I would buy the upcoming R1 Sleeping Beauty, but wait for the Platinum Pinocchio and Peter Pan sets (that is if you're talking about the American discs - I doubt Europe will get improved Pinocchio or Peter Pan releases now)

Wait on Pinocchio, unless you absolutely must have it, like me. There was a rumoured Special Edtion Coming out next year, but since they added it to the
"platinum" section, I'm not sure if it still is in the works... There are a few other ones you might want to hold out on, since they also have rumoured re-releases, except better next year. Pochahontas and Alice in Wonderland...

someone correct me if I'm wrong..

Also when buying Fantasia I would buy the R1 3 disc set. I doubt they will ever improve on it and the R2 set is missing a lot of things.

Yes, be sure to get the Fantasia anthology (Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and Fantasia Legacy) along with the now out of print Ultimate Toy Box (Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Supplementary Features).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2292 <-- The Ultimate Toy Box for 48-50 bucks plus shipping, on eBay. Not that bad. I payed the same amount... look around, you might find one cheape...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=41527 <-- the Fantasia Anthology with a couple of days left for 22 bucks... It'll go up, but look at that...

I strongly suggest you get the Fantasia Anthology soon, because it really is a *collectors* gold mine! ;)

You seem to be able to get the Ultimate Toybox from AMAZON.CA (Canada) which works out quite cheap thanks to their exchange rate:

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004U9WR/

For some reason they are listing this as being released in April 2003?!? Perhaps it's not OOP in Canada? (Although other Canadian sites are listing it as a Special Order)

The Toybox is not out of print elsewhere in the world - you may be able to pick up a copy locally -

But I would advise against it, as like the Fantasia Anthology, the European/Australian discs are missing substantial supplements

I'd echo others who have recommended buying Sleeping Beauty but waiting on Pinocchio, and probably, Peter Pan, too.

Help!!!! Which Lion King Release Should I BUY???

Post by jayaraiza »

Which one??? I want the one that has the most to offer. I know Disneyland has a promo right now for Annual pass holders. Where if you preorder the Lion King at any Disneyland store then you can receive a Simba plushy and a commerative pin. I kinda wanna do this but i'm not sure which set to purchase. There seems to be like 3 diffrent packages. Any suggestions???? :?

Well, you need to ask yourself if the Box Set is worth an extra $20 for basically a commemorative Box and a Book. I love TLK...one of my all-time favorite Disney films. And I own every single 2-Disc Animated feature they've released (or 3-disc w/ Toy Story and Fantasia)...but I'm skipping the Lion King Box Set. Just not worth teh extra $20 to me when it appears as though all of the DVD features are the same.

The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie ever, so there's no way I'm going to pass on this...

...even if the additional bang-for-buck is questionable.

I'm still wondering which I should get as well. I'm leaning toward the regular 2 disc because I want to invest in the 4 treasures coming out a little later. Have to watch money...ouch

Definitely! I guess I would say stick with the 2-disc set so that it doesn't cost you tons of money... unless The Lion King is your #1 all top Disney animated-film. Then go with the box set. :) Oh, this is kind of off-topic, but how many of you guys are planning to buy Lion King 1 1/2 and 2 when they come out (and how many already bought 2?)?

I definitely will be getting them both. The Lion King 2 is perhaps my favorite sequel, and if I own 1 and 2, than I've just gotta have 1 1/2. ;)

Cool. I do remember seeing 2, it's been a long time though. I remember thinking, "Why in the world was this made in Widescreen if it didn't go to theaters?" I'll have to see 1 1/2 when it comes out, actually, I need to see them all again.

1. I'd go with the normal 2-disc: The boxed set doesn't really offer anything too substantial as the lithos are simply line renderings of the characters from the cover art and the book will most likely repeat information and art work found within in the bonus materials.

2. If you plan on buying Simba's Pride (TLK 2), I suggest you wait since there's a special edition of that coming out soon, plus the current DVD's OOP.

3. I'm extremely curious about 1 1/2 for one major reason: I keep hearing from various sources that the animation in this SURPASSES the original, which I find very hard to believe.

Lion King II is a fantastic sequel...one of the very few DTV films that, IMO, is almost as good as the original. In fact, my daughter only knows the "Lion King" through watching TLK II and it's one of her favorites.

Needless to say she is excited about the Original coming in October (we took her to The Disney Store and let her give the cashier the $$ for the preorder) and we will definitely purchase a SE of TLK II when it's available. Great film with an equally great soundtrack.
