I DON'T HAVE IT YET....
I asked my sister to buy it for me since my birthday's coming up but she just said "What if I told your friends you wanted Bambi for your birthday?" and she just walked away... That was a stupid think to say, I don't really care, I just want my DVD damn it.
Since Incredibles is having a 3 dollar coupon for it I guess I'll just get it in the next month... *sigh*

Yes you are right it does not matter if other people know you have Bambi. I am 6 feet 3 inches a male and 28 years old and I tell people I love that movie called Bambi. Also in public I wear my shirts with the Cute,Adorable, Little Skunk called Flower, it even says Flower right on my shirt. Plus I will carry my Flower stuff animal with me in public ect. > I even tell people I sleep and cuddle with Flower
What funny is I am very shy, but I still will let people know that I love this movie and that I really love Flower the Skunk
No one is going to tell me I am too old for this lol >

This just sounds stupid. It sounds like your sister has some growing up to do.PublicEnemy#1 wrote:I DON'T HAVE IT YET....I asked my sister to buy it for me since my birthday's coming up but she just said "What if I told your friends you wanted Bambi for your birthday?" and she just walked away... Since someone else here thinks that hight does mather then I am a little higher than 6,5 and I am 29 in a few days.
When my postman figured out why I was so gled yesterday when I told him the content of the package I got then he smiled up to and we had a nice conversation about new animation movies and classics in general.
.. and to get back to the topic of this thread:
I have just watched disc 2 but I am going to watch the movie today. I loved the extras.
"You hate to repeat yourself. I don't like to make sequels to my pictures. I like to take a new thing and develop something, a new concept." - Walt Disney
The logo changes aren't too frequent. Some of the older live action films are more likely to not have their original opening logos (<i>Old Yeller</i> comes to mind). But on the whole, they've been pretty good, with <i>Mary Poppins</i> and <i>Bambi</i> the two recent exceptions. (And <i>The Lion King</i>, which had the blue castle logo replaced for IMAX exhibitions.)maxeythecat wrote:Question......is this something that they've only started doing recently? I don't seem to remember seeing this on other releases of their classics.

That cool karlsen. One of the things I meant by the height thing was I don't feel like I have to try to fit into that macho image, just because I am 6'3 and a male its just not for me, I am into the cutesy stuff lol. What is funny and cool is I actually find that some of my friends who happen to be girls think its cute that I like Flower and the movie Bambi so much
They are like wow its not everyday you see a guy your age who is really into stuff like that, that is so awesome.
So you have not watch the movie yet since you last post ? I have watch it 15 times lol. Also yes you are right the bonus stuff is awesome. I really like the Bambi Pedia feature especially when they talk about Skunk's and show Flower that was really cute
Hey I think you will really enjoy inside walt's story meeting that was so awesome !!!

The story meetings were great, a trip in time. But I think that they don't replace a commentary. A commentary like the Sleeping Beauty one kicks Walts meeting's butt big time. Would have been cool to have both, but its still great as it is.
The making of was awsome. Milt Khal sneaked up on me, I was totally not expecting him to appear, I didn't even know there were interviews with him. Great stuff.

When one guy of my classroom knowed than I like Bambi he just have a shock--and I mean,as Flower´s Fiend told It´s not really usual to see a very tall boy(by the way, how´s weather up there?:)) or a Gym guy to be seen buying Bambi--
My girlfriend also think than it´s cool, and she usually cal me Bambi boy.
And yes, this DVD it´s great, and for me I´ll like to see animated the scene of Bambi´s first snow

I know we are 8 pages into this topic, but I still wanted to offer my praise for this DVD. I can't tell you how long it had been since I saw this, so watching it a few days ago was like watching it for the first time. And let me just tell you how much I loved it!!! I thought the movie had such great animation and music (I have the "April Showers" song stuck in my head). I also thought the pacing was really well done. The movie is not that long, but there is so much going on that you would never realize it.
As for the DVD itself...the resortation was great! The movie looks spectacular and I couldn't have asked for more. The making-of feature was also really informative and I enjoyed the "Disney Time Capsule" (hopefully they continue this with upcoming releases). Overall, I thought this was a great release and I have a much better appreciation and love for Bambi now then I did a week ago.

Bambi Slipcover
I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not. I was walking through Target and noticed that the Bambi's on display looked different. I saw one with the slipcover and all the rest (about 25) were without the slipcover. I'm wondering if the outer cover was only produced for a limited time. Does anyone have any info on this.

Isidour I take it you are a gym guy. was the guy who seemed shocked that you liked Bambi nice about it ? I even sleep with stuff animals, many of my friend who are girls think that is really cute. One think though is I will not wear a pink shirt. Like Flower is on a yellow and blue shirt. Nothing wrong with a guy wearing a pink shirt, its just not me
But I would love to go on a date with a girl who was wearing a shirt with Flower on a pink shirt and i have the same design on a blue shirt, that would be cute and awesome
Also I have no problem with Macho guys, its just not me, it's a good thing that we are all different it helps make life more interesting.
I liked the Sleeping Beauty Audio Commentary, but I wished they would have talked more about the story. Yes the colors and artwork where great, but I rather hear more about why they like the story and all that. With Lord of the Rings yes the special effects where great, but I was more into the story than the special effects. They are suppossed to put Sleeping Beauty out on a Platinum Edition. Seems kinda strange since there Special Edition seemed like a Platinum Edition. When they do I hope they take everyone on there now out of print edition and just add to it. This way I can give my old Sleeping Beauty Dvd to a special friend, if not I will keep both because there is way too much good stuff on that Dvd for me to give up
What would be cool is to keep the really great Commentary about the Artwork and stuff but add another one the talks about the great story.
The inside Walt Disney was the best Audio Commentary that I have ever seen ( iif it can be called an Audio Commentary, its not really but just so I can compare it ) At least for me it was the best. I would have enjoyed seeing a normal Audio Commentary and I wish they would have had both, but I would have enjoyed the Inside Walt Disney's Story meeting more

I just got Bambi in my mail today and I already watched most of the bonus material. I'll watch the movie tomorrow! The thing that struk me is that they are really honoring Walt on this DVD (like they should). I just noticed that
The Disney Database - All the Disney magic in 1 site!
I don't know where to post this, the Missing Slipcovers topic is too old, and this is not worth starting a new one, so here i go.
Last week when Bambi was released Walmart had all the DVDs with slipcovers (some had velco and some didn't, but they did have slipcovers), and i just got back from walmart right now and None of the Bambi DVDs (not one) had a slipcover. I know it is not a new shipment because last friday they had more than enough and they were not selling out, so why would Walmart remove the slipcovers?
Off Topic:
also, i found something funny, walmart has reduced the price of Disney/Pixar DVDs to $13.87 for some reason, so today they had all the DVDs in a DISNEY Cardboard Shelf in the aisle, and it says in clear letters "DISNEY DVDs" and it had 3 rows of Shrek 2, and the bottom row was a few copies of Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. i thought it was stupid and funny.

I know the time for Bambi discussion has passed to make room for Incredibles frenzy, but I've just finished going through everthing on the DVD (ok, so I didn't play all the Forest Adventure games and I didn't listen to the mono track, but c'mon!), making it one of a small handful of Disney 2-Discers that I've exhaustively watched, and one of the fastest turn-around times too! So stick with me here.
I've made quite a few posts over the last 1.5 years sort of poo-pooing Bambi here and there. I'll spare you the history of me and Bambi since I've typed it like a million times, but suffice it to say that this was basically the first time I've really seen it from beginning to end. I can admit when I'm wrong. I liked it. No, I loved it. In fact, I was totally blown away and captivated from start to finish.
The artwork was amazing. Walt really was a genius for the multiplane camera. This ranks with Sleeping Beauty for the most beautiful animation in history. Pretty much the only scene I remembered was "Little April Showers" so I never knew it was artistically impressionistic until I read Luke's review. It was really the right way to go. The backgrounds and season shifts are really majestic.
The score also ranks with Sleeping Beauty for one of the most beautiful scores as well. Bambi's is even further-ranging. Apt doesn't begin to describe it, though it was certainly appropriate for every scene. The songs are great too... especially "Little April Showers."
Of course the heart lies in the characters, especially Bambi (but Thumper is my favorite!). The movie really plucks those emotional strings.
My only complaint is that it's a bit too abrupt at times, especially when we move into the spring after Bambi's mother dies. And even that was only an occasional problem. I definitely noticed similarities with TLK, but I think they are distinct enough from one another that we can avoid having to say one is better than the other. I have to say that Bambi left me with that "they don't make 'em like they used to" feeling, but I suppose part of that is that it has the feeling of its era embedded in it.
The DVD itself is great too, albeit a little lighter than other Platinums, TLK notwithstanding. The transfer and sound are great!
I love traditional cast/crew commentaries and even the Walt thing we saw on Snow White & Fantasia. I think these story meeting reenactments might be my favorite of all, though. What a cool concept... and a real treat! I suspect even Walt & Co. would want to see these, to reflect on their plans being so closely realized. I hope we see more of this in the future.
Boy, they really want you to understand how the multiplane camera works. It was explained again and again. That's ok with me, though. I never tire of hearing Walt's explanation (reminds me of hanging out in One Man's Dream at WDW where they play that clip beside the multiplane model). Still, there were surprisingly parts of that I hadn't seen before.
Patrick Stewart is great... not as great as Angela Lansbury... but still great, so I was happy to see him here. To those saying a ton of time would had to have passed for Bambi to grow up, I'm not sure that's true. I'm no deer expert, but I would guess they mature quite a bit faster than humans. In the reenactments, I think Walt says "the next season," which is what I took it to be. I'm not so sure that's an unrealistic time frame.
The seasons personality test was cool. I answered honestly and got Fall. Not only is that hands-down my favorite season, but I thought the personality description was remarkably accurate for me. (I gave false answers and got spring or summer and they weren't accurate at all, so it wasn't one of those one-size-fits-all deals). Pretty cool. Also pretty cool was the virtual forest thing!
The making of and trailer (unfortunately only one), time capsule and even Disneypedia were very welcome additions too. The deleted scenes were kind of "meh," but overall, I definitely gained even more appreciation for the film from the enjoyable bonus features.
A big bravo from me to Disney- both Walt and the present company for a wonderful film and a pretty darn good DVD!

Yep, I got to agree with that. That one abrupt jump in particular you reference is jarring enough to merit snickers from cynical post-modern audiences. Other than that transition, I think the pacing is pretty solid though. It's a coming-of-age story and that is always at the front.awallaceunc wrote:My only complaint is that it's a bit too abrupt at times, especially when we move into the spring after Bambi's mother dies.
