I don't like the other covers for three reasons:
1) They are jumbled. Rather than focus on a single image, there are several to look at giving the artwork no focus point. Not every character from the movie needs to be on the cover.
2) The name plaque. I don't mind a name plaque but plopping it in the middle to juggle multiple images doesn't look good. I wish they would stop doing this.
3) The characters. In the newer artwork, Cinderella does not look like herself, nor does the prince. Cinderella looks more like Ariel & the prince looks like a transexual. Poor job by the artist.
The box I posted looks like a bootleg cause the artwork they chose for this potential cover comes from a movie poster that was printed in the 80's when Cinderella was last released in theaters. Bootleggers just pirated the poster art.
Anywho, if it were up to me, I'd create something new for the cover with fewer characters on it & a central focus on Cinderella and have her drawn to look like she does in the film.
That's just my opinion.

Would you care to draw her? To do up new artwork with her looking exactly as she did, is next to impossible, ask any artist out there. I do up MANY Disney drawings, and no matter how many times I draw a certain character, there is always something a little off about him/her/it. It is near impossible to replicate these older characters (Unless you have one of the original animators draw it)Son Of Flubber wrote: Anywho, if it were up to me, I'd create something new for the cover with fewer characters on it & a central focus on Cinderella and have her drawn to look like she does in the film.

I have & can draw her (only I do it without your snarky attitude)Jayden wrote:Would you care to draw her?
I did not say she has to look identical or exactly as she did, only look like herself. I know it's not easy to make her look EXACTLY like she did in the movie but it's not impossible, nor is it necessary. I only ask that the artist draw a character that looks at least reasonably similar and the Cinderella on those other covers just don't cut it.Jayden wrote:To do up new artwork with her looking exactly as she did, is next to impossible, ask any artist out there. Another character that seems to suffer alot is Tinkerbell. For some reason many artist struggle with her. It's a bit odd.
It makes me wonder about the talent of the current Disney artists.
I didn't merely decide to use that one - that's the cover that's showing up in the booklet inside Bambi. Admittedly, it's likely to change, and it may not even be entirely up to date (there's a bit of misinformation in the booklet, including an old National Treasure cover and date). I'll try getting a bigger version scanned sometime tomorrow, but I can't make any guarantees.
(Actually I did show the wrong one - it's not the glass slipper that's shown. Fixed now.)

I was confused for a sec there cause I remembered the 3rd cover (the above image) was used as a promo in the booklet that came with the Aladdin DVD. That's the cover I like most anyway, though it needs some tweaking.Luke wrote:I didn't merely decide to use that one - that's the cover that's showing up in the booklet inside Bambi. Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.
Oh well, we can't please absolutely everyone, can we? If everyone got who they wanted on the cover, well it'd be an absolute mess. While I agree that the Fairy Godmother is an important character, I don't think there's really any room left. Maybe she'll show up in some of the revisionssaving107 wrote:i'm fine with the cover, though the Fairy Godmother did make everything possible for Cinderella and she is not on the cover, i think she should be somehow added to the cover.
if she wasn't added then i still would be happy as it is.

It may not be about the talent necessarily, but the amount of time they are given to do these. I'm sure Disney does not devote a lot of time/money to the covers, as they're not exactly the main thing you are buying when you buy a DVD. Thus the artists, for all we know, may be given an incredibly short period of time in which to draw these characters and they're doing the best they can with the short amount of time.Son Of Flubber wrote:I have & can draw her (only I do it without your snarky attitude)Jayden wrote:Would you care to draw her?

I don't know if that's true or not, as I'm not a Disney artist, but I like to consider all possibilities before making any conclusions

I like that cover with the carriage on it. Sure it'd be nice to have the Godmother on the cover, but let's keep in mind that JOHN SMITH isn't on the Pocahontas cover while Nakoma is!!! This is the same deal, as the prince takes up a lot of room on the cover, but he is in some ways the focus of the movie, so I like it.
I think it's possible that the Fairy Godmother will show up on the back cover art. Most Disney covers have minor characters show up on the back cover (The Mad Hatter, Merryweather, Iago and Abu, Mushu and Crikee, etc.). I'm willing to bet the Fairy Godmother will follow suit.
As for the whole Cinderella/off-model thing, I agree that artists seem to struggle very much in depicting her. The image of her on most Princess merchandise doesn't resemble her movie counterpart very much at all. I'm hoping the final version will show her properly. At the very least, they need to get her hair and gown colors right (her hair's reddish brown, not blonde, and her gown's silver, not blue).

How dare you call The Mad Hatter a minor character! Wasn't he the main focus of Alice In Wonderland? The whole movie revolved around him, didn't it? Frankly, I'm disgusted that he wasn't on the front cover.Disneykid wrote:Most Disney covers have minor characters show up on the back cover (The Mad Hatter....
We now return you to your regularily scheduled discussion....
I think Disneykid is absolutely right, you'll probably see The Fairy Godmother on the back. I believe this to be true because while she plays an integral role, she doesn't have much screen time. So give the characters with the most screen time/most integral role (The Prince is the impetus for the whole story, and while he doesn't have much screen time, his part is the whole point of the story) the space on the cover, and relegate those who play an integral role, but not as integral (i.e. Iago, or Abu) or don't have much screen time (i.e. The Mad Hatter, or The Fairy Godmother) to the back cover so things aren't jumbled on the front.
Cheers!

Silvery white would be pretty awsome. maybe this spine will be holographic silver like the Mary Poppins cover.RJKD23 wrote:Why is there so much blue?
I thought her dress was a silvery white? (thinking back to what Disney made her dress in the CGI Disneyland commercial..).
Well, I find the cover to be okay..somewhat.
but the fairy godmother should be there..in the background!
Dolce fare niente...

Also, on the carrige, slipper, and dress-transformation covers, aren't her eyebrows suppose to be the same color as her hair, like Ariel or Belle?Disneykid wrote:I think it's possible that the Fairy Godmother will show up on the back cover art. Someone scanned the Cinderella advertisement of the "Bambi" booklet and posted it on DVD File's forum. You have to be registered to see the picture: http://forums.dvdfile.com/showthread.php?t=46678
There is already a trailer on the Classic Cartoon DVDs!Disneykid wrote:I'm positive we'll see the Cinderella cover change at least twice before we actually get it. Disney always uses VHS clipart as place-holders for the characters while an artist works on the final version. I expect we'll see a press release (and teaser trailer) for the DVD in March when Bambi comes out. Just for reference, here's what the laserdisc had (I've posted this several times before, but it doesn't hurt to post it again now that we have an official pre-press release Cinderella thread):

Just add a commentary track, make the galleries virtual (I'm still holding out hope for it to come back), and some sort of featurette on the film's affect on Disney's theme parks, and you've got what could possibly be the best Disney Platinum, topping even Snow White.
To those people who aren't registered with DVDFile, here's the cover as it appeared in Aladdin's DVD promo booklet (rb canadian posted it on the first page of this thread):

You can find the Brazilian trailer (which Joe linked to on another thread) here:

I have no idea how similar their trailer is to the U.S. one, though, but it's definitely classy.
