Post your thoughts on the film, A/V quality, or bonus features of Bambi: Platinum Edition
In various topics on this forum, I wrote:As the DVD has been released in England two weeks earlier than in the US, I have the DVD on my hands and can comment on it in case you wanted to know about it before Luke posts his review.
The video of the movie is, as cliched as it sounds, really good. There were little signs of grain, dust etc and the colours looked vivid and fresh. I'm pretty sure that they fixed the vanishing racoon (the one that disappears on the little island after the fire), but apart from that, we don't have a Lion King job here. Oh, and they added restoration credits at the end.
I personally listened to the mono track, not the 5.1 mix, which is a better option for people with non-surround systems (like me ). In my opinion, it seems a bit better than the 5.1 mix, as the mono track was as the film was meant to be heard.
The extras is something I haven't totally tackled, but I'll give my opinion on the ones that I've seen so far. The Making of Bambi: A Prince is Born is very good. At times, it can seem a bit fluffy with animators saying "Bambi is the greatest movie ever ever ever!", but apart from that, it provides an excellent insight into the making of the movie. The Disney Time Capsule is also very interesting, as it provides a generally entertaining look at life and animation in 1942. The Original Theatrical Trailer is a nice inclusion, although Disney should really have included some more trailers from reissues like they did for Snow White and Alice in Wonderland. The Art of Bambi galleries are nice, although the character design ones past Bambi himself are a bit thin.
Overall, I think that this is going to be a great set, but not as good as Aladdin or Snow White platinums
Yeah, gotta find me some round velcro tabs somewhere.GOGOinVegas wrote:I only got to see the packaging so far, Its a gorgeous cover , but I HATE the fact that there is a blob of goop holding the slipcover door closed![]()
I guess I will have to install my own velcro tab thingy now on Disney DVD slipcovers.....Other than that I cant wait to see what will surely be a great restoration.

How come they choose not to? Is there a link or anything to that decision?RJKD23 wrote:NOOOO!!!Grunches wrote:Is there going to be a Bambi Collectors Gift Set?![]()

this has got to be the worst decision Disney made.
I mean if Aladdin was "first time on DVD" and received a gift set, shouldn't Bambi?!
And I'm telling you...that Thumper plush from Best Buy slightly makes up for not having a gift set.
i haven't bought my DVD yet, but wile at walmart i might just also pick up a pack of very small velcro patch to put on the slipcover.Christian wrote:That blob of goop thing is really annoying. I can't believe they would be so cheap. "Let's save two cents per DVD by not putting a Velcro fastener on it."I HATE the fact that there is a blob of goop holding the slipcover door closed
Probably poor sales of the previous ones. Or maybe they are taking the time to rethink it, so that they can make the darn book worth something.Grunches wrote:How come they choose not to? Is there a link or anything to that decision?RJKD23 wrote: NOOOO!!!![]()
