I have two bootleg copies of it on DVD. I think it's really good. If you were into So Dear To My Heart or Mary Poppins there's a pretty safe bet you'll enjoy SOTS. :thumb:

Among the ideas currently being knocked around is producing a special documentary that -- through use of clips from that TV movie version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" that Disney produced back in 1997 as well as sequences from "The Proud Family" & "That's So Raven" -- would demonstrate that a person's color really doesn't matter at the modern Walt Disney Company.
:headshake: I'm going to be sick! That crap better not be "forced".

If this story is true than it's a victory for freedom of speech. Hopefully it will lead to other studios releasing there classic Black stuff.

Video sales were down only because a year earlier they had the amazing 1-2 combo of Finding Nemo and Pirates of the Caribbean, not to mention The Lion King was the most popular Platinum Edition yet. Do they really expect releasing Song of the South to reverse that? I doubt it. But I do hope that the story is legit.

2006 is looking like a pretty good year for Disney DVDs, just going on previews/franchises.

March - Lady and the Tramp: Platinum Edition
Spring - Chicken Little
Summer - The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
Summer-ish - The Shaggy Dog remake (perhaps the first two movies too?)
October - The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition
November - Cars
December - Pirates of the Caribbean 2

And if this article is true, you'd have 8 DVDs to look forward to with us being 10 months away from the new year! Admittedly, we don't have a lot to go on with the five new movies, but they fall on the "would more like to see" end of the spectrum of, and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites.

I don't think it's boring... James Baskett is GREAT as Uncle Reums, so he alone is enough to keep the live action segments from dragging for me. Parts of it are a little slower, but the animated sequences are perfect. It's some of the best animation and comedy and character-driven work to come out of the studio at that time.

I got the video in London several years ago, and I just watched it again a couple of weeks ago. I don't believe that little kids would have much interest in anything but the animated parts, but overall I find the movie quite charming and likeable. Who cares what kids think? I like the Song of the South, and I really hope this news is true.

Yes, so they can maximise Xmas DVD sales, just like the Shrek films did.

My first reaction when I hear that Jim Hill has posted anything is "maybe it's true, maybe it isn't," because that's more or less his track record. I do hope this report is true, and I think it is. This is something we've somewhat expected for 2006 anyways.
I know that it's been a really rough winter so far. But who would have thought that Hell was gonna to freeze over?
Very funny.

Whoopi Goldberg on the SOTS DVD!! :D
I'm told that -- up until recently -- Bill Cosby was actually at the top of Disney's wish list. But now that Dr. Cosby has been accused of inappropriate behavior with several ladies ... Well, let's just say that Bill is no longer Mickey's top choice for this position.
Well if this is true, it's sad because Bill Cosby would be perfect. Maybe now that his accusers' accusations have been ruled groundless, that will change before 2006.

Probably just coincidence, but both Jim Hill and his source love the oddity of starting a sentence with "which is" :P

I'm happy to hear this news, but I'm still a little skeptical and I will be until an official announcement happens.

SOTS is not a great movie in my books, but it is a good movie with several great parts. I will definetely pick this up, as my taped Beta version is quickly dying.

I think several people here are going to be incredibly disappointed when they first see the movie though, as they'll be expecting something sensational because of all of the controversy and talk about what a great movie it is. Just my thoughts....
Cheers!

I remember that Sesame Street game - which one of these does not belong. Oh,oh,oh I know.......Its the Shaggy Dog remake.

As for a boring movie - depends on what you think is boring. If you really like car chases...well then it might be very exciting to you. It is not long enough to get boring though.

Aaron - you're right. Thats pretty bad grammar for two different people to use unless Hill was paraphrasing and not directly quoting.

Does anyone know this guys reliability rate? These unofficial 'SOTS on DVD in 2006!!' have been coming almost monthly from various sources ever since Einster announced he was stepping down. If this guy has a clean track record, I may take it with less granduals of salt. ;)

If it does come out, I will definitely buy this DVD. Sure, I've already got copies of it from a bootleg website that I thought was legit but now know that they're not. ;) . But I'll buy out the store to make sure it never gets shunned back into the vaults for eternity again. :)

If Disney is suffering financial problems, why doesn't someone suggest Disney afternoon boxsets? Bootlegs are constantly selling on eBay of such memorable shows as Ducktales, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, and Rescue Rangers.

Oh yeah, great news ! I have it on VHS but a DVD upgrade does certainly seem approprizte for such a masterpiece !

And that's true that SOTS has never been released on VHS in the US so some (most ?...) of you have never seen the picture.

Don't worry. You're not forced to believe it just because somebody wrote it.

I think the DVD is going to be released soon...
but I don't think that it will be like the article states,
and I in some ways doubt the authenticity of the source.
But I hope I'm wrong!

Well it sounds like the Mouse House are finally letting it out of the vault! Although in all honesty I'm not too surprised, I predicted that Europe at least would probably get a 60th anniversary release. The thing that worries me is that I personally don't feel we will get a really good DVD release full on bonus features like Snow White or Aladdin, I get the feeling much of it will be "putting it into perspective" stuff, just to keep people happy!

Also I think before you get all hyped up we should wait for confirmation from more than just Jim Hill!

Not until it's up for preorder can we be sure, and hey Disney haev had releases planned and then cancelled them at the last minute before! Look at So Dear to my Heart it's been waiting around for ages!
