More Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest caps *LARGE*
I know this doesnt seem like sequel material but just the whole idea mixed with good fascination intrigues me and makes me die of curiousity
I mean, come on people. How do you think sequels get sold? because we're too damn curious as to how bad it is or what a cheap animator's idea of what happens after the movie looks like.
It's like reading an original story of an animated film in a golden book, ya know?

Disney had one thing on their mind when they made this movie: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I will probably buy this just to see it and will probably never watch it again. this movie is so unessesary. this is the kind of stuff that SNL spoofs about, and they did once! Disney is just adding gas to the fire.

In answer to this quote from a previous post: " The animators did a very good job of recreating the artistic style of the characters and environments, but after looking at maxeythecat's comparison it looks like the original had more detail."
You BET it did...ALL of that film was hand-rendered: backrounds, cels, EVERYTHING so of COURSE it's gonna have more detail!! A really well concieved, well crafted animated film can be compared to a work of art come to life... it has all the beauty and nuances of the most fantastic of masterpieces, only this one happens to give you the illusion of motion. To compare the animation coming from Disney studios back then and what we're subjected to now is like comparing the original Mona Lisa to a Photoshop copy of itself...you can scan it, revamp the color, dazzle and pixelate the hell out of the thing but no matter how wonderful you may think it looks, it's NOTHING when set side by side with the genuine article. BTW, this diatribe is not a critique of the Disneytoons animation department..I'm sure they're doing the best they can despite their limitations ( budget, skill, budget, experience, budget, Eisner and BUDGET) but I'm sorry it ain't enough to quiet down my displeasure. I mean fer chrissake, they already HAD the source material for a sequel, so what the hell are they doing by coming up with this "teen angst midquel" crap anyway?? Felix Salten wrote a perfectly good follow-up to the original "Bambi" and believe me, there's PLENTY of plot material there that Disney could've utilized and rendered into an infinitely better story. In fact, if they even wanted to go back to the first book, they could've gotten their "midquel" material from there as well! Can you imagine what could've been created if 21st Century Disney had the same dedication and far reaching vision that Walt had back in '42? With all those technical advances you brought up working along side the best theatrical animators in the biz and the right story, they could've easily created not only a worthy successor to "Bambi" but a masterpiece in it's own right.Even if they only had a SMIDGEN of that talent and desire that he had, they could've come up with probably the highest grossing film in their entire history.

First of all... this has been bothering me... these "cheapquels" really do not tamper with the original film, they mess with an overall idea of the characters, but that's about it. It seems to me that people are taking these movies too serisously, no one and nothing can take away from the brilliance of the original films, take cinderella II for example... it sucked but it wont effect the sales of the Cinderella PE at all. I think we all have to stop taking these direct-to-video sequels so serisously, for our own good, lol.
Second... it seems to me that the people working on the project are really trying hard, i mean you can't tell me that the whole studio is behind Eisner 100%. i really do not believe that eisner is really involved, i think he tells them what to do then gives a paycheck, and then no one argues bc their jobs are in danger, lol. maybe there will be a resistance right in the middle of Snow White sequil (you know he's gonna try it, the man is crazy!) i can see the headlines now..."Eisner brutally beaten to death by a mob of angry animators"...
Third... give it a chance, we cannot tell what the story will be yet. they change their minds all the time, and considering the forces at work the animation is turning out ok!
whether you agree or not, those are my thoughts right now!

You know, there's this novel idea that's been going around recently - you can even do it over the internet! It's called "renting" - you can go to a store with lots of different films available (in DVD or VHS) pick one out that you want to see, and then pay a nominal fee to bring it home for a few days and have a chance to watch it!toonaspie wrote:I mean, come on people. Seriously, people. Why spend 20 bucks on something that you're skeptical about and "probably will never watch again" - it defies logic. If you buy it, you're only supporting the production of more cheapquels, since you gave Disney all that it wanted from the deal.

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

That's what I say. I think the only cheapquels I have ever purchased were the Lion King ones. All the other ones I rented or never bothered to watch by any method. I guess I did buy Stitch! The Movie. And I bought Return of Jafar, but that's the movie that taught me that I better not buy anymore cheapquels sight unseen.
sequels: some people like them, some people don't.
but do we really need to know if you're gonna buy it or rent it or even know how many "bad" sequels there are released by Disney?

anways..I'm glad this sequel is similar to the original Bambi! I'll probably purchase it the first week it comes out mainly because I like collecting Disney DVDs...

thanks for the pictures!

No, it's just funny when some people feel compelled to buy them and then complain that Disney is just after their money. You can still watch them by renting them. That way Disney isn't getting nearly as much money from you. I've even checked a couple out from my library and that is cheaper too. And several I have never watched at all. But I don't feel compelled to watch any of them.do we really need to know if you're gonna buy it or rent it or even know how many "bad" sequels there are released by Disney?
That might be impossible, since it's currently scheduled to come in early 2006.Prince Eric wrote:So far, this looks to be the only sequal I will DEFINATELY be buying this year.

I think out of the sequals it is on of the better looking ones overall, but I'm not excited about this one. Another thing that worries me are the voices. Getting the same sound as the original Bambi, Thumper, Friend Owl, and Great Prince is a task. How quickly bad voice casting can ruin it for me. Like Captain Hook. You could tell it was someone trying to sound like the original. It is disappointing.
My favorite character out of that movie was the Great Prince. If they ruin him in anyway, I shall hate Disney for it. I always thought he was the best father figure they had. Mufasa was right behind him. Mufasa was beautiful. Full of respect, but essentially, soft and dopey when it came down to it. The Great Prince never faltered from this regal look. He was cold and caring all at the same time. When Bambi was shot, it wasn't, "You can do it, come on!", it was "Get up!". An order, but something to his voice didn't make you dislike him for it. He was so full of mystery, but you knew he loved Bambi. That he did everything for him after his mother died. So the shots of him teaching Bambi how to fight better not turn into some cutesy playfight. Least on the Great Prince's side.
Also, I don't have the option to rent the cheapquals much. I have a 6 year old daughter. Buying them is like mandantory. All because you know the movie is safe for them to watch, plus cheap, and no matter how much I hate it, she'll love it. Truth be known, the more a parent hates something, the more the kids love it. Like Barney

Actually, when you speak of the backgrounds, there were a lot of them in the orginal Bambi that didn't have a lot of detail. They were stylized to suggest a lot of detail. There's not enough screencaps out for me to make any real comparisons, so I'm gonna wait until I see the whole film for myself before I make any.
Ah, yes, SNL's "Bambi 2000" is a riot! David Spade as the sassy new voice of Thumper! Bambi's mother is not dead; "It's just a flesh wound, son." Bambi dodging bullets a la "The Matrix." To be locked away in the Disney vault right after the release, never to be heard of again, so buy it before it's gone!

SG>LOL! I remember in Animaniacs with the squirrel who went to see "Bumbi" and Bumbi's mom was shot and all he did was scream and cry, "BUMBI'S MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". So Slappy Squirrel took him to meet the deer who played Bumbi's mom. She lived in a trailer park and he started screaming, "That's not Bumbi's mom!!!" and just when they convinced him and calmed him down, he saw the movie "Old Yellow". lmao
Ah, that one's a classic! I miss that show.Siren wrote:SG>LOL! Bambi: watching it as a child either makes you lose your innocence or scars you for life, LOL!

Actually Rudyard Kipling wrote the Jungle Book . You quoted Walt Disney as the author.
