Makeover for Looney Tunes characters

Post by Mr. Toad »

That is so bad, I don't even know where to begin. I am not mad so much as I am dumbfounded. Turning Looney Tunes into badly drawn anime. Yuck.

My local news covered this. They made a good point though. Look at Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie and look at him now. I do not doubt very old school Mickey fans at first didn't like the change, but now his look is very much accepted.

But that doesn't mean I don't hate the new Looney Tunes look all the same. WB sold out big time! I bet Chuck Jones, Mel Blanc, and the other great artists and actors would hate to see this now.

I am not sure I get the Mickey Mouse comparison. Mickey was improved with slight changes over the years. This is something totally different. It is not an attempt on improvement it is an attempt to cash in on the anime craze. I think even in anime they could have looked a lot better. They look really badly drawn. Then again, Warner Brothers had to cancel their plan to release their new theatrical shorts because they were so bad(they were eventually released as a companion to Looney Tunes V1. Gold Collection and sold very badly.

It appears that the change will only be for this one show, which I have a feeling will be quite short-lived. It doesn't look like the classic characters are gone for good. Perhaps that makes you feel better?

Well in my mind the characters are long gone at least in the way of attempting any decent new product and they have been dead for nearly 40 years since WB shut down the animation studio in 1966. Every attempt at resurrecting them has really been a commercial and artistic failure. But thanks to Warner Bros, Jerry Beck et.al. I have nice cleaned up versions to watch with the Golden Collections.

And I am really more dumbfounded than mad or sad. Why on earth do they think that would work?

If WB really wants to revive the Looney Tunes than they should air the classic shorts on TV again.

"Loonatics" looks promising to me.... I hope it becomes a hit for The WB Animaniacs, Tiny Toons Adventures and Pinky and the Brain were all hits for WB. Lately I seen Baby Looney Tunes and I really didn't enjoy watching it.

Duck Dodger in the 24th and a half century is the best thing keeping those characters alive right now, besides the great DVD sets. Speaking of DVDs, they should release a Duck Dodgers season 1 set.

This 'Lunatics' show might be okay but fans looking for anything related to the original characters probably won't like it. Maybe they should just make up all new characters?

Those designs are hideous and far too pointy. They could probably pop balloons with their faces.

I have an idea what WB should start doing with this money instead: start restoring the classics quicker!!!

As I've stated elsewhere, if you radically redesign the characters and mess with the character dynamics (i.e. making them happy innocent babies or giving them modern super-hero action powers), you'll get a bomb. A big, nasty bomb.

Wow... that looks pretty lame.

I don't know, maybe it'll find an audience.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

Hey, I know the character designs look lame, but at least WB are trying something new and trying to use these characters to find a new audience. I mean they brought back the classic toons for Back in Action and that didn't exactly set the scene alight!

Also this is only for this one TV show! It's not as if they are going to look this way forever!

At first I thought they were going to actually change the characters but that's not the case. Even tough they obviuosly are doing a remake on them, they will not be the original Looney Tunes, just another take on them. If that's the case then its fine with me.

By the way, my favorite character is Wile E. Coyote, am I to assume he's the green one?

.....

Ok, I just confirmed it. I'm actually glad to see they use him here. I didn't think he was that popular, and since his cartoons were Road Runner ones also I thought they were going to use him and leave his spot to either Sylvester or Tweety. How come they didn't include them? I'm no fan of them but I know they are more popular than Wile E. and RR.

By the way, shouldn't Buzz be gray? That way they can use that color on the new Tweety character in case he shows up.

Ps:

Lola Bunny in my opinion shouldn't be there. I mean, I know they're aiming her to girls but she's never been part of the show. She just appeared in Space Jam and now she's popular?

I've already discussed this in another forum so I don't feel like saying much except for this is horrible. :x I like what they have done with duck Dodgers and I think it's one of the most enjoyable new cartoons on TV today but this doesn't look very good. If anything it could be some wacky Halloween special with the original characters trying to stop their "evil" counterparts from running amok but even that's crazy.

I hope they one day revive their animated shorts... with people who care about them and put enough care into them so they can actually be released in theatres. :P

Some kids will love this I'm sure. I know a couple of kids who think the old Looney Tunes and Disney shorts are "baby stuff".
