The quote about King Magnifico's villain song: "the deliciousness and danger of that", makes me hope that his song is going to be something special when it comes to the song itself and the visuals. It's been quite a long while since WDAS did something like this, "Shiny" from Moana comes close, but Tamatoa only has something of a cameo part in the final film.

I'm curious to hear that song. The following part also caught my attention:

"Asha will have to find the strength within herself to inspire the entire kingdom to stand up to Magnifico and use increasingly dangerous magic in the hopes of saving Star and saving them all."

I wonder what kind of magic Asha will have to use. Will it be magic from Star or from Magnifico's magic book or orbs, for example? And what will she have to save Star from? Is it losing its strength or magic for being on Earth with Asha? Is Magnifico trying to destroy it? Also, in what way will Star help Asha defeat Magnifico?

Does anyone else find it strange that they are using both "Make a Wish" and "Becarefu What You Wish For" as taglines because they pretty much contradict each other? The latter is especially strange because they try to present that wishing is good and the evil king tries to prevent people from doing that.

Okay, that's just mean, people are saying that because they want to ride on that Disney hate train. It doesn't even look like AI, the biggest indicator being that they don't have multiple fingers which is what AI struggles to do. I actually really like the photo because I love photos of characters hanging out and being happy together. It just makes my heart swell with joy

Some new info I've seen in the articles, mostly about Magnifico:


• Magnifico's name is a nod to Maleficent.

CHRIS BUCK: And then, even the name Magnifico came from, well he's basically a narcissist. So of course he would call himself Magnifico. But it was also sort of a nod to Maleficent, right? So Maleficent, it's in the name, sort of what her character is, and then this guy's, well, he would come up with a name like that. So we had fun with that.

• He built the kingdom of Rosas.

Lee also observed that while Magnifico is self-named, which is certainly revealing a grandiose side, “He’s self-taught and he also he formed this kingdom himself. He wasn’t born into this. He had to be so charismatic. And we had to be able to believe his philosophies ourselves because he was able to woo people from all around the world. And that was something we had never done before too which was important to the story to really get across what he thought he was doing. That was a fun breakthrough in it.”

In one of the clips shown at the press event, an early encounter between Magnifico and Asha – who is seeking a job working for Magnifico at the time – has him confiding in her about the huge losses his family endured when he was young and how he wished he knew how to use magic back then to protect them.

As Lee explained, “The biggest thing we saw is people just really wanted not just the arch black and white kind of villain, but they wanted to know his wounds.” She added, with a chuckle, “I was like, ‘Oh, it’s so us now as a society.’ We want to get deep underneath and almost the therapy inside the psyche. And that was delicious. So [it was] the concept of really deconstructing, and going back to his childhood and understanding his choices and where’s the benevolent part of him?”

• Asha is about to turn 18, which is when people at Rosas are expected to give up their wish to Magnifico.

The Kingdom of Rosas was founded by King Magnifico (voiced by Chris Pine), a sorcerer with the power to grant wishes, which draws hopeful grantees to the island. They willingly give their wishes to King Magnifico, forgetting what they were in the hopes that he will make their wish come true someday. Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose) is a Rosas resident on the verge of turning 18, at which time she will be expected to give up her own wish. Her grandfather, Sabino (voiced by Victor Garber), is about to turn 100, and his wish has yet to be granted, so when Asha gets the opportunity to become the sorcerer’s apprentice, she hopes King Magnifico will grant Sabino’s wish. When he doesn’t, Asha begins to question everything and sets off in search of a way to make her grandpa’s wish come true and avoid losing her own in the process. And thus, the adventure begins.

One other important thing the Wish team knew they had to include if they were going to have a true central villain? Reyes Lancaster Jones remarked “From the very beginning, we also knew that we would have the return of the villain song, which I know we all love about them.” And indeed, we were shown Magnifico’s very fun big number, “This is the Thanks I Get,” in which he bemoans all he believes he’s done for the people of Rosas, only to now find himself facing opposition – while not realizing Asha is spying on him.

So, I recently rewatched the trailer of Wish, edited and converted into 4k, and it is much more better than the one Disney Animation released. You can clearly see the finite details in the background and the linework in the characters. It really feels like a watercolor painting or storybook coming to life just like what Disney said.
