"Walt Disney Co.'s summer kids blockbusters "Finding Nemo" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" have helped make the Hollywood studio the first to hit the one billion dollar mark at the box office.
Studio officials on Tuesday reported hitting the coveted one billion dollar mark in North American ticket receipts faster than any other year in the entertainment giant's history. "
.... The studio's animated fish flick "Nemo" -- made in conjunction with Pixar -- has become the year's highest-grossing movie overall, with 320 million dollars in ticket sales so far.
It remains in the US and Canadian top 10 after nearly three months in theatres and has seen its grosses drop a mere 12 percent last weekend.
And Johnny Depp (news)'s "Pirates" has become a surprise blockbuster with a shot at surpassing "The Matrix Reloaded" to become the summer's second-highest-grossing film.
It has earned 209.5 million dollars during one month of release and had a marginal drop-off of just 19 percent last weekend.
