Disney's Remaining Movies

Post by The Monkey's Uncle »

With Disney Releaseing so many movies. do you think we will be able to own all of the Disney films on DVD before a new format? With Disney releasing things like summer magic, and million dollar duck, im worried that they will release the comedies first, and some of the more obscure titles will never come out to DVD.

i have made a list of movies that are not on Disney DVD. this list includes the anchor bay titles that have not been released by Disney yet, and it Does not include the april and may titles that have been announced. And then there are the titles that are on DVD, but might as well not be because they are pan & scan.

I really hope so. Has there been anything concrete yet? I'm just worried Disney will pull it from 2005 because they think it's not high priority.

I would like the "Ducktales" TV serie boxset in R1 (hm, I don't think this has been released officially in any region) but since I don't see that happening for a while, the movie's release would be great.

Disney's always pushing stuff back. </3 There isn't a 20-year anniversary for the movie coming up in 2006, is there?

Speaking of The Song of the South here's some news from IMDB.com:
Disney May Finally Release 'Song of the South' on Video

The Kansas City Star, which has been running a daily feature saluting past Oscar winners in the run-up to the awards show on Feb. 27, today (Tuesday) selected Disney's 1947 film Song of the South, which won the best song Oscar ("Zip-a-Dee-Doo-dah") and a special Oscar for its star, James Baskett. It is the only Disney animated film never to have been released on home video in the U.S., largely because it was condemned during the civil rights era by the NAACP for "the impression it gives of an idyllic master-slave relationship." A website devoted to the film, www.songofthesouth.net, has collected over 60,000 names on a petition to encourage Disney to release the film, and Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook is being quoted as acknowledging that it has received more requests for a DVD release of the movie than any other film. Cook noted that a similar complaint about racial issues was addressed when the studio released World War II material in the Walt Disney Treasures DVD series "through introductions that place the material in context." Cook said that he was "confident" that a similar solution could be found for Song of the South.

It's nothing too new. I heard all this recently but it's news. :)

Song of the South, DuckTales: The Movie, and Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken are the MIA Disney titles I'm most interested in. DuckTales is very likely, but who knows when (if?) Wild Hearts could come, and I don't think I even need to address Song of the South.

I never really thought about it until I looked at this list, but it's painfully surprising that the Shaggy Dog has not been released to DVD. It crossed my mind that maybe they're holding back on it because it's in B&W, but the Absent-Minded Professor is also B&W. Hmm. It almost makes me wonder if they're waiting until they can do another remake of it and release it as a promotion? Who knows.

But the title I'm really dying for is Perri. I have lots and lots of wonderful memories attached to that film, and it's never even been on VHS in the US. I happened to tape it off Disney Channel years ago, but it isn't the greatest quality. Not enough people know anything about this wonderful little "true-life fantasy" (the story is by Felix Salten, Bambi's author).

They are doing a remake of The Shaggy Dog that'll come out in '06. Not quite sure whether or not you were being ironic or really didn't know about it.

 Woah, I honestly hadn't heard about the remake yet! But with the direction that Disney has been heading lately, it was not too difficult of a prediction.

It was recalled on home video in (I think) 1999. It wasn't released on DVD until the spring of 2003. It is still in print.
