Future Disney Treasures?

I came across a few websites with episode lists for the Disneyland TV series (aka The Wonderful World of Disney, etc). I'm sure some of you know of these sites already.

Looking through the Disneyland episode guide, it seems most of the episodes were compilations of cartoon shorts, True-Life Adventures, People and Places, etc or full-length feature movies cut down to an hour or aired in two parts. A lot of the Walt-era original material has already been released on DVD, i.e. Disneyland USA, Davey Crocket, Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studios, and Tommorland. Other episodes are included on the Vault Disney DVDs (Best Doggoned Dog in the World on Old Yeller, for example). There's also the Magic episode on Sword in the Stone.

As for Zorro, with there being 82 episodes at about 25 minutes each, that's about 34 hours of material. I think something like that would be too big for the Walt Disney Treasures series. If it is released, I'd expect it to be in season sets like the French release (although it only really being 2 seasons plus 4 more episodes, it could be released as a complete series).

I personally would like to see the True-Life Adventures shorts and features as well as the People and Places shorts be released. Last night I watched the "Best Doggoned Dog in the World" feature on Old Yeller to see the "Arizona Sheepdog" People and Places short. It was interesting (especially since it comes from my part of the world), but it would be a lot nicer to watch it in color. There was one comment in the narrative about some Navajo Indians playing cards and "having already spent their profits before they've earned them" that some might be offended by. I wonder if there are more negative stereotypes like this in the other films in the series. (I can't imagine there are too many negative stereotypes in the True-Life Adventure series though, considering how they're mostly just animals--PETA people might be offended though.)

Also watched the short Song of the South clip on Disneyland USA. I can definitely see how that movie would be offensive to some. But for historical purposes, I'd sure love to have it for my collection.

Mostly notably, Mickey's Mechanical House narrated by John Cleese and Goofy's How to Haunt a House. While I suppose they weren't theatrical shorts, they could've appeared as bonus features.

Probably could have been done, but I think it's fair enough that the Treasures are limited to classic and theatrical material.

I haven't seen much of the more recent made-for-TV materials with the "gang", but if much of is good I hope we'll see them on DVD eventually.

I haven't come across any on my Treasures sets. The newest one is the theatrical "The Runaway Brain" from 1995 on Mickey Mouse In Living Colour Volume 2. Will there be any? Doubtful, as the Treasures line seems to be restricting itself to classic material. House of Mouse will probably get it's own DVD release somewhere down the line. Is House of Villains any good? I'm probably going to rent it during my Reading Week, but is it worth my money?

I'm about to stick my neck out and make a prediction for wave 5 of Walt Disney
Treasures (and at the same time, I will make a prediction on what will be the
next sets for the Treasures for Australia in the International DVD forum)

Here is what I think will appear in the next wave...

The Chronological Donald Volume 2
Assorted Treasures
True-Life Adventures (both were originally predicted for wave 4)
Silly Symphonies Volume 2

At least, we will know by August what will be released.

Really looking forward to the next wave myself, having missed out on 2
previous waves. The "Assorted Treasures" set sounds interesting, and I would
definitely pick up Silly Symphonies Volume 2 (Even though I'm missing volume
1, but I am in the process of trying to negotiate with my local blockbuster
to put their for rent copy up for sale, lol). Chronological Donald 2 I would
pick up the first day (I don't have Volume 1 yet, but I have it on hold at CD
Warehouse until I can afford it. They're really nice and will hold it as long
as I want them to). Though, I'm hoping Complete Pluto Volume 2 will be in
there (again, I don't have the first, but know where to get it and will get
it as soon as I can afford it) as that would completethe Pluto shorts. Maybe
replace True-Life adventures (which I don't have much interest in) with CP2?
That would make a perfect line-up (and a very expensive December! )

I guess that prediction is as good as any. The few remaining cartoon
collections are obvious. I'd guess, though, that we'd get only two cartoon
sets, not three, in the next wave. Got to save something for another couple
of years...

A set of True-Life Adventures was "officially rumoured" for wave two already,
as far as I can remember. So it'd be about time.

I wouldn't mind a set of week two of the Mickey Mouse Club.

I don't know much about the True Life Adventure series, but my impression is
that there were many of them. If so, what 3-5 hours of material would they
choose?

I'd like the Chronological Donald 2, Assort. Treasures, and more Mickey Mouse
Club (1950s).

Would Disney use the Treasures platform for releasing "Song of the South?" I
think it's been talked of on the Forum already.

Some people suggest that a Treasures set could consist of all of the shorts, but that's only a guess as far as I know.

I'd be VERY interested in getting the True Life Adventures and the Assorted Treasures if they get around to releasing those. I loved the True Life Adventures when I was a kid... the personified animals more than just a typical documentary. The animals they feautred became characters, and I think those things are responsible for a lot of my love of animals. I wish they'd make a lot more of these "Treasures" sets. It's great stuff to have.

That would be an extremely solid set. A complete Silly Symphonies would be GREAT! The Donalds need to be released since there's so many. True Life Adventures is a given for the live action requisite. The assorted treasures could wait, but I wouldn't mind having it before Pluto Volume 2, etc. I'm sure people would like to see Humphery Bear, Chip 'N Dale, and the rest.

Wow - pretty early for an announcement concerning the next wave. Confirmation, anyone?? Luke?? Was this posted online anywhere else? Got a link? Wonder if this would be cartoon heros or live action heroes (Elfego Baca, Zorro)?

I wish they would do a Zorro Treasure Set, and also a Hardy Boys treasure set. The Disney Hardy Boys series was so awesome, Tommy Kirk, and Tim Considine, were marvelous as Frank and Joe Hardy.

Not really since it's not an official annoucement. The man spoke with Maltin earlier that day before coming to speak at Disneyland about the 50th Anniversary. He told him yesterday. He mentioned it briefly during the Q&A portion of the presentation.

Since dizfan made the post, I'll follow up. I was there also last night and what prompted Dave's info about the Treasures was a question about Swamp Fox. Dave did mention Swamp Fox would be on the Treasure. The question now is will the entire Treasure be Swamp Fox or will it be a selection of episodes.

Hopefully, the offical announcement will be made soon!

I think earlier this week I wondered if some collection could be released -- perhaps as a Treasure, but not necessarliy -- (like the 2004 two-movie DVD of Davy Crockett) that could include Dr. Syn episodes, Johnny Tremain, and Swamp Fox.

With the 'Heroes' Treasures declaration, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan and more come to mind, but those were released 'American Legends,' plus, Johnny was part of 'Melody Time.'

Johnny Tremain was a film that was just shown on Disneyland, so if anything it would be released as a film. As for Dr. Syn it is on it's way at some point this year supposedly!

Maybe this "Disney Heroes" will be a multi-volume Treasure. This year's "Disney Hero" volume: Swamp Fox, future volumes: "Zorro," "El Fego Baca," "Hardy Boys??" Can't wait to find out for sure, but I'm likin' that kind of deal.

Swamp Fox, Baca, maybe even Gallagher if they streach a bit, but I think Zorro and the much hoped for Texas John Slaughter are unlikely. They're just WAY too long with too much material to be a Treasure. We'd be getting volumes for YEARS if they decided to do it that way.

I wish Gallagher, and Swamp Fox would come out on dvd. I have a few episodes of both on vhs, that my mom recorded in the 80's and I love them. I sure do hope that they come out on dvd in treasures sets soon.

I was thinking about Gallagher myself not long after the last post and it occured to me: let us assume there will be a Treasure for each "land" in Disneyland. We've already done Tomorrowland, so a Main Street USA set might include Gallagher, much like an Adventureland might cover the TLA. Just food for a thought.

About "Disney Heroes": I guess I'm not too keen on a volume based on "bits and pieces" that would rather require a whole Treasure each. But I won't jump to conclusions yet.
