Well, regardless of the audiences' changing priorites, I think people have a different set of standards for a movie with the Disney label. Not Hollywood, not Touchtone, but the actual word Disney in the label. And Big was a Fox movie, wasn't it?

Yeah, I understand what you're saying, I just think that people's priorities get really messed up sometimes.

For example, now that audio CD's get rated just like movies do, why does Wal-mart still insist on carrying edited music but has no problem with carrying R-rated DVD's?

I've heard how many parents say, "You can't put something like that in a Disney movie," frowning on the supposedly subliminal images in Lion King and Aladdin, but laughing their butts off over the Shrek films and Shark Tale! What gives?

Well, networks don't want to get sued by viewers for showing improper material. Even FOX cover the animated nude butts from The Simpson's and American Dad. This is going overboard parents are responsible for their children and what they see on television. Young Adults and Adults can watch what they want it’s their choice. How about CSI they show dead bodies why doesn't CBS stop showing the bodies?

Exactly! And you couldn't even see anything! Good lord, everyone's been over-reacting to a natural body part that wasn't even fully exposed for that split-second to begin with!

My fiance works in radio and had to attend a meeting that drew out his station's interpretation of what is considered obscene by the FCC within days of the Janet incident. Sadly, the FCC has turned it into a guessing game! Broadcasters everywhere are pulling things that were once considered appropriate out of fear of being fined!

I just don't get it, coming from Italy it simply makes no sense to me. In Italy we had a commercial for bottled water that featured a topless woman (in full sunlight) walking around and then gettin to the bottle, ad thats it. It didn't make the headlines, because people there are not as sexually repressed. If someone would have tried to sue the makers of the commercials they would have been laughed at. America is pretty ridiculous I must say.

I'll agree with ya there. Americans are way too uptight about this kind of thing. But since it's such "forbidden fruit" to see exposed breasts here, I guess that automatically makes it an overtly sexual thing and that's when people get uncomfortable.

And based on this same principle, imagine how scandalous it was to see a lady's ankles exposed about a century ago! Or even just a few decades ago when Jeannie wasn't allowed to expose her belly-button on TV! Yeesh.

Did anyone really think about the song that was playing during the Janet incident? The last line of it is "I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song!" Why was there no complaints about that? I swear, the lyrics in today's music make the idea of exposed breasts seem rather tame. I mean, I can't even play the radio for the kids in my program because it's gotten so bad! Talk about irony here.

I don't like the way Americans give the human body such negative connotations and how girls are particularly susceptible to a poor body image. And maybe I'm weird for thinking so, or maybe I got warped into the idea when I was in art school and had to draw from live, nude models. But there was a definite over-reaction to Janet Jackson. At the very most, they should have fined her since she knew better. But to fine all the networks that aired the incident? I mean, come on! She knew the standards that are acceptible here for network TV; I'm sure this all would have been a different story had it aired on a cable network.

I watched Titantic not too long ago when it aired on one of the networks and had to laugh at the inconsitancy they had with blurring out certain areas of Jack's drawings. Drawings, people! The kinds you see in museums! Why did they bother blurring out some but leaving others in tact?

Well, I did see the whole film in the theater and once again when it first came out on VHS, so it's been a while. I remember the drawings pretty clearly though since I've done some life drawing myself, and was really annoyed by the editing that the network did. But now that everyone's so worried about FCC fines, I don't know why I expected any less.

Like I said, the thing that got to me was the inconsistancy with the edits. Yeah, let's haze out the nipples on all of Jack's artwork. Oh wait, let's not haze them out of his drawing of Rose. What the heck?
