It's basically the same premise as the second pilot, just a different actress playing Mary Alice, and I think there was a few other actors that were recast as well.

Uhh.. it is so annoying! Desperate Housewives's new episodes take forever to come out. We have to wait another 2 WEEKS for just a new one!! I would be fine with at least repeats to hold me down!!

It is annoying, but it makes us want more too ;) They have basically repeated most of the episodes already, so I say taking a break seems logical.

ABC has always done this, since the early 90's I can remember them doing this to their shows

I think he meant the 'Lost' original pilot not the lost 'Desperate Housewives' pilot. :)

Anyway... I'll start saving... besides amazon.com always gets like 30% off the new releases....
That's very Cheap IMO
Don't be ridiculous; that isn't cheap. It's allright to buy these things, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking we're actually paying reasonable prices.

As for me, I may get Lost eventually. But not for a bit. I mean, these shows are still aired on television; it's not really worth it to own them yet. Most of the shows I own are either older, or ones that don't air on channels I get (ie. HBO). I'll make exceptions for a modern show if it's exceptionally good, which is why I'll get Lost eventually. However, Desperate Housewives, while fun, is not exceptional in many ways.

Actually that is very cheap compared to what the Sopranos, and Sex and the City and Buffy and Angel are priced at

It's all a matter of perspective. Fox's X-Files sets, Paramount's Star Trek sets, and HBO's dramas have sold for much more. Heck, season sets of hour-long shows provide twice as much content for a retail price just $10 higher than Buena Vista's season sets of half-hour sitcoms. Two 70-minute movies could carry an SRP of $59.99, and so do 16 hours of episodes.

None of which are worth buying, as all are aired constantly; Buffy and Angel particularly. The first two are HBO shows, though, which I'd expect to sell for a bit higher anyway (though neither are HBO's best). The first season of Buffy is actually down to $29 in Canada right now, as are the first seasons of 24, Family Guy and several others. However, they still really aren't worth buying, except maybe Family Guy.
It's all a matter of income; none of these things are necessary. Was X-Files really that good that it's worth hundreds of dollars to own the whole series?

I'm starting to think some people are trying to start up their own personal TV stations. I'd always thought I indulged in DVDs more than the average person (and too much for my own good), and maybe I do, I dunno. I have about 65 DVD titles, mostly movies with a few tv series (Transformers s1/2/3/4, Beast Wars s1/2/3 & the Brady Bunch s1 for nostalgia value; and Firefly, Monk s1/2 and Curb Your Enthousiasm s1/2 for the modern shows).

But apparently that's nothing compared to those who have either too much money (or just too many credit cards) or too much time on their hands. Most people don't make enough that they can just go throw money around on every piece of crap TV series that comes out on DVD, usually not much more than a week after the season ends its run; and to do so is ridiculous.

Movies are one thing, as the odds are your favourites aren't readily accesible on television whenever you feel the need to watch it. But is it necessary to own every god-forsaken TV show you've ever watched and mildly enjoyed on DVD? Does it really make sense? Does anyone have time to watch it over and over enough times to make it worthwhile, and still be left with a life in the real world?

And believe me, I've bashed Paramount for their Trek prices more than once before. To buy every season of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and the first 4 seasons of ENT (hoping they'll be more) would cost more than $5000 in Canada, after taxes. Anyone who can justify that kind of money on a show that probably airs more often than any other is a fool; not to mention horrendously wasteful and self-indulgent. That's 10% of the average income in Canada; and on a TV show? Come on. All of the Trek series are on TV all the time; there's no need to buy them. One one channel or another, there's probably a Star Trek episode airing every hour of every day.

Personally, I refuse to buy the Star Trek DVDs. I've been watching Trek since TNG started when I was 4; and I have bought the 2-disc DVDs of the movies as they've come out, and those even sell for less than your average 2-disc DVD. However, I draw the line at the ludicrous prices of the season sets.

Besides, what will everyone who was dumb enough to buy every season of every series do when the shows are released in higher quality on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, or HVD after that? Shell out another $5k and buy them all over again? By buying those sets at such outrageous prices, fans are only justifying what Paramount is doing; attempting to exploit the "fanatic collector-mentaility" stereotype that so many people apply to Star Trek fans. The worst part is how many people seem to be proving those stereotypes right.

The Trek sets sell for at least 3 times (usually more) almost any other show here in Canada; at HMV you pay $159-170 for any given season of any Trek series. Can anyone here justify that in any conceivable way? I welcome an explanation. Sure, it has hour-long episodes as opposed to most shows half-hour. But even that can't account for the ridiculous increase in price. Most of HBO's shows are higher quality than any Trek, and at least an hour an episode; and those usually sell for less than half of what a season of Trek does.

As I've said; some shows are worth buying. But there seems to be some people who just go around buying every new show as it comes out, one after another, with no regard for how good it actually was, or whether it's even really worth owning in the first place; and the thought of all that wasted money really pisses me off; which is the reason for the rant.

I see what you mean. I buy a lot of TV shows on DVD and for me it is usually worth it. Some of my favourite shows like Buffy and The Simpsons I have stopped buying on DVD because they are on seven days a week and multiple times a day and I'm sure they will be for years to come. Family Guy is the same way althoguh when I started buying it on DVD it wasn't showing on TV.

You're complaining about the price and people wasting their money but you bought Transformers DVDs. To this day my Transformers season one set is still the most expensive sinle box set I have bought. :P ...but you say you keep the shows to a minimum.

Anyways I'm babbling but I don't see any big deal in it all. Sure it is a lot of money but some shows are a great comfort to watch over and over. What other people do with their money is no real concern of mine. I wouldn't get so worked up about it since there isn't really too much you can do.
