Miyazaki flicks.
Well, I thought this would fit best here...cause well, Miyazaki isnt really "Disney" per se, the DVDs are just distributed by Disney. And I figger if anything, the mods will use some MOD MAGIC to move it to the right forum.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnyway, some of you might think I'm a little blasphemous but I have NEVER seen a Miyazaki flick. I have to watch Spirited Away for film (the WDW College Program Seminar is that same day, so I have to do it on my own time), and Kiki's Delivery Service is gonna be on Toon Disney tomorrow afternoon, so I figger "hey, why not catch up on what I'm apparently missing..."
So that leads to my question: BESIDES KDS and SA, which Miyazaki films should I see and in what order?
Thanks much in advance,
Dave.

Yes, but i've read that it's only available in a crappy P&S version until Disney releases their version..PublicEnemy#1 wrote:I would say that My Neighbor Totoro is a wonderful introduction.

Porco Rosso
Castle in the Sky
Princess Mononoke
Nausicaa
The Cat Returns(though technicly,it's just a Studio Ghibli film,not a Miyazaki film)

I think Nausicaa is the best of the bunch even better than Spirited Away.
Castle in the Sky is also excellent.
Porco Rosso and the Cat Return are very good.

The order I would watch them if I was new to Miyazaki DVDs is to start chronologically.
I try and try to get my friends to see these but they can't get into them. They eventually tried one each (tlaking aobut three friends) and not a single one could hold their attention.
I like my friends but out of my three best friends none of them are into any movie with too much thought. Theya re more into movies for action, adventure, romance and mindless entertainment.

Anywhere would be good to start. Nausicaa would be a fine place to start. In terms of general accessiblility, Kiki's Delivery Service or Porco Rosso are probably the most accesible.
I actually didn't like Spirited Away because of it's incoherentness.
Also don't forget about Castle of Cagliostro and Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies.

In some ways, dogs are superior to men.

Chronological Order:DaveWadding wrote:Maybe I will watch them chronologically...
but I don't know what the chronological order is.
The Castle of Caliostro(Very hard to find in stores)
Nausciaa of the Valley of the Wind
Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro(Pan and Scan)
Grave of the Fireflies
Kiki's Delivery Serivce
Porco Rosso
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
The Cat Returns
I didn't include those not released in the US. I would just skip Totoro until the Disney version comes out.

Lilo: David, I got a new dog!
David: Huh? You sure it's a dog?
Lilo: Uh-huh. He used to be a collie before he got run over.
