IMO, ebay is still going to be your best option. You can try to search your local pawn shops or used dvd stores also.Lightyear wrote:Where do you all suggest getting DVD's that are OOP?

A bootleg DVD is just a copy that somebody made to sell and make lots of illigal money.Dan05 wrote:what is a bootleg DVD
It is illigal to copy Disney property but there are large groups of people that lives by making copyes and selling them as real.
Lots of the bootlegs comes from Asia and there they often are made by criminal organisations that also deals with drugs and other criminal activities.
Real Disney fans should stay away from bootlegs.

I would agree.. Ebay would be your best option via the net purchasing because you are insured against bootlegs.. May be a pain to get your money back, but at least you aren't frauded in that sense.Big Worms wrote:IMO, ebay is still going to be your best option. Common sense also would help

Buy dvd from people who got only or almost positive feedback check if they don't have tons of copys of the movie don't trust stock photo .Look for white amaray case round corner Don't buy from Malaysia or singapore be sure to know what the disc is looking like if you are buying used like http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 12444&rd=1
is not the real disc artwork ...my little mermaid and 101 dalmatians I bought them with the upc code removed because of the rebate and inside it still had the rebate form in it.but I will probably sell them because it's not the best quality of dvd since they were the first they release and have not much of extra

Question, You mentioned disk art being wrong.. Is there a spot you know of that shows you the real disc art of each disney DVD? I'd like to use it for comparison when shopping ebay.
Thanks again.. The information provided will help alot!

Another question.. On the disk itself, if you flip it over, you can see some coding on the disk (around the mounting hole), is this process easy to duplicate? Is that an easy way to authenticate a DVD?
Also, someone had mentioned the cases with the black DTS bar at the top, I can't find the post, what does that mean again? International DVD right?

Silly Symphonies DVD; do I have a bootleg?
I've been playing my Silly Symphonies Treasure DVD on my computer, recently; and the InfoTool that's part of Nero Express identified both discs as being Region 1 and 4. Just to make sure the InfoTool thing wasn't reading it incorrectly, I temporarily switched my DVD drive to Region 4; and the disc played fine. So I guess it really is both regions.
I did get this set from Ebay. However, what strikes me as odd is that everything about it other than the region coding seems authentic. The tin, the numbering imprinted onto the tin, etc. Fortunately, I didn't pay too much for it. However, I'd like to know.
Can anyone tell me for sure whether it's a bootleg or not? Or test their own Silly Symphonies, if anyone has Nero's InfoTool program, or something similar that will identify the region coding of a disc. If it's a bootleg, I suppose I'll have to get another sometime. Really irks me, though.

I would imagine it is real. Why would a bootlegger make it Region 1,4. Almost all bootleggs are Region Free.

But why would a North American release be Regions 1 and 4? I mean, the tin, insert and discs themselves all have the 'Region 1' logo. Unless all the N.A. Silly Symphonies DVDs are Regions 1 and 4, there must be something weird about the one I have. I assume they were mass-produced all at the same time, with the same basic specs.Mr. Toad wrote:I would imagine it is real. Why would a bootlegger make it Region 1,4. Again, if anyone who has the North American Silly Symphonies release, and can check what the region coding is, it'd be much appreciated. Or if anyone's heard of this anomaly before.

Yes, that's correct, the US release of Silly Symphonies is coded Regions 1 and 4; it's the only one that is, though. Mickey Mouse In Living Colour Vol 1 from the same wave is Region 1 only.TM2-Megatron wrote:Again, if anyone who has the North American Silly Symphonies release, and can check what the region coding is, it'd be much appreciated. Meanwhile, the PAL releases of those two titles and Regions 2 and 4 (for the UK/Europe and Australia/NZ respectively). But of course they've been sped up for NTSC-PAL conversion and the music is noticeably sharp.

Yeah, that's what really led me to post on here, asking about it. After noticing the weird region coding on "Silly Symphonies", I checked all the other Treasures I have and they were all Region 1.
Anyway, thanks for putting my mind at ease about it. I would've been annoyed had I actually bought a bootleg. Weird decision on Disney's part, though, adding the Region 4 coding to a U.S. release.

I think that the bar code around the center of the disc would be easy to duplicate with the right equipment.
I'm looking for the 1999 version of the Simba's Pride DVD. I found one on eBay. The seller is in Taiwan and the DVD has region codes 1/2/3/4/5/6
The languages are English and Chinese. The seller only accepts Paypal and cash. Weird. o.O The seller's rating is %100 with 33 comments.
