Re: Hexed
what i meant with clichee is that the round big eyed artstyle is soo overdone that literally AI can perfectly replicate that artstyle atp. Disney always tweaked their artstyle throughout the decades and now theyre stuck with this one for 18 years. Even when Mermaid became their first big success in...

Re: Hexed
I'd rather see the cancelled untitled Persian / Iranian princess animated film Or a grand mythical animated epic set in Japan, etc. The themes of wizardry and magic have been oversaturated in popular culture since the release of Harry Potter in 1997. Hexed looks uninspired, recycled, generic and bo...

Re: Atlantis: The Lost Empire Discussion
"Masters of the Universe" belongs to a very similar genre and broadly tries the same nostalgic pitches, and so I'm sure everyone at Disney is watching the performance of that movie and making notes. Even so, there's a twenty-year gap between the two properties, and so the demographics don'...

Re: Hexed
I for one was actually really taken by the trailer. I think that Billie's design is just off-center from the Disney princess template, like I'm watching an AU where Rapunzel went through a teenage rebellion phase. Really, the fact that it's like recognizably Disney with some deliberate variations is...

Re: Atlantis: The Lost Empire Discussion
Once upon a time, I would have thought they were out of the question for the reasons you listed. But with Disney running out of viable options, and especially with their Star Wars and Marvel offerings turning belly-up at the box office, they might be willing to try anything. Which might be why they'...

Re: Atlantis: The Lost Empire Discussion
I'm also pleasantly surprised. Makes me wonder if the prospect of LA remakes for this and Treasure Planet are being fished. Seeing the success of "Lilo & Stitch" and seeing how they're out of Walt-era and Renaissance properties to harvest, they might actually be hoping that millennial ...

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
I really like the idea behind letting "both Moanas" sing, but at the same time, it only further reveals the cracks in the artifice. This whole idea of Auli'i "passing the torch" seems ... really forced seeing as how she is still going to be actively contributing to Moana's charac...

Re: Hoppers
*shrug* I'm a liberal arts kid. "Reading too much into it" is what I do. To me, the idea behind scrutinizing films for blindspots is less about trying to outsmart the film or the people who love it--at least it ought to be--and more about doing everything to be proactive in how we internal...

Re: Hoppers
For me, the hang-up with giving us an alternate bad guy to the capitalist/politician is that kind of feels like a red herring. A strawman. This overarching suggestion that there's always someone worse who actually deserves our hatred more feels like a really effective get-out-of-jail for free card, ...

Huh. Maybe the castle in the live-action film would have looked better if they had just taken this approach?

Teaser Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIKfR_uF_d0 Not gonna lie, I don't know if I would have noticed any kind of "groundbreaking animation" technique based on just this clip if I didn't walk in expecting it. But this was also a fairly static clip. Maybe a wider range of footage w...

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Moana | Catherine is Moana | In Theaters July 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHS_C2MviPM I think I've overall liked the glimpses at this actress. She doesn't serve the fairy-tale wonder of like Halle Bailey or Lily James, but I can also concede that Moana the film isn't necessarily chasing that...

Re: Hoppers
I caught it again this weekend. I think it'll ultimately land at a respectable 8/10 for me, similar to like WALL-E and LUCA in the ranking. I also really liked the moment where George sees Mabel's robot and human bodies for the first time. I think the thing that'll hold it back will be the handling ...

New trailer gives us our first look at "Your Welcome," which I always knew was going to face hurdles in being adapted to live-action but was still somehow hoping it'd look more natural than this

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
The angling of the top pic isn't super flattering, but I think she looks positively elegant in the second.
But I again confront how the insistence to carry over the exact designs from the animated film is only doing more to expose the non-necessity of this remake.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Discussion
Sounds like more of what I'd hoped from the Angelina Jolie film--a genuinely dark origin story befitting a proper villain. Ideally, not pandering to people who have never liked the animated film and never will, no matter how much you mutilate it.

My expectation was with Toy Story 5, which is just around the corner.

Re: Classic Disney Compilations
Ah, I actually do remember those. To this day, I actually still associate Timon and Pumbaa's outro for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" with "Maybe he's right. Maybe there is something the matter with me ..." and the end of that number with the opening for "One Jump Ahead.&qu...

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Weird that we haven't heard any buzz over the kinds of songs that were added for this remake. Once upon a time, those were part of the main billing for these things. I don't suppose that bodes very well for, I don't know, Hei-Hei's answer to "Scuttlebutt" ...

Re: Toy Story 5
It may just be happening in circles we're not a part of. Or, we really are living in a landscape where ticket-buyers make their decisions not based on what kinds of movies they actually like, but on what they feel obligated to indulge in to stay part of the in-crowd. And then they go onto YouTube an...
