Disney Anniversary
Hi guys, I know I haven't been on lately, but school just started here last Thursday and I have been REAALLY busy! (Espcially since I didn't read two books over the summer like I was supposed to), but I couldn't pass up an anniversary. Today is the 61st Birthday of Bambi! Personally, I think Disney missed their opprotunity with a 60th Anniversary Platinum, but of course, that would have meant Beauty and the Beast wasn't out yet, and I don't think I could handle that! Let's hope they don't wait to do a 65th Anniversary DVD!
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

I think Disnsy should do their own version of Bambi Vs Godzilla. But of course they can't use Godzilla can they?...
How about Bambi vs Chernabog?

I dont think anyone owns the rights to Godzilla. Hes likely in the public domain along with King Kong and all the other cheesy 1930's stop-motion monsters.2099net wrote:I think Disnsy should do their own version of Bambi Vs Godzilla. But of course they can't use Godzilla can they?...

Oh no. Toho own Godzilla as Maerj says, and let me add they are fanatical about controlling their Godzilla property. Remember on the Monsters, Inc. commentary they state that they couldn't even get the rights for a Godzilla roar for their giant monster joke when Mike and Sully are walking to work.STASHONE wrote:I dont think anyone owns the rights to Godzilla. Ever wonder why the UK and US don't get the Oringal Japanese soundtracks and cuts of any of the Godzilla movies available for sale? It's because Toho will only licence out dubbed versions to non-Japanese countries, as they are worried the Japanese will import US or UK discs, as they are typically cheaper then Japanese DVDs.

So, I guess we won't ever see the original Japanese cut of the first Godzilla movie then, huh? That's too bad. What did Toho say when the idea was proposed for the Godzilla movie made by those guys who did Independence Day? I think that I am one of the few people who actually enjoyed that movie! Or at least one of the few who will admit it.

The official story is they they were excited by the vision the American studio presented to them when asking for the licence. I suspect the real story is they thought of all the money - after all lots of promises were made by Columbia/Sony regarding the success of the movie. So if that was the reason I don't blame them.Maerj wrote: So, I guess we won't ever see the original Japanese cut of the first Godzilla movie then, huh? That's too bad. Still I rather enjoy it too. People can cite plotholes left, right and centre but it doesn't take away from the fact that Godzilla (USA) was a fun movie with a giant lizard trashing New York. Logic was never going to be a factor in the film.
That said, I don't think it had the 'feel' of a Godzilla movie. They seems to be making a hybrid of Godzilla and Jurassic Park. I'm upset a sequel will never be made - I really want to see Godzilla (USA) in a stand-up, knock-down fight with another monster (Imagine a CGI Mecha-Godzilla or King Ghidorah - KG especially would be awesome.)

I heartily agree with you there! Or a Jurassic Park/Godzilla cross over movie might be fun. I'd love to direct that!! I would have them eat as many people as possible, blow up half the planet... it would be magnificent! Moohahahahaaa!2099net wrote:The official story is they they were excited by the vision the American studio presented to them when asking for the licence.
