I'm not fond of the new cover or the green color scheme. Her face looks off-patter, and there is an extreme focus on the animals instead of the people. I prefer the look of disc one.
Imagine a cover that would feature the woods on one side with the shore and approaching sails on the other, with Pocahontas and John Smith somewhere in the middle.
As it is, I actually like the gold collection cover better. (Although I KNOW I don't prefer its content).

That's the cover I like, the French slipcover. It's beautiful. It would be nice if R1 kept what they had and put a slipcover over it with the French design. If I had money I would seek out that French DVD release just for the cover.

Was it different in US?

I'm in complete agreement with KinOO. There's nothing that spectacular or revolutionary about this cover art - it's just long-existing art that's been irised into some green fuzz. O_o

However, if we had art that dared to be more abstract and sophisticated - like the French collector's editions seem to be time and time again - then I would be impressed. Otherwise, this ain't nuthin' special. :P

I don't much like the green either. The more I look at it, the more off-kilter it appears--like I'm looking through a haze of a bad dream after eating too much Chinese food or something. I'm sure they were going for a "colors of the wind" look but that just makes it look even stranger. Pocahontas also looks a tiny bit off model (I noticed this in the larger picture on the coverart page of this site) but of course I'm not surprised about that. ;)

I don't know. I don't hate it but I'm not in love with it--sad because Pocahontas is my favorite Disney animated film (hrm, after Sleeping Beauty, anyway). Overall, the cover is "nice" though, if a bit children's book-ish. I doubt they'll do much tweaking to it, anyway.

(The French slipcover is lightyears ahead or anything we'll probably be getting for a long while on our covers so no comment on that.)
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

The mood of this thread is becoming too negative, time to throw a bit of Jayden cheer in. I personally really like the cover, if only for the fact that it goes with my Alice In Wonderland cover. Pocohontas does look a little off-kilter, but so did Mulan on the cover for that 2-disc set, so it's something I'm used to.

One reason I'm really glad that they've decided to not go with the French cover is that it ruins the consistency that Disney has produced with it's covers up until now. The one thing I really like about the Disney covers on their 2-disc editions is that the artwork takes up the entire front of the box and the name is enclosed within that artwork, but separate due to a border that is appropriate for the movie. If you look at all of the 2-disc editions released so far, you can see this quite clearly (with the one exception of Beauty And The Beast, however even still that one doesn't look like a sore thumb out (they somehow managed to make it look somewhat like it fits, so no complaints here)
Cheers!

What are you people talking about?! The green scheme is the only unique and beautiful thing I'm seeing with the cover art. The rest was just paste from the Gold Collection cover.

ARGH! Once again some European country gets a more unique DVD cover design. I'm starting to think that Disney DVD cover artists in the US have gotten to the point of pure laziness with their cover designs since most of the Disney DVDs I'm seeing these days seem to be designed with a cheap Photoshop of old promos of the past and slapped on a cover with a bunch of glaze. Would anyone agree with me?

I think that the cover artists were going for consistency here, as the cover comparisson with Alice In Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition suggests. Consistency is not everything, but it's a really nice thing to have. I terms of originallity, no it's not the most original design (after all, it was picked off the French single disc), but it fits in with the design of the other "Masterpiece Edition" DVD perfectly. If they break the consistency with Lilo And Stitch, the only other announced "Masterpiece Edition", then I would complain. As it is, the consistency in the look of the lines is more important than originality in my opinion

What? The Gold Collection cover of Pocahontas looks nothing like the 2-disc edition's cover (it was much prettier, although I admit it wouldn't be consistent with Disney's other 2-disc DVD covers of late). Unless you mean some other region cover other than R1. ;)

The hazy green border around Poca and the others looks a bit weird to me but it would probably look just as weird--if not at least a touch odd--without it. So I guess this is one of those [lesser] cases of being screwed if you do and screwed if you don't (can't please everyone though, right?). :p

I like the UK 2-disc Pocahontas cover (I think a similar image was used on the U.S. VHS release) better but I'm not too keen on seeing reused artwork; the 10th Anniversary cover may not be new, per se, but I personally haven't seen it before... yknow, aside from on the Australian release. And no, nothing beats the gorgeous slipcover on the French edition and while I wouldn't really want to see the French slipcover on the U.S. DVD due to consistency problems, I wouldn't mind it at all if Disney were to release a special boxset of Pocahontas using the same image... *nudge nudge Disney*

That would actually be a good solution to our little problem here, for those of us that want consistency, pick up the normal edition, those that wish for the "cool" (though I'm not a huge fan of it myself) French styled slipcover, pick up the Special boxset. Those that want both, well.... buy both. However, I highly doubt that they'll release a box set for it

What in the world is that? It's the same cover that we got here in scandinavia with only small differences when it comes to the colors, very funny indeed. A Masterpiece Edition with the ugliest and most childish cover ever, I really liked the 1-disc cover with the yellow/red colors (it was sooooo nice).

The french cover really rocks. It's sad that no one is getting as beautiful covers as they get.

I don't like it, too kiddy and unoriginal.

The french one on the other hand is a work of art.

well, I´ll try download that french cover in high quality from the net, and print it in some glossy paper with a profesional printer and that´s it!

the only thing I´m worried about is for the language tracks it could have, since the latinamerican edition is a fine piece of crap

I really like it overall- the green is really what makes it (b/c the other regions' version of this cover isn't all that great... I really dislike the French version as well). Now if they could just fix Pocahontas' weird facial expression and add John Smith and Gov. Radcliffe, we'd have it made! I, too, agree that it's like AiW's ME cover, which isn't a bad thing! I must admit to being more excited about buying it now that this has been released, because it's probably among my 10 least favorite animated classics.

The disc art is wonderful!

I think the UK cover is too girly in color, but the US one is so...odd. Neither really conveys the magical experience of the movie, or gives it a really cool feel. The gold collection cover is still my favorite...maybe I'll see if I can order a replacement gold cover!!
