My site thread (was: good free webhosts?)

Post by Starion »

Original title was: Any good free webhosts?

Can anyone recomend a free website hosting company for me? I like to have my own free website. I don't think I need any more than 25 MB. I don't want any limits on the number of files or pages I can have on my site.

I don't mind having banner ads, but I don't like hosts that add javascript (advertismentss) to my pages. Geocities.com is ok, but they add DHTML and popup ads. :(

I'm thinking about Netfirms.com, 50Megs.com and Freeservers.com.

I remember reading a thread about free picture hosts. I'm going to look for that thread now.

Netfirms sucks, that much I know. Remember how the site would go down every hour or so? And that was their paid service. I'd stay away from them.

Geocities and Angelfire both really blow...as a matter of fact, just about all free webhosts do. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're about 5 years too late for any decent ones, at least as far as I know. :(

My dad bought a Yahoo! Webhosting package before I signed up for an Angel Towns site. www.angeltowns.com My dad let me create my own subdomain and subdirectory.

I need to upload my files before I let everyone test it. :D

A big thanks goes to Luke for information about webhosts.

Here are some directories that list free webhosts:
http://www.free-webhosts.com/
Free-Webhosts has a list of hosts that don't display banner ads on their sites.

http://www.100best-free-web-space.com/

I'll update this thread when I'm ready for people to test it.

Since this thread is about my website that is under construction:

Well, I have a question that is related to posting images on fansites and websites. Is it ok for me to use copyrighted images on my fansite? How do big companies like Disney feel about fansites using their images? I'm not making any money or misleading people. I just want to post some screenshots of Disney films on my site.

I see that Ultimate Disney, dvd.ign.com and several other sites post images of the latest Disney movies on their sites. I don't think Disney has asked them to take the images and screenshots down.

I believe that the studios allow fansites to use images. I haven't heard of a studio or company shutting down a fansite because the site used copyrighted images. I do know of an incident where a company asked a site owner to take down some movies.

I gotta run as usual.

I honestly don't think it would matter that you'd be taking images from them. I mean, you're using a free webhost.

Just incase, if you want, you can credit the source. Just be sure to not make it seem like your own, or imply that you own it... which most people understand cause we'll, just duh

Ok, thanks for the information. You reminded me to credit the source. I forgot about that. Actually, I will be using Yahoo! Small Business hosting. Of course, I'm not planning to sell anything. Anyone want some shareware I made in Borland Delphi? j/k

If anyone is looking for a cheap webhosting service, check out http://www.sv1.us/ Their cheapest plan costs $16 USD per year They offer 150mb Space, 3gb Bandwidth, PHP, CGI and more.

There is a plan that costs $33 a year. This plan includes 2 GB of space and 45 GB of bandwidth.

They also have some other attractive plans. I don't think the price includes domain name registration though.
