Books you want to see Disney make into a movie
Okay, wanted to start new thread on books that yall have read that Disney could make a good movie out of. FOr example, Holes was a book first and then Disney made a live-action out of it. (one of my favs). Princess Diaries came out of several books. Are there any that you think deserve the disney stamp of creativity on?

I was just thinking, they also did Tuck Everlasting into a nice film. Not my favorite, but still good.poco wrote:Okay, wanted to start new thread on books that yall have read that Disney could make a good movie out of. I can't think of any that I really want them to make, since they are making two of my favorites right now: Ella Enchanted and The Chronicles of Narnia. Actually, Walden Media is doing Chronicles, hopefully Disney will team up with them like they did with Holes. Oh, and Ella is Miramax.
I'll have to think and tell you later.

Check out http://www.narnia.com for the movie. It looks really good.
Now that I think about it, there is one book that I would like to see as a movie. I don't know if you've ever heard of "The Witch of Blackbird Pond", but I really love that book. It would be a great movie, I think.

Besides Narnia (which is a major given for me), I'd like to see Disney make live action films out of "The Dark is Rising" series by Susan Cooper. In my opinion, live action is the only way to do that series; I don't think it'd be as effective in animation. As for a book/story that does work in animation, I'd go with The Wizard of Oz. Yes, I realize that this has been done countless times, including the pretty much holy MGM film, but I think Disney should do an animated version that's closer to the book. The MGM film is actually quite different from the book aside from the basic plot.

I've never read the Dark is Rising - is it any good?
I forgot all about that! I would LOVE Disney to do the whole Oz series in animation. This could work as computer, I'd rather it be traditional. And there could also be all of the other non-Oz books by the same author (as they all tie in to the Oz books). I have almost all of them, except Sky Island. Still looking for it.Disneykid wrote:As for a book/story that does work in animation, I'd go with The Wizard of Oz. Dark is Rising is EXCELLENT. It's like a fantasy literary version of the Matrix in that there's an alternate reality and it can get quite confusing, so it requires multiple reads, which is why I think it'd be a mess as an animated film, but would work in live action. Basically, the story goes like this:
On his 11th birthday, Will Stanton discovers something very special about him-he's an "old one" (a wizard, and before you jump to conclusions, DiR came out decades before HP). The Old Ones live on earth, but also meet up and exist in an alternate reality, where there's also a dark force rising, led by the dangerous Red Bull. Will finds out he is not only only an Old One, but is the sign seeker-a collector of various charms that (temporarily) drive away the darkness. Once all 7 signs are collected, he can receive even more power than he currently has to stop the dark. There's 5 books in the series and (oddly enough) the actual Dark is Rising book is actually #2 in the series, and that's the story I just described for you. These are the books in the series:
1. Over Sea, Under Stone (the only non-fantasy book in the series. It's more of a mystery story, but the 3 leads of this book become vital later on).
2. The Dark is Rising (the book I gave a synopsis for)
3. Greenwitch (Will meets the Drew children from book 1 and they join forces).
4. The Grey King (Will meets Bran, an albino who's got a VERY interesting ancestry and destiny)
5. Silver on the Tree (all the children join for this one for one big finale)
Here's the amazon link to the books:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/series/-/20/paperback//ref=pd_ser_bind/104-1307121-6055914
Personally, if I were making the books into a full fledged movie series, I'd combine books 1 and 2 since Will is the main character yet he doesn't appear till book 2. Besides, book 1 is light enough to be interwoven with book 2.

I was just thinking that I'd like to see the rest of the Black Cauldron series done, one way or another.Captain Hook wrote:Hmm... David Eddings stuff might be a bit to mature for Disney animation or even their official live action division, but perhaps one of the other divisions (Miramax etc) could make a good go of it.
Actually, most of the books I'd love to see adapted couldn't be made by Disney, but that is the subject for another thread....

I think Maniac McGee and Moves Make the Man would both make good live-action films. (Though supposedly, Nickelodeon took a stab at the former, and it stunk. I haven't seen anything about it.)
And while I was skeptical of the idea - a friend convinced me that Disney could do an interesting animated adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I'm a big fan of the live-action adaptations - Tom and Huck, Adventures of Huck Finn - but I think an animated version of the former could be interesting.

here are a couple of books that Disney could make movies of:
Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis
Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan
The Black Pearl by Scott O'Dell
Chanticleer and the Fox by Geoffrey Chaucer
somehow i read on Animated-Movies.com about a Disney animated movie called Chanticleer that was going to be directed by Marc Davis but was canceled since Walt Disney didnt like the idea of the movie. somehow it would be great if Disney went back into the Archives files and look at some of the movies that were never made (Don Quixote, Antonius, ect) and maybe make movies out of them.

Definitely a live-action adaption of Julie Bertagna's "Exodus". Great potential for special effects.
Also, an animated version of Cameron Dokey's "The Storyteller's Daughter" could be cool. How about a live-action "Awake and Dreaming" by Kit Pearson?
Oh, and definitely a live-action "Angel of Mercy" by Lurlene McDaniel.

yeah i saw the Hallmark version of Sarh, Plain and Tall but i think Disney could do a better version of the movie. I saw a version of Tuck Everlasting that was released a long time ago before Disney's version came out. If Disney could it with Tuck Everlasting, they could probably do it with Sarah, Plain and Tall.

Perhaps, but I think that there are so many other movies to make, why remake it? I've never seen a remake I've liked better than the original.Uncle Remus wrote:yeah i saw the Hallmark version of Sarh, Plain and Tall but i think Disney could do a better version of the movie.
