I have never actually watched any if these (they aren't screened/sold out here to my knowledge), but I am familiar with the series.

However, I think I find the idea of talking, singing and preaching produce disturbing.

Particularly as a vegetarian.

Even though I'm not a practicing religious type - and this is not a comment against people who follow a religion - does anyone else find the fact that you are being encouraged to enact the self-proclaimed "Sunday morning values" by something you are encouraged to eat for your own health?

Then again, I suppose at at Catholic mass you are encouraged to eat the flesh and drink the blood.....
Maybe this series works on a whole level I hadn't thought about before. Hmmm...

This is why I stopped eating meat. Too many religious cows....

Hey guys for reals though. I didnt pick up one religious undertone in the silly songs movie. So i guess my next question for this topic is , Do the veggies ever really get preachy at all? Obviously Silly Song Count Down is the only Veggie Tales movie i've seen. Thinking of getting Jonah for my kids so thats why ask.[/b]

Re: Jonah - I'll come right out now and say I didn't really enjoy it. There I've said it. I wouldn't say it was overtly "preachy" but it is heavily based on religion (as you would probably expect being a retelling of a biblical story).

I think the main faults were those of the original story. To me it had a weak ending. But I understand this is the ending from the bible story and others will have a different view to mine. Some if it was inspired (Love the Go Fish sequence) but sadly, there weren't enough of these moments to keep me happy.

I must add they also did a mighty fine CGI water surface too - especially when you consider the tools and budger for the feature compared to say, a Pixar film.

However, the DVD is another matter. It is superb. In fact, I would say it beats the Beauty and the Beast Platinum collection set for overall fun and content. [Controversial :)] And you cannot miss the Larry and Mr. Lunt commentary - it's a whole new, much more entertaining film with these two babbling on. Top marks for the DVD and the entertaining second movie - Joanah with Larry and Mr Lunt commentating.

I do not think you will be disappointed. You may want to rent it first though.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Now then, I did have a question about the movies. Which one has Daniel and the Lion's Den on it? Is that "Where is God When I'm Scared?" And what story does "God Wants me to Forgive Them?" tell?

David and the Lion's Den is on the Where's God When I'm Scared video. The video God Wants Me to Forgive Them is a lesson in forgiving. There are 2 shorts on this video. The first one is called the Grapes of Wrath which is about sort of a hick family that is very rude that Junior Asparagus sets back on the right track. The other short is a spinoff of Gilligans Island which has Larry as "Gilligan" and Bob as "the Skipper". They use their real names in the story, but it is obvious that these are the characters they are supposed to be portraying. This video does not have a Silly Song with Larry in it  yes i know its sad isnt it. instead they have this funny commercial about a product called The Forgive-o-matic. This video doesnt have any stories based from the bible but it is quite entertaining. I hope they will make a version of Noah's Ark for Veggie Tales. that will be funny.

Totally cool! I have to begin collecting them NOW! But I have Disney DVDs to buy and no money... oh well. Credit card anyone? Man, I'm in a really good mood today. A Noah movie would be good. Are the Larry Boy movies in 2D? And has anyone else seen the other series Big Idea does?

well 2 Larry Boy episodes were made in CGI (Fib from Outer Space, and The Rumor Weed) and the other Larry Boy episodes are in 2D animation. I only saw one of the 2D animated Larry Boy (Angry Eyebrows) but i prefer the CGI episodes of Larry Boy since i prefer CGI than traditional animation. I also saw the series 321 Penguins but it didnt have much humor and heart that Veggie Tales have.

I also remeber that in the Jonah DVD when they were talking about an idea for a full length moive, Big Idea was going to do a movie for Noah's Ark but it was to hard to make fur in CGI so they went with working on Jonah. but they did say that in the future they will make a movie of Noah's Ark once they know the basics of making fur.

UPDATE!!! Look what 2099net said!
2099net wrote:Big Idea Bought Out
Animation Magazine reveals that the family entertainment group Classic Media has bought out Big Idea Prods., the company responsible for the popular, faith-based VeggieTales home video and feature film franchise. According to Daily Variety, Classic intends to keep growing the series of CG animated bible stories acted out by musically inclined produce. Despite selling more than 30 million video units over the past nine years, Big Idea recently filed bankruptcy. The cause is said to be an increase in operating costs associated with the feature film Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. While the $14 million movie made a tidy $25 million at the box office, the studio put the brakes on its lucrative home video business to self-finance the film. Big Idea had also begun work on a follow-up feature, The Bob & Larry Movie. Big Idea could not be reached for details on the status of that film.
