poor TENG
"I know our films don't stack up against Atlantis or The Emperor's New Groove or Treasure Planet."
i feel sad for TENG. i think it's the closest resemblance from disney to a pixar style movie. a film that would've worked well in 2d or 3d form.

Hey
Why are you feeling so sorry for The Emperor's New Groove, it is one of my personal favorite Disney Animated Classics.

I agree 100%. It just had the bad luck of (just like Lilo and Stitch) being made in a time when all Disney can churn out are mediocre movies. TENG is definitely up there with Disney and even Pixars best. All he did, was mention the 3 biggest Box Office failures Disney made in the last few years. In the case of Atlantis and TP, well they couldn't really compete with Pixar, but TENG sure can. But that is just my opinion.

I wouldn't call The Emperor's New Groove a failure it did way better at the box office then The Black Cauldron, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Home on the Range and Treasure Planet.
The Emperor's New Groove made $89,302,687 (U.S. Domestic) and $169,327,687 (Worldwide).

I can't believe I am about to say the following but here goes, I think Michael Eisner's statement was right! For me personally I don't think humand quite work in CGI. There's just something about them puts me off!
I think this remark was pathetic and childish. I think he was only saying this as a retalliation to Michael Eisner. I could not agree more completely, I have said it before, but I will say it again, it is my personal belief that Disney have not made one bad movie during the 2000s. Whereas I was majorly disappointed by Monsters INC and The Incredibles, and I would rate TENG, HOTR, Atlantis and TP above them any day!

I am sorry ichabod, but I must disagree whole heartedly. While you are entitled to your opinion on the look of humans in CGI (They usually look a little off, but then again so do humans in normal animation, it's just a matter of getting used to the style and liking it), I must say that your comments on the comment made by the Pixar CEO are very one sided.ichabod wrote:I can't believe I am about to say the following but here goes, I think Michael Eisner's statement was right! While you acknowledge that the comment made by Jobs was incredibly childish and pathetic, you don't acknowledge that the comment by Eisner was even more so. Jobs was retaliating, a standard human thing to do, while Eisner was the provoking force in this battle. It is highly unlikely that Jobs would have said these things without provocation from Eisner.
The one who is being childish and pathetic is really Michael Eisner. He can't seem to let this alliance end peacefully. Why should he be upset? The Pixar partnership brought in a ton of money for Disney, with those films being the top grossing in Disney's recent years (in terms of at the animated box office) and the quality has been consistently high. I think that Eisner is just terribly upset, because he's loosing a great moneymaker, and he doesn't want another company to reep the benefits.
Cheers!

Even IF Michael Eisner was provoking, I don't think it's really necessary for Jobs to even attack back... Jobs was actually a lot more "hurting" than Eisner, because Eisner only said something in general where they can work on. Jobs attacked about 3 FINISHED movies where they can not work on in the future... And btw, since when can't someone have an opinion about something? I mean, sheesh... Not because they're the CEO's of 2 big animation companies they should forget all about their opinions or something
They were both in error if you really are looking for someone to blame. They are 2 totally different personalities and that's the way it will always be... Eisner has his opinions and Jobs has his... Live with it!

Domesticaly Atlantis did not do much worse. Atlantis made $84,056,472 (US Domestic). Worldwide Atlantis did better making $186,053,725 (Worldwide)MickeyMousePal wrote:I wouldn't call The Emperor's New Groove a failure it did way better at the box office then , Atlantis: The Lost Empire

It is also a little unfair to compare The Black Cauldron to the other since there were many less theaters when The Black Cauldron came out and there has been inflation.

i think eisner is to blame.he started the 'catfight'. but jobs was probably being a bit high nosed when making that remark.
in comparison to PDI, i think pixar's human animation is more succesful in achieving the flexibility of motion and caricature expression. PDI's look more plastic. at least jobs and co brought profit to the company. what has eisner done in the past ten years? one bad decision after another. still it was a slap on the face for disney.

Eisner's been very successful at bringing Profit to Disney. You people all seem to ignore that. There was a blip on the profit radar after September 11th and Park Attendences dropping (which you can hardly blame Eisner for) and the ABC purchase caused some financial problems for a while. And EuroDisney isn't doing to well. But overall, Eisner has made Disney as a overall company very profitable. The last quarterly report before this one had record returns per share. And it doesn't matter if some of that profit has come from Pixar. Don't forget it was Disney and Eisner who saw the potential of the company (and the CGI technique) long before any other company. The great bearded one (aka George Lucas) even sold Pixar off because he couldn't see the potential! (personally, I'm amazed he didn't just fold it into ILM being as he was experimenting with CGI effects at the time).akhenaten wrote:i think eisner is to blame.he started the 'catfight'. but jobs was probably being a bit high nosed when making that remark.

i agree with u on that 2099net. but i still cant forgive the company for the 'demise' of traditional animation.hehe.
anyway, TENG is one of the later films that seems to b remembered by the average audience. my friends who think that all disney outputs post lion king sucked loved TENG to death. they're absolutely crazy about yzma. (and stitch especially)

Both comments are kind of silly. Anyone who has seen The Incredibles will think that to call Pixar's animation of humans "pretty pathetic" is pretty ridiculous. Then again, we're not getting the quote in context. It could be pretty benign. Jobs' sarcastic comment is more difficult to dispute. You'd have to look pretty hard to find people who think that Disney's films from 1995 to the present have been on par with Pixar. (Then again, you'll surely find some people who think that here!)
Anyway, lumping in Emperor's New Groove with the other two isn't really fair. That movie has great spirit and it has found an audience on home video. Mentioning Home on the Range would have equalled a bigger and better 'burn.'

That's not true... You can always go back to the place you got the mud from and put it back again!
Eisner and Jobs should do just that and forget all their fights OR Jobs can just continue to scare Disney fans around the world with his "We're going to leave" messages and just wait untill Eisner is gone next year and come back.

I don't know if you'll ever see Pixar back with Disney in the near future, as there seems to be no love lost between the two. I don't know, maybe I'm being a bit doomsday about it all, but I would be surprised to hear about them getting back together after all this nonsense (after all, that's what it is really)Jens wrote:That's not true... Bah, in my opinion, both Eisner and Jobs are "pretty pathetic" themselves. Stooping to shooting remarks back and forth, as they have been, is just bad business and lowers my opinion of both of them. Besides, neither one really should be speaking on behalf of whatever quality their animators put out, as neither of them are really responsible for that level of quality.

Rather childish (and at the same time funny
) of them both to make jibes at each other like that.
It took me a while before I figured out what was being said in this thread... The first comment about Treasure Planet and TENG and whatnot just seemed so random to me.
