I refuse to believe this! (Beauty and the Beast in 2012)

Post by Disney-Fan »

Disney.co.uk has just posted 2012 as the re-release year for Beauty and the Beast!! I thought the extra Platinums were there so they could sell more Platinums yearly, not postpone excisiting ones! Err this is so fustrating!!!

What are the chances of an earlier re-release? Could this be just a typing error?

No, the (original) idea for the Platinums was to have the 10 best films available for a very limited time each year, while the rest of the animated classics would be on the gold collection, constantly available. So, the rotation for Platinum titles would be every 10 years for each one. Of course, we all know that things change in 10 years, and they have already discontinued their "gold collection" idea, yet kept the plan for releasing platinum titles every year. Since there was 10 years between the first release of Beauty and the Beast and the second release (1992 and 2002), the year 2012 is probably correct for the next round.

Not everyone started collecting back in 2002 like you. Besides, as a buying customer it is my right to complain!

It might be out of date. The current schedule calls for every seven years. Fourteen platinums at two a year. Thus, we should be seeing Beauty and tHE Beast again in 2009.

B&B

Post by Owlzindabarn »

Let me ask you something: What are you really complaining about? I mean, really? B&B is still easily available. If you can't find it in a shop you can get it online from just about any vendor. I don't understand your rancor. Are you upset because the current release isn't good enough for the likes of you and you want a better one? Fine, then complain and wait 7 years.

Hu? To my understanding it is OOP... I'd be more than happy to find a place selling it! Amazon is selling but only used ones, at a ridiculous price of up to 75 pounds!
We're both talking about the PE one, right?

I thought Disney had the OOP platinums lined up for Blue Ray??? I can't imagine that being somewhere in 2012.

By that time Blue Ray has long been replaced by Megasupercalofragalisticexpealidocious-High-Definition chips that we insert into our home computers that take care of our Home theaters...shower, kitchen and Robot-maid.... at least if it's up to Bill gates that is

I think BatB will be released sooner. Disney has the tendancy to say lots of thing. Like Chicken Little being the first CGI disney film (wrong) or Dumbo II (where is it?) or Aladdin coming to Imax (still waiting in line)

Thank you Partik for a less aggressive (and quite a cheerful) response. :)

Okay lets do the math.

2005 - Bambi, Cinderella(which would be the 5th and 6th platinums)
2006 - Little Mermaid, Jungle Book(examples only as unannounce)
2007 - Lady and The Tramp, 101 Dalmations(that completes the original 10)
2008 - Fantasia, Peter Pan
2009 - the 13th and 14th - I cant remember what they were

2010 - start again with the original Platinum releases in HD-DVD - Snow White, Beauty and the Beast.

So based on the announced schedule and using a little bit of logic, Beauty and the Beast in October 2010. Start the countdown - its only 5.5 years.

Owl - I think Disney Fan is right - Beauty and the Beast is pretty hard to come by although not as hard as Snow White. I still see lots of Aladdin and the occaisional Lion King around but havent seen B&B in awhile.

Warner Bros is already releasing their titles on HD DVD this fall. You think Disney isn't gonna re-release their original 10 platinum titles as soon (or even earlier) as the last one in the platinum schedule is released? Their line up is weaker as we near the end and high profile re-releases of Snow White, Beauty and Lion King on Blue Ray aren't gonna be sitting on a shelve untill 2012. I simply find that really hard to believe. But that is my take on this  :P :)

OK the official word from BVHE UK is virtually the same as posted some moths ago:

2005
February - Bambi
October - Cinderella

2006
March - Lady and the Tramp
October - The Little Mermaid

2007
March - The Jungle Book
October - 101 Dalmatians

2008
March - Pinocchio
October - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

2009
March - Peter Pan
October - Beauty and the Beast

2010
October - The Lion King

2011
March - Fantasia
March - Fantasia 2000
October - Aladdin

It mentions if you click on it that BatB is 2009, this makes sense more becasue then the releases would be following the same pattern as the current platinums!

Note titles in red are merely my hypothesis, based upon the current platinum line up!

With most purchase decisions, you have to make a choice as to how much you are willing to pay for something and how fast you want it. It is no different for OOP DVDs. It is possible to find them online or in stores, but it may take time to find a great deal. It is up to each person to decide if owning the DVD right now is worth a little extra money.

In the case of Beauty and the Beast, it is pretty readily available for around 45 US dollars. If you do some hunting for a month or so (less if you're lucky), you will surely find a better deal than that. It is highly unlikely that it will take until 2009 or 2012 for you to find the deal you want.

Overall, I think the Disney DVD availability is pretty fair. The production windows are all around a year, so everyone who has been waiting for something to come out has ample time to pick it up. Limited availability has been a Disney strategy since the VHS days, and it will not change anytime soon. Not only does anticipation build until the next release date, but the company can conserve shelf space and attract more impulse buyers. The release plan can be frustrating for those who are just starting out, but in less than 10 years, anyone can have the best editions of all of the animated classics on their shelf.

I can't wait for it to be re-released so I can get a copy. It's not plentiful where I am and I can't simply buy it online since I have no credit card. I can't use a money order but I hear in the US some DVDs sites offer that, not here.

Anyways I'm going to try and search for a copy but for those who couldn't get it when it came out and don't want to pay a ton of money I hope it comes out sooner than later. :)

Well I sadly didn't get the recent Platnium Edition so I'll have to either wait for 2012 or try to find it on Ebay or something like that. :(

I doubt that Beauty and the Beast will see a rerelease that far ahead in years, but I would still say that eBay is your best bet, because you're looking at... quite a few years left of wait time, anyway.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

no.

I started late as you. So you should, like I did, look out on ebay, half.com, amazon for good deals. Check used dvd shops also (thats where I got my copy for $20).

I was VERY lucky when it came to my Platinums. I just started collecting them last Spring. I was able to find ONE Snow White and ONE Beauty and the Beast in my entire city. I also luckily found Sleeping Beauty on my trip to Disney World in the Summer. Finding Lion King was a cinch, we still have lots of those here and of course Aladdin came out that year and here comes Bambi! I hope you have good of luck as I did! Just keep looking!

Check ebay for just about any OOP Disney DVD. They are usually dirt cheap and often brand new.
