Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Aladdin seems to be doing well. I'm guessing they want to keep it until Frozen is ready. Just business. Hmm... That depends if Aladdin is doing amazing business right now. They wouldn't get rid of it just like that just to make room for an adaptation of their highest grossing animated film if Aladd...

Re: Disney's Live-Action Cinderella (2015)

That Youtube version of "Lavender's Blue (Dilly Dilly)" are not Lily James singing, is it? It does not sound like her, and people have commented on the video that it is from a CD with music for children. You're correct, it's not Lily James. The song is a very old folk song and there have ...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Confirmed by Erik Liberman on his twitter: What?! So that means we'll NEVER see this on Broadway?! :( It means that the cast was told there are no plans for a Broadway transfer. But that doesn't mean "never." We were told Aladdin wasn't headed for Broadway/was just for regional licensing,...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Someone on BWW clarified that the cast members were told that there won't be an immediate/fast transfer to Broadway. (meaning, unlike it was rumored, it won't be going to Broadway in the fall.) I don't know if reasons were given, it could be any number of things--the show not being quite ready, ther...

Re: Disney's Live-Action Cinderella (2015)

However, if I had one complain about the movie, is how Cinderella forgave her stepmother for her cruelty. I know the purpose of the fairytale is being rewarded for goodness and kindness. But still I've would liked if Cindy at least stood up to her stepmother is a spiteful way. Nooooo no no no. That...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Okay, so I watched Michael's performance of "Out There" and all I could focus on was the makeup, if that's what it really is. Is the "Facepaint" supposed to represent his deformities? I mean, come on. The Phantom of the Opera's stage makeup is way more convincing! :| It's not me...

Re: Disney's Live-Action Cinderella (2015)

Take this with a grain of salt, but IMDB trivia says the other princess dresses are represented in the ball scene. Anyone have pictures that might prove this? Having now scene the movie, I wish Maleficent had taken the same tone and been as well done. There aren't that many major film adaptations o...

Re: Disney's Live-Action Cinderella (2015)

Just saw it again and it was truly a beautiful and magical film. The waltz between Ella and Prince Kit was, perhaps, the most beautiful and romantic think I have ever beheld. I think the first time I saw it at the press screening, I was too focused on what was cut from the screenplay. As a standalo...

Re: Disney's Live-Action Cinderella (2015)

I finally got a chance to look through A Wish Your Heart Makes: From the Grimm Brothers' Aschenputtel to Disney's Cinderella and in the section about the live action film, they bring up an aspect of the prince's character (and the Prince/Ella dynamic) that must have chopped sometime after the book w...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

As for Esmeralda's death, I just don't think that because the BOOK killed her, the show needs to. Again, this is the DISNEY spin on Hunchback, and whether it's on a stage or on a screen, it needs to set itself apart. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE would be happy if Disney decided to bring the Little Merm...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Well, then, we just disagree. Because I do not see Disney Frollo as anything so simple as a caricature. He's one of the most complex villains in the movies, something of a mix between Amon Goth of Schindler's List and a religious zealot/madman akin to Robert Mitchum's false preacher Harry Powell fr...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

""The most galling thing, to me, is the idea that the deleted song from the film, "In a Place of Miracles," has been restored. I always found this song to be one of those songs that emphasizes the worst excesses of Alan Menken. You know, the cheesy, sentimental lovey-dovey BORING...

Re: Once Upon A Time (ABC TV Series)

I agree, for a moment I thought Elsa would be the one to get sucked in. Great episode, hate having to wait now. :P I enjoyed season 3 and thought it was a step-up from season 2, but I believe this season so far is looking to be the best since the first. Love all the little details about the charact...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

She dies from the effects of smoke inhalation in both productions. But it doesn't make sense. She coughs on the smoke in the movie and she turned out okay. :| The Disney film had no intention of killing her character, so they wrote her character as surviving. The stage shows did want her to die, so...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

You know what I don't understand about Esmy's apparent death? Despite the fact she is saved from burning at the stake, she's supposedly fine and they just make it seem like she dies just like that without explanation. I mean, I don't know. I never saw the German stage production. She dies from the ...

Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway

Quasimodo talks and sings in the show. At one point during previews, the show referenced the fact that the bells made Quasimodo partially deaf. During a scene with Esmeralda, she talks to him while he is looking away but he doesn't respond, until she touches him--he turns and realizes what's happene...
