Disney DVD Top Future Releases at Amazon

Post by 2099net »

Top Future Releases at Amazon.Com. Now I'm not sure how this works - it doesn't measure total pre-orderes, only orders placed for a title over a specific time period (I think the Top Future Releases are updated weekly - either that or hourly).

There tends to be a preference for discs with closer release dates, which is only natural; most people will only pre-order a disc one or two weeks before release.

That said, I am amazed that The Lion King is not in the list, or any of the wave 3 Treasures. Out of interest none of the Looney Tunes discs/sets are included either. One can only assume that most of the people who are going to pre-order The Lion King etc. have already done so.

Anyhow here's the list (wish I had the foresight to do it in reverse order now)

#12 Sleeping Beauty Special Edition
#29 Stitch! The Movie
#54 Holes [Widescreen Edition]
#76 The Apple Dumpling Gang Special Edition
#116 Escape From Witch Mountain Special Edition
#125 Holes [Full Screen Edition]
#162 Return From Witch Mountain Special Edition
#168 A Muppet Tresure Island Reprice
#204 Kim Possible: The Secret Files
#208 The Absent Minded Professor Black & White Widescreen Edition
#231 The Brave Little Toaster
#329 The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue
#376 Mickey's House of Villains Reprice (Villains? Pah. Pete was hardly in it :()
#389 Spookable Pooh/Frankenpooh Reprice

Special Bonus Selection
Amelie/Like Water for Chocolate/Il Postino/Chocolat not Disney but Miramax (so Buena Vista) and 3 of the 4 are well worth seeing. An extraordinary cheap price for the package - ad over.

Side Note: The Adventures of Pluto Nash is number 450. All subsequent discs have a lower number of pre-orders than Pluto Nash. :o

#458 Princess of Thpeves Reprice
#467 Playhouse Disney Halloween
#512 The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars
#517 Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas - rerelease, no reprice
#850 Tarzan & Jane/101 Dalmations II - package
#1023 Old Yeller/Pollyanna - package
#1261 Tarzan & Jane/The Rookie - package

Looking at their Today's Top Sellers section we have a much different list

#10 Finding Nemo
#24 The Lion King Special Platinum Edition (Special Platinum Edition eh?)
#39 Sleeping Beauty Special Edition
#48 Walt Disney Treasures - The Chronological Donald Volume 1
#55 Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse In Living Color Volume 2
#63 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition :o
#70 Stitch! The Movie
#80 SchoolHouse Rock! Special 30th Anniversary Edition
#94 Beauty & the Beast Special Platinum Edition

Does anyone know why the lists should be so different? Most of the Today's Top Sellers aren't in the Top Future Releases list at all!

probably because they're not as updated as much as the daily one is??

Also, I love your thoughts on Mickey's House of Villians!

It doesn't surprise me that the Old Yeller/Pollyanna set is selling so low....because it's actually a 4-movie pack with Old Yeller, Pollyanna, Parent Trap, and Swiss Family Robinson that Amazon doesn't have listed properly. As it is, ordering Old Yeller and Pollyanna separately would be cheaper than the non-existent hypothetical 2-pack. Their links at the bottom have finally been updated to include the other two movies, but the listing is still wrong. And it's actually 8 discs, not 4.

Where is their Top Future Releases listed?

Top Future Releases? I'll need to find that page. Thanks for the info 2099net. I didn't know that Amazon.com had two "Top Sellers" lists.

What Sales Rank Means

As an added service for customers, authors, publishers, artists, labels, and studios, we show how items in our catalog are selling. This bestseller list is much like The New York Times Bestsellers List, except it lists millions of items! The lower the number, the higher the sales for that particular title.

The calculation is based on Amazon.com sales and is updated regularly. The top 10,000 best sellers are updated each hour to reflect sales in the preceding 24 hours. The next 100,000 are updated daily. The rest of the list is updated monthly, based on several different factors.

We hope you find the Amazon.com Sales Rank interesting!

there is no information on how often the list is updated, or how the information is collected. There was certainly some major omissions in the list when I browsed it.

It seems to have changed now though.
