Future Treasures

Post by MPeriolat »

This topic was suggested in the Frank and Ollie board, so I thought I'd kick it off.

So, what can we expect for a 2004 wave? Well, from what I've heard on the boards, there are two certainties:

Mickey Mouse in Black and White 2 which should be all the missing black and whites with our favorite rodent.

and

True-Life Adventures. Roy Disney has been personally pushing for the restoration and release of these. Cannot WAIT for this one.

In the possiblitiy section, we have Zorro. I haven't heard anything new on this for a while but as of the last few months, they were still working on it. Hopefully no issues with the Williams estate will crop up and we will ride with the Spanish Fox next year.

The fourth Treasure, if there is to be one, is REALLY up in the air. Disney was going to try and release some episodes of the original Mickey Mouse Club, but too many people got greedy and talks broke down, so it's been shelved for the foreseeable.

What would I like to see for the fourth? One of three things:

1. A Treasure I've called Disney Wildlife. Release some of the episodes of the anthology series dealing with animal wildlife like Rusty and the Falcon, A Tale of Two Critters, etc. Would make a nice companion for the True Lifes.

2. A Treasure dealing with the cartoon shorts of Pluto, Chip n' Dale, Figaro, Ferdinand the Bull and Lambert, among others. Get all the animal short cartoons out on one Treasure and be done with it.

3. Silly Symphonies 2. There are easily at least 30 Symphonies not released as yet, mostly from 1929 and 1930. Let's get em out there, people!

Comments? Thoughts?

As I have posted before, Wave 4 is tentatively scheduled to included MMBW2; Mickey Mouse Club; Complete Pluto and A Compilation set that includes all of the random shorts that don't fit in normal series ie: Goliath II and Pigs is Pigs. This set may also include Ben & Me and Donald in Mathmagicland. There are some other surprises that I cannot dicuss at this time that might be included in this set. If it goes as planned, it will be packed.

I'll keep you posted as the plans firm up. 8) As Luke will tell you, my info is pretty reliable.

I, as many people all over the Internet, would snatch up an educational set (we're talking about the Goofy, Donald, and Jiminy Cricket cartoons here) as soon as it were released. However, I am REALLY looking forward to Wave 4, especially that Compilation Set, which should be awesome.

I would LOVE to see a set including the True Life Adventures, as well as the wildlife shorts. My guess is one or both of these would be low priority though ... at least until the shorts have been exhausted for the principal characters.

That's good. I was only thinking the other night what would happen to all those 'other' toons that don't quite fit. I was hoping to see them on a set somewhere.

The ones I was going to pick were the ones that Trojan has already mentioned: MMBW2 and Pluto. Mickey Mouse Club would be fun - although I'm told there are rights issues with all the people involved.

Other stuff on my 'Ultimate Treasures Wishlist' (or other stuff I think should be on DVD) includes:
- Silly Symphonies 2!
- Educational Set: Everyone wants it. Triangle of Health/Equilateral triangle stuff would rock.
- Complete Disneyland episodes. There are a bucketload of these out there. We have seen a bunch on the Treasures so far, but sooo many more to come. Could keep us in Treasure sets for the next 7 Waves....
- True Life is another obvious one. Just to see the famous lemmings episodes where the makers allegedly induced the lemmings to walk off the cliff...
- Winnie the Pooh. I know a lot of this stuff is on DVD already (not all of it in the US though), but Pooh-ophiles (like me!) could wrap their sticky honey drenched fingers around a tin that would have all the theatrical shorts, additional shorts, stuff from the TV series. Add to this documentaries on AA Milne, the early development and the Leonard Maltin intros and you'd have a great set any Pooh fan would buy twice.
- Disney UNCUT! Anything that has been censored, edited or banned over the years. Obvious things include Song of the South, the edits in the package feature DVDs restored, any propaganda films not on Frontlines etc. Would make for fascinating viewing. Could include a brief doco on stuff banned outside the US for various reasons.
- Commercial shorts. At the brilliant Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts there is a listing for all of these. I'm not sure how much legal work Disney would have to do to clear this up, especially considering they are essential ads (albeit old ones) for other people.
- A Very Disney Christmas: I love Xmas stuff. You could have Pooh, Once Upon a Christmas (?), Mickey's Christmas Carol, Pluto's Christmas Tree, The Small One, and much much more. Were there any Disneyland Xmas episodes? Everything 'Countdown to Christmas' should have been. I think I'd watch this any time of year! And it doesn't stop there! Every season! Easter! Halloween! Hanukkah! New Years! Ooh, getting excited!

Ok, well. We've got the next 3 years covered :D

With nearly 50 Pluto shorts, they're not going to put much else on that set.
You may get the 3 Figaro shorts since they are a part of the "Mickey Universe"

I'm expect Wave 4 will have:
MM in BW vol 2
DD vol 2
Pluto
one of MMC, Zorro, True-Life

Wave 5 will probably have
SS Vol 2
DD vol 3
another live-action

That would leave a final wave 6 with
DD vol 4 (perhaps with the Chip 'n' Dale and Humprey Bear spin-offs)
the final live action
an "other" set or two (an "anthology film" complication and an "educational shorts" perhaps)

I really hope they dont release a Zorro set. That will be the only Treasure collection ever that I wont buy.

Im hoping for a complete Pluto, more Donald Duck sets, an Educational Treasure, Silly Symphonies 2, Mickey B&W 2 and all the specials, ie - Humphrey, Chip N Dale, Figaro, Pigs Is Pigs, etc... I would also like to see a collection of more Walt Disney Presents episodes and a True Life Adventures.

OK, once more with feeling:

MMC ain't happening. At all. And has been completely shelved for the foreseeable. I know there are some others that are "no longer appealling" to Disney because of the rights issues also, still trying to get some word on those.

MM in BW 2 is a go for sure. True Life Adventures is a go for sure. Everything else is just speculation.

Zorro is VERY likely, but not for sure yet.

I agree, Complete Pluto appeals to me, but I don't think there are enough Pluto shorts to justify. Add Chip n' Dale, Figaro and the other Disney animated wildlife shorts like Lambert and Ferdinand and we're cooking.

Personally, I'd go for either that or Symphonies 2, plus Zorro. I just want to get all the animated shorts restored and out before focusing on the anthology series, although I do have some thoughts on that one also!

my wish list for disney to release on dvd (most likely if they go to dvd they would go to the "treasures" set) are:

Zorro (now i know a "complete series" is a bit much to ask for, but if they did a vlume 1 and volume 2 like MMILC then we could get most if not ALL the episodes)

Daniel Boone (the complete miniseries could probably fit on one disc, but if we were to get any good special features then we may as well spread it out right?)

Walt Disney's True Life Adventures (this goes without saying as a compilation of some of the most interetsing nature films ever made)

The Swamp Fox (another miniseries which could easily be a 2-disc set)

The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (released abroad theatrically, this miniseries is perhaps the most difficult to find on VHS)

More Disneyland USA (just give the people what they want......MORE WALT!)

Texas John Slaughter (this awesome western miniseries is about ten episodes long, so a 3 or 4 disc set would probably be called for)

If there is ANY info as to a dvd release of any of this stuff please, please, please, please, please let me know (hint, hint trojan mouse  )

Here is my MOST WANTED list:
-The Chronological Donald Volume 2
-The Chronological Donald Volume 3
-Educational Set (to include the 7 Donald's, 2 Goofy's, and the Jiminy Crickets)
-The Complete Pluto (there ARE enough to fill a set up)
-Assortment (ALL non-characters shorts and featurettes, and FIGARO, CHIP AND DALE, and BEEZY BEAR)
-Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume 2
-Silly Symphonies Volume 2
-The Silent Cartoons

If these were to be released, Disney would make a fortune!

Not for anything i see very little on Donald Duck {with a few exceptions}.

If they released Volume 1 this year, i would imagine Volume 2 would be included next year.

So that makes DD V.2,MMBW2,and the widlife series as strong possibilities. Possibly Pluto as the fourth, however they tend to keep it two cartoon and two live actionish.

that would indicate that you might have Zorro as the 4th and pluto getting pushed to wave 5 where he joins the misc. cartoons as the two cartoon releases.

This of course says nothing of DD vol. 3 which might pushed the misc. back a little further. My guess is that for misc. they might not do a treasures release but a regulat one because many of them dont really need a ton of introductions. Of course somewhere in there has to be SS vol. 2.

Personally, I don't like the live-action stuff and it should be in a different series. And all four this year are animated, and the three last year are animated. So I'm not sure where this "two live-action, two cartoon" comes from. :?:

If they release Donald every other year it would take forever for them to come out...

doesnt tomorrow land and and the frontlines set contain quite a bit live action.

LAst year there was disneyland and behind the scenes at the animation studio which wasnt really "cartoons" so to speak.

I am talking a pure cartoon set.

Like series 1. MMILC was a cartoon set. Silly symphanies was a cartoon set.

Last year MMBW was cartoon as was Goofy {the best set to date in my opinion} while the others were different.

Same with this year you have two cartoon releases and the other two might have some animation in them but arent really a full cartoon set, so to speak.

The three part-animation part-live-action sets mostly appeal to animation fans more than live-action fans.. Much moreso than DISNEYLAND USA or DAVY CROCKETT, which is sort of for a different croud in my opinion.. :|

Although I'm not big on the Walt Disney Treasures (I'd like to own them all, but they're not a major priority for me), Pooh and Christmas sets would DEFINITELY be must-buys for me. ::drool:: :D
