Phantom of the Opera DVD

Since it was the big Star of the UD Movie Awards, I thought people would like to hear about the DVD.

Region 1 Out May 3rd. I do really like that cover. :D
2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen along with both English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks.

I hope the Region 2 is announced soon, It did come out a month before the US so I hope its earlier and soon, I didn't see it at the cinema but I've heard good things so I will buy this.

Hey look, I see my comments on that site. :)

Anyways I think that's a poor release... one darn disc. It may be loaded with good stuff but you'd think a movie like that would have a nice two disc set. Maybe they are waiting for the HD release to put on some meaty bonus features to encourage people to move away from DVDs. :P

DVDTimes say it is rumoured for May in the UK too. Sadly, it will be distributed by Entertainment In Video. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Entertainment suck.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

The Winner of 6 UD Movie Awards to coming to DVD! :thumb:

I'm very excited for the release, but I was SURE it would get 2 discs. Also, the cover isn't too great. I liked the original poster better, with the Phantom being in the shadows, and the rose/mask image at the bottom looks soooo tacked on. Maybe its just cause I'm used to looking at the poster.

May 3 is going to be an expensive day. :roll:

I've just looked at their rumoured release dates apparantly its TBC April 2005.

I for one can't wait.

I saw this only once in theatres and strangely enough, I found myself enjoying it after the initial viewing.

I was considering buying this movie, even though I dislike it, to support a dying genre - the movie musical. However, the poor disc contest had dissuaded me. This seemed like a release that would have had a 2-Disc Special Edition (with equally tacky/gaudy slipcover to match the production values), but I guess not. :roll:

On a sidenote, anyone who wants to see a real musical, go out this weekend and watch Bride & Prejudice. It's handsome production values (and people) are sure to make anyone sigh with awe, the music is downright infectious, and the dance numbers are nicely done, not like the atrocious masquerade sequence. Oh, yeah, and this movie is adapted from a high art source material, not some ghastly stage show for New York tourists. Help get keep Bride & Prejudice alive to claim a Golden Globe nomination for Best MUSICAL/Comedy!

Not saying that The Phantom of the Opera is the greatest work of art ever written, but I think you do it a great injustice, just for the sake of being critical of something. Aren't Bollywood productions in general thought of as "ghastly" stage show spectacles? Just because it originated in India rather than America doesn't necessarily make it better. Oh, and <i>The Phantom of the Opera</i> premiered in London, not New York, as you seem to assume. But you know everything, no? :roll:

OOH! I want to see Bride & Prejudice so bad! I love Bollywood flicks, and add music! It looks awesome...But I luurve Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera so that is DEFINATLEY a buy...

Bollywood movies are a lot of fun. I saw one that had comedy, romance, musical, drama, action, adventure, thriller all wrapped into one four hour movie. Now that's what I call entertainment!

I want to see 'Bride & Prejudice' oh so badly...

It originated in London, but it's currently the longest-running show on Broadway, a major injustice considering there are other more worthy plays/musicals out there. I'm frustrated because there are myriads of playwrights trying to get into Phantom's theater, but the thing never closes! There are actually PULITZER PRIZE winners who are constantly pushed aside by Andrew Loyd Webber's mega musicals and it's upsetting for people who actually want to see good theater.

As far a Bollywood, you have to understand Indian culture. How could anyone think their ghastly stage show spectiacles if they're movies and not stage shows? You have to understand Indian culture to understand them, and that's why I'm glad that Lisa Shwartbaum from Entertainment Weekly and other great critics have such open minds about things. Can I judge The Phantom of the Opera? Yes. Why? Not only have I seen the play and the movie, I've seen many other stage musicals.

Oh, and just because something is AMERICAN/BRITISH/WESTERN, doesn't mean it's always better. :wink:

Hm...

I was thinking of blind-buying Phantom, but I think I might want to see how the extras fare.

For all I know, it could be a single-disc DVD with quality extras.

I find your tone very irritating. You tend to state your opinion as if it is the end-all-be-all judgement, as if your viewpoint is the most important one. I make it a point to be open to other people's opinions, but in your case, I can't stand to be, because your behavior comes across as being so arrogant.

Well first National Treasure, then Lemony Snicket(which just got moved a week up) but what else besides NT and POTO?

Ah, yes... I'm not really into the catalog titles except for the stuff from 1970-now, so I'll probably get NT, POOT and P: 10AE on that day.

EDIT: I mean POTO. d'oh

I loved this film. Its only flaw was that the Phantom was a complete miscast. He needed to be a LOT scarier to be passed off as a creepy, ugly, deformed guy living under a building not having seen the light of day for about 20 years. His voice was also weak. I still love the movie though. Wonderful music.
