nemo. It was only popular cause the characters were 'cute', people like 'cute' characters no matter how bland they really are (like Dory), so therefore of course the film will make big bucks (Shrek was exactly like that).

If a film contains only inoffensive cute characters, of course it will be a success. If you actually look at the Finding Nemo story and plot you'll find it's bland with a capital B.

It's not a bad film (I use that term for crap like Magnolia and the modern day Romeo and Juliet), however it's just not as great as everyone makes it out to be.

I sort of agree. On one side, I love Goofy Movie, some scenes are wonderfully animated and "on the Open Road" is a good song. But on the other hand, it has lots of truly awful scenes. As for the father son relationship, well Goofy and Max's was definitely more developed since they were together throughout the entire film. I still liked Nemo more, but Goofy Movie is definitely good and indeed very similair. Got it on dvd recently, unfortunately the transfer was kind of crappy.

Well, if you want to analyse it, FN is about a father worried about loosing his son due to external intervention, while AGM is about a father worried about loosing his son due to nothing more than his son growing up.

The fact that Goofy and Max are together doesn't make them more relatable. It's the fact that both have real worries that other people have. Max wants to grow and get independence (while at the same time, is worried about turning into his father) while Goofy just wants to spend more time with his son now that they are growing apart.

I think AGM has an a better idea, script and more drama (in the true sense of the word "Drama"), than FN. However, the bigfoot sequence and the concert at the end still make me cringe (but I do like the song I2I).

wow, the big foot scene was actually my favourite part of the movie, especially the way they got locked in the car and were forced to deal with the problem. I also love pete (or was that not his character's name in the movie?) and his redicolous camper wich completely crashes goofy's tent

okay, appears I'm getting off topic. Back to nemo. Not saying it's bad, its not my favourite Pixar film either. I just think the story has a huge appeal, since the starter of the thread asked what was so great about it. Well, that really is different for everyone, but its popularity should be an indication. Just ask anyone what they like about it. My favourite Pixar film is Bug's Life, the underdog :) I do see why you find the plot for Goofy Movie more ambitious. I wish the result was better though. Where Nemo's only flaw, like you said was that it was basicly nothing more than "Pixar's Greatest Hits". The formula of the buddy flick of two characters on an adventure.

I liked the movie, I have it listed as my least favorite Pixar film.. Not for storyline tho.. I didn't like Ellen DeGenres as the voice of Dora.. She has a voice that almost makes me cringe like a fingernail across the chalkboard. I think she ruined the movie for me.. Other than that.. It was a cute simple movie.. straight forward plot and expectations.. I though the animation was outstanding.. The feel of the ocean I liked alot...

Shame the fisherman didn't catch Dora and the movie ended and we all lived happily ever after!

Seriously.. they could have found a better voice for Dora...

I think your analysis is a little off on this one, as you are stating your own personal thoughts on the movie. People didn't like it just because it was "cute", they liked it because it had something there that many movies don't have. What it is, I can't say. You may have found it bland, but others (like myself) did not. I personally kind of funny myself, not on the same level as Monsters, Inc but still quite hillarious and better than some other so called comedies out there

Some people expect too much humour when it's more than that. I know people like this who want their animation to be just for laughs and that is why they won't touch Miyazaki's work.

Well these are just my thoughts it seemes to me that the only reason Finding Nemos casue off so overrated to some in here is becasue of this very conversation. First of all its obvious that not everyone is going to like the same things ever or agree on them. Whats makes Finding Nemo so great is simple (Love) the love between a father and son and yes the story has been done several times in many ways, but like I said before its all a matter of opinion to some Finding Nemo will be more appealing to others a Goofy Movies. Really to me it dosnet matter as long as you grasp that concept that is put out there.

And honestley to be fair I dont think its right to judge a movie's plot on its animation. I mean when you read a book there are no images and if its bad who do you blame? Okay this may not make any sensce but it did in my head) So I wont be offended if you cant follow with what I am saying. :)

In Conclusion though I did like Finding Nemo; I thought the caharacters were well developed and the idea of doing something common with fish was amusing ( u know just like the Lion King, and Bambi). I loved the colors that were used.A good movie still one of my top favorite pixar movies :) .

No it isn't! Lion King(even Brother Bear) had more powerful storylines. For one you really get to see how great Mufassa was and how nice he was so you actually feel pain when he dies. You also feel sorry for Simba because he lost his best friend and you can see in the movie his father was his best friend. Similar thing goes for Sika and Kenia for Brother Bear. In Finding Nemo Coarl dies so fast(less than 5 minutes) you really don't feel too sad. Even when the kids die you don't feel very sad for Marlin than you do Simba because Simba is just a little kid while Marlin could take care of himself. In fact you sort of make fun of Marlin saying "Ha he's trying to cry underwater!". You would never make fun of Bambi, Simba or even Kenia. I guess you would feel sad for Nemo during the movie hoping he gets back to his father but you know he's going to go back to his father eventually because than it wouldn't be a kids movie! So that's why I think Finding Nemo isn't that good when it comes to heart or humor!

Maybe you didn't but I did, friends did and one of my sisters did. What got me was it was so quick and sudden and maybe I was sad because I have lost people close to me quick and suddenly although most people I know haven't and they were still pretty emotional.

I think it has heart and it has the humour but I've already droned on long enough about that

Oh don't worry! I may not like this film much but at the very least it is way better than a lot of the crap being presented by Cartoon Network etc.

To the topic: I was wondering the same thing when the movie came out. I watched it, and it was kind of funny. Afterwards, I was like "It was worth watching at least once." Then the craze started. All these people saying "OMG, Finding Nemo is my FAVORITE movie ever!" And it just wasn't a couple of people, it was EVERYBODY. After that, I stopped trusting the words of critics and anyone else who told me the movie was awesome. The only movies so far by Pixar that I've liked (I mean, really liked.) are Toy Story and the Incredibles.

Now that I have watched all Pixar movies I still think Finding Nemo is the best one yet :)

Here's my order:

Finding Nemo
Monsters, Inc.
The Incredibles
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Toy Story

Man, I can't believe how many people here are saying Finding Nemo is overrated. . .

I was also surprised that this film found such an enormous audience, but I think it deserved it.

I don't think that the humor was the basis for the story at all, so I don't judge the film over any lack it may have for not being absolutely hilarious every two seconds.

Marlon went through a very real and traumatic event at the beginning of the film that crippled him emotionally, after all. This wasn't just a story about a fish looking for his missing son, it was about a father finding himself, setting his fears aside, and learning to live again. I love how his character develops over the course of the film.

I think Dory is very endearing. The memory loss thing didn't really bother me, and I thought Ellen did an excellent job with her voice. And I still cry every time Dory begs Marlon not to leave her. You can feel her desperation of needing something familiar, of needing family, even though she can't put her finger (or fin?) on what it is that she's afraid of losing.

So I guess what I love most about this film is what I love the most about any Pixar films; that through the course of the adventure, the characters grow and change, becoming better monsters, bugs, toys, super-heros, and even fish.
