Speculation on my part, but I believe Disney+ picking up this doc is also part of a deal to guarantee Julie’s participation in PD3. I think there will be announcement of her involvement with the third movie, in some form, next month at D23.

I just don’t understand Disney’s refusal to revive anything on Broadway. They have 30 years worth of shows, many quite successful in their original runs, but none have ever been revived on Broadway. There must be some arcane business calculus to this I don’t understand, idk.
