Preserving Authenticity

Post by Lightyear »

Curious about general opionion... Being ebay is one of the easiest outlets to get OOP DVD's, Has anyone policed the DVD's offered and has tried to get a seller that was obviously selling bootlegs removed?

I received a bootleg DVD and reported it to Paypal and was refunded my money, and the user also was either booted or left Ebay cause I couldn't leave any feedback.

heck yea! :D
GOOD FOR YOU! :thumb:
I do that when I see bootlegged DVDs...like that wonderful "ONE-DISC PE Snow White"
I did it to one seller who sold me an asian import of "LK2" arguing with me that it was REAL. 'Dumas' (in French ;)) I ended up getting money back, kicked the seller off, and ended up with a bootleg DVD that people borrow.

It stinks to be wherever you are because the 2nd Snow White disc is filled with the best Disney extras and possibly the best of any movie extras of all time!

Maybe I should've been clearrrrr. :P

When sellers sell the "one-disc PE snow white" claiming its a Real U.S. release.

DF2000, where you from?

Lucylover1986, you're right! The 2nd disc is absolutely amazing. :D

I know England got a single-disc Snow White and a 2-disc set. Same with Beauty and the Beast.

I don't quite understand how you can tell the difference between a real one and a bootlegged one on ebay? I mean before you make a bid and all that. Or even when you get the package in the mail. I don't know much about movie specs and stuff. The ratios and stuff. So I don't know if I'd be able to tell or not.

Your first lines of defense are actually kind of obvious, and it almost sounds like a cliche: if it looks too good to be true (especially pricewise) it probably is.

And you also have feedback profiles to refer to.

My tip is to peruse the used. Nobody sells bootlegs like they're used b/c they try to pass them off as new imports. Plus, the used sellers will try to say stuff like "all inserts included."

I was looking at ebay just now and I think this seller looks legit but I wanted to know everyone's opinion since I'm a rookie in spotting this type of stuff.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 27252&rd=1

Thanks.

hard to tell..especially without a real picture.
most of his feedback is positive, but maybe it's because those people can't tell if its a bootleg. :(

your best bet is to go with someone with a REAL picture and GOOOOOOD feedback. i just don't want you to get ripped off or what not.

I dunno..you think with all that money he's getting out of selling all those DVDs, he'd use some for a digital camera to post a real picture.

If you're looking for this DVD, Hikari is selling hers... :)

Yes, I saw earlier that she was selling them but she's asking for more then I wanted to pay for them. Shrugs. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your input. :)

And..there's always HALF.COM (look at feedback, ask for real pictures) and the Amazon marketplace. :)

Good luck, and I hope you find it! :D
