I've got to chime in on the defense here and say that as much as I enjoyed The Incredibles (which definitely has more adult appeal), I've gotta give the edge to The Polar Express , which I found to be wonderful (I'm really frustated with the hostile remarks coming from some reviewers. Perhaps you gu...

Considering The Polar Express opened on a Wednesday, I don't think it's fair to compare its gross to a weekend gross at this point .

I cared about anamorphically-enhanced transfers before I got a widescreen TV. I would buy a non-anamorphic widescreen disc if it were the only correct aspect ratio edition available.

Oh man, good call. The spindle lead-in from Sleeping Beauty is amazing.

There's just no contest; it's the library scene in Something Wicked This Way Comes . Say what you will about the rest of the film, this scene makes the whole thing worth the price of admission. The dialogue is delicious, and the chemistry between Robards and Pryce blows all competition out of the wa...

You can buy the film. Disney released their DVD of Return to Oz just this past February, and it's still very much in print if slightly harder to find than the company's "big name" titles. If you can't find it in a store near you, you can always order it online.

Robin Hood is easily one of my favorite Disney animated films. To me it's disheartening and sometimes even a bit ridiculous to find such hostile comments aimed at the quality of animation or character designs. When I first saw it as a kid, I loved it, and I love it just as much, if not more, today....

Speaking of So Dear to My Heart , we never have received a definite answer as to why the DVD has been delayed, when it appears to have been finished being produced. I know some people have optimistically thought it might be considered to be packed with an upcoming SOTS release. What other possible r...

If any studio isn't afraid of windowboxed transfer, it's Disney. They've done it again and again for both animation and live action films. You're right, they've certainly done it before. I wonder what the situation with SWTWC was? the anamorphic transfer has to be better than what Anchor Bay offere...

Well, it looks like my worst fears have been confirmed. Disney has changed the aspect ratio (afraid of "window-boxed" anamorphic transfer?) and has included a full screen transfer of the film as a wonderful way to eat up bitrate.

Darn.

To Something Wicked This Way Comes reviewer

On the Anchor Bay disc, Disney refused to allow Disney/Buena Vista names in the trailer, so the very end of the trailer (the title card) was matted to block the Disney names (making it looks like an aspect ratio change). I was wondering if this DVD contains the same "edited" trailer, espec...

Yes, I always want to see it the way it was intended. But what I was trying to say is that I think some movies, particularly in the 70's when widescreen home videos didn't exist, were shot by the director with the intention of just unmasking it for a video release, because at the time it was much e...

I completely agree with Luke here. In many cases a movie is filmed in the 1.33:1 ratio with the intention of "masking" off the top and bottom for theatrical presentation. A lot of times with movies like this, studios use the "open matte" version with the full screen releases whic...

Possible Something Wicked This Way Comes specs?

I visited the Something Wicked This Way Comes DVD section of the Disney website very recently to find no technical information. I just checked a minute ago to find that it has been updated . According to the page, the specs are apparently similar to Anchor Bay's. It's listed as containing both full ...

Agh. So the new Disney DVD will not contain the original screening cut or the real original ending, but the two "editor's endings" that we got with the AB disc, not to mention less extras. I guess it's not worth an upgrade. I wonder, if the TV spots are included, if Disney will put the Dis...
