HOLES!!! Very Good movie
HOLES!!! Very Good movie
I went and saw Holes last night and did not anticipate it to be nearly as good as it was. I have not read the book but being the sucker that I am for a Disney movie went to go see it last night, and was surprised to see the theater was packed evan for being a late movie. But from the very begining to the end of the movie totally enjoyed it. It was one of the better movies I have seen in the theater for quite some time. And would reccomend to all of you.

I haven't read the book and am actually going to go try to see the movie. I don't get much time off-call from work and hopefully I can see it sometime this week and comment. From what they have put on TV it sounds very interesting!

I had no idea how popular these books are. My husband & I went to see Anger Management Friday afternoon only to find that theater taken over by Holes. Edwards Theaters decided to take switch one Anger Management screen & show Holes instead due to incredible demand

Hummmm. I know nothing about "Holes" - it's not released in the UK yet and for some reason it's not been promoted in the UK film magazines... I suppose this means a UK release is way off (as is common with these things the R1 DVD will probably be available before the UK cinematic release happens).
I've given myself a quick education thanks to www.imdb.com and it certainly looks like something to keep any eye out for when it's available on DVD (anything with Sigourney Weaver gets my vote

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
Anger Management was pretty darn funny. I recommend checking it out before it hits DVD.

It should vary from theater to theater, but when I saw it I got Lizzie McGuire, Pirates of the Carribbean, Whale Rider, Daddy Day Care, and Rugrats Go Wild.Choco Bear wrote:what were the trailers before the movie
I love the book and am pleased to report that the movie is extremely faithful to the material while (in my opinion) being explanatory enough for someone who hasn't read the book to understand what's going on and get engaged in the story. A very cool movie.
Oh, and, a tip for anyone who hasn't seen it yet: Do NOT leave the theater after the credits start to roll; there's a rather funny suprise at the end of them.

Saw it tonight after work - I work in a theatre anyway, so I can see stuff for free - and it was only a stone's throw away!
Anyways, very good film. I highly recommend it. I too had never heard of the book before - and I'm usually in the loop about this stuff. *shrug* It's very intelligent family entertainment - and that's a rare delicacy in film these days, for sure.
Even the Harry Potter flicks pale a bit in comparison - and you're hearing this from a big HP fan, too.
What I find incredible is that this is from the author of dozens of young readers books - including probably his most well-known, the "Wayside School" series - who'd never written a screenplay in his life. It's also from the director of The Fugitive, who has never done a family film before. I'd say it was a very successful first for both of them!! LOL
Yes, Holes definitely deserves all the critical praise it's getting, for sure. The only dissent I've been hearing is that the interwoven plotlines are confusing, but I had no trouble at all keeping up, myself. I found the backstories quite interesting, actually - Kissin' Kate's story was especially sad, I thought. *sniff*
Another great feature of the film is the soundtrack. Everything from urban music to O Brother, Where Art Thou?-esque tunes play in the background throughout, and it definitely augmented the atmosphere. I may even buy the CD - I was so taken. Hehe...
So all in all, I watched it for free, but I would've been very satisfied even if I'd paid $7 for it.
Jake - Aww, there was a stinger? Dang - missed it. I had a feeling there might've been something - but I was impressed by all the beautiful cinematography that runs with the credits, anyway.
CB - The trailers I saw were for Johnny English (I wanna see that!! Go Bean!!), Daddy Day Care, Lizzie McGuire, and How to Deal. Okay, remind me how HtD is different from A Walk to Remember, again?
. Oy, vay. I was hoping to see the latest Pirates trailer, but no luck. >:p
PB - I've heard a bit about Whale Rider. It's a Kiwi flick about a Maori tribe that has lost their next leader at birth, and have issues with letting his twin sister try to prove herself as a viable chief (the classic gender-challenging theme). The title comes from the tradition of the tribe leaders riding on the backs of whales, due to an ancestral tale that the tribe's founder escaped death when his boat capsized by riding a whale back to shore. So this girl Pai, with her mother dead and her father fled, has to prove to herself and her tribe that she can ride the whales, and become their leader, too. It's coming out on June 6th in NY and LA, and probably into a few hundred independent film theatres after that. The official website is here, if you wanna check it out.

The suprise was a little scene spoofing a scene from the movie. Hector (I think it was Hector) looked into a crystal ball and said "But if you forget to come back for Madame Zeroni, you and your family will be cursed for always and eternity.

Holes is a TERRIFIC FILM!!! TRULY FANTASTIC!!!
I for one am a fan of the popular book and am extremely happy that Disney picked this project since they did such an excellent job with staying with the story. I just got back from seeing it the second time...yes...it's that good. Maybe Disney is FIIIIINNALY crawling out of their hole (seriously no pun intended
)! With great casting, an excellent soundtrack, and an exciting "Pirates" trailer, this is a definite yes to see on the big screen.
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?
I got shut out yesterday in a weekday afternoon showing.
(Guess a lot of kids are off from school this week too.)
So, I saw Anger Management instead, which was kind of disappointing. I'm a big Sandler fan, and I don't think it compares with his funniest stuff.
I still plan on seeing Holes soon, though.

I saw Anger Management also instead of Holes, the theater was like a playground for kids inside, climbing everywhere.....geez
Anyway, i thought A. Management was alright. It definitly was better than little nicky
....
But i can't wait to see holes, i've read some of his books like "tales from wayside story". I loved those crazy books... If only i can get my macho boyfriend to see it with me
