That's why the lady is a tramp

Post by Owlzindabarn »

In the 1998 VHS release, there was at least one audio defect that I can recall getting some publicity. In the scene where the Aunt is singing badly, and Lady is wincing, the audio of the bad singing was left out due to a technician's mistake. I believe the audio made it into the subsequent DVD of the movie.

Luke: regarding the original aspect ratios, what was it for the old DVD? Was it pan-and-scan, Academy or Cinemascope? Or something bizarre and twisted that none of us knew about?

Like most of you, I really want The Little Mermaid asap. However, I agree that a fall release does make sense for it, though, so I'm willing to wait. Unlike Bambi, I'm very excited for Lady and the Tramp! I don't like it quite as much as LatT, but I find it to be a very warm, comfortable movie that I have fond memories of. It's a big-time classic, so royal treatment of those on DVD is always welcome, and I'm sure it will be as great as the other Platinums (save TLK).

As for its length, while it may not be shorter than many other ACs, it does feel quite a bit shorter to me, and I think that's to its benefit. The story is tight and compelling the entire way through and makes for a good movie to watch when you don't feel like spending a lot of time.

I once watched all of Lady and the Tramp- start to end- inside Tony's Town Square restaurant in WDW's Magic Kingdom while waiting for a table. More recently, when I was in the hospital LatT showed for free on the TV and I got to watch it then too- it's always a treat.

Disneykid wrote:Personally, I'm very happy with the decision. Even though I want The Little Mermaid first, I just can't see it as a Spring title. Disney's always released their biggest films in the fall (yes, Bambi's big, but Cinderella is undoubtedly bigger) so getting TLM in March would just feel odd. I like the theory about animal-centered films coming in the Spring and human-centered ones in the fall.

Now as for those Cinderella specs...::heads over to Cinderella DVD thread::
Yeah I agree completley with Disney Kid on this one. I cant see the TLM as a spring relase. I mean if we are alll really honest and had it our way we would have every Disney movie relased immediatley NOW and have the look spectacular, but pactience is a virtue I am sure when TLM does come out it will be awsome. And I am happy about seeing Lady and the Tramp as the next PE I used to have this movie in its orgianl VHS but with all the moving we have done it got lost :( and I was really sad. But now I can be :D casue its coming out almost a year from now.

Acording to this review from DVDLaser, the only bonus feature on the LD was a four-minute clip with composer Peggy Lee, extracted from a Disneyland TV show ("The Story of Dogs", I think).

That's the same clip they've got on the special WS VHS that I have....actually, it has a teensy bit more than that, but it's a really cool segment, as it shows her performing "The Siamese Cat Song". I have a live version of it that she did a number of years back...extremely cool!

Before I forget, here's the rundown on the mistakes in "Lady" that were mentioned before...just so happens there's a few websites devoted to this very subject!

LADY AND THE TRAMP
1. Jim places a newspaper sheet in front of the Lady's basket for the night. A few seconds later, when Lady tries to follow Jim and Darling upstairs to their sleeping room, the newspaper sheet is gone.

This is the blooper that I caught on the first '98 VHS release that was'nt on the limited WS edition I bought weeks later:
2. During the scene where Lady is describing her owner's odd behavior she lays her head on her front feet.  Right then, for a split second, there are light colored patches around her eyes that match the coloration on her muzzle and 'socks' on her feet.

This one's from a different site:
3.When Lady is running out of the pet shop after being muzzled, there is a macaw flying out with her. However, when Lady is running towards the exit in the pet shop, there is no sign of the macaw.

Pretty cool, huh? There's plenty more blooper trivia where these came from...take a look at the links below...believe me, it'll keep you out of trouble for HOURS!

I have never seen "Lady and the Tramp" in its original aspect ratio. I can't wait to see it finally! That's the only thing I want from L&T PE right now. I love Disney films in cinemascope.

I think we pretty much all agree that the little mermaid should be next. But no matter what, I think that they should take theirtime and not rush the rerelease. I think the best special edition that came out so far was the beauty and the beast which was really unbelievable! since then, it has been a little down the hill with less exras and simply less heart put into it. Though the lion king was pretty impressive too.
So if we waited so far, let's wait a little more and make it worth while.

I'm joining the Wanting Lady and the Tramp club, too. Actually, I want it as much as The Little Mermaid, but I'm personally scared that Disney will treat Ariel and chums like The Lion King. Yep, be prepared for Sebastian and Flounder's Virtual Under the Sea Party...

Oh, and welcome to the forums, Animator! Hopefully you'll stay a bit longer.

I agree. I love The Little Mermaid ( obviously) but I think they should take their time. I also agree Beauty and the Beast was a great DVD, but not a good as Snow White. The Lion King, was iffy. I didn't think it was bad, but getting lost trying to find bonus features is kind of sad.

Since Luke hasnt replied I will hehe :)

The old DVD was 2.35:1 Non- Anamorphic WS. It was the Cinemascope Version.

The VHS was the P&S. When L&T was first released it was made in both Cinemascope and Academy Ratios to accomodate Theaters that couldn't show widescreen films.

Let me just ask once again: why even bother spending time and money on a pan & scan version if the academy one was already available?

I was glad to have bought my DVD when I did. I got it at a used CD store several years back for about $20.
