You Know What?... There should be permanent DVDs of all ACs

It would be great if Disney PERMANENTLY released every animated classic they ever did with superbly remastered video and sound on two disc DVD's. <sigh>

They always talk about preserving their works for future generations, what better way to do this than by immortalising them on DVD?

OK, I see the point that they are "special" and they don't want to be ruined by being seen everywhere all the time. I also realise it's really good marekting for Disney and will rake in mountains of cash.

I'm sure there are millions of people who thirst for Beauty And The Beast or Fantasia on DVD, but can't because they are out of print.

Overall, I'm frustrated but I understand Disney's standpoint. I supopose the marketing is working though. Since many DVD's are limited I have become obsessed with acquiring them! After all there is an entire forum and website devoted to Disney DVD's! They have such a grip on us, which I supppose is what they wanted. If so, kudos on a successful marketing idea!

I just wish I could have every Disney classic I guess!

Yeah it sucks that they only keep them out there for such a short period of time. Especially for those, like me, who caught on to the Disney DVD craze a bit late. So I've missed some of the ones I've wanted.

eBay! I know it gets pricy for some of them, but it's a good way to get ones you missed. Like I missed Snow White...and found it on ebay...and the prices range from $10 to $90..you just have to keep an eye out. or try other websites. I know I found this great site inetvideo.com you put in a request for either new or used of a title and they'll find it for you and email you when it's available.

Don't forget Amazon.com! Users sell their dvds in new/used/good condition. It's how I got my Silly Symphonies Treasures DVD with the tin! (as well as Tarzan)

But I agree. The "vault" is a major pain in the arse. I have to wait a while, now, for Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. Although, if I'm ever going to get Fantasia on DVD, I would like to have the uncut version.

It's just a matter of being vigilant. If you don't mind getting it used, find a local retailer that sells used DVDs, keep an eye on the previously viewed at rental places (Remember you can always fix a broken disc by sending it to Disney who will return a new one to you for minimal charge), go into every DVD store in your area, or a few of the other stores that don't necessarily specialize in DVDs (i.e. Chapters, because their DVD's are a little higher priced, they don't sell as many and thus you may have a good chance of finding some of the OOP ones. You may pay a little more, but it's totally worth it), just completely wear out all of your sources before throwing in the towel.

It's a crappy system for us collectors, yes, but we still have to make the best of it.

I know what you guys are saying. I like many of you am late in on getting into the Disney DVD experience. That, and I didn't want to start buying unless I could get all the ones I wanted.

Also, I was never impressed with DVD quality. I learned from the very beginning that there was never going to be much to impress me. However, this was because I had never purchased an older film subject to Disney's tireless restoration efforts. Now I REALLY want to get Aladdin on DVD and especially Snow White, since I've read that both the video and audio are absolutely the BEST, 100 percent quality, no faults at all. This review came from DVDVerdict.com. I'm also a little bothered by the other Disney DVDs. How no other Disney animated classics on DVD are up to the standards of the Platinum Editions. The first Disney DVD I wanted was Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad, and I hear the transfer is rather poor. And now I really want to get Melody Time for the bonus cartoon Lambert the Sheepish Lion.

But since Alice in Wonderland was released in that Masterpiece Edition, I think that was a very hopeful step ahead of maybe other Gold Collection titles will be re-released in special edition form.

Very true. As for purchasing over Amazon? I check the comments left by sellers who purchased from the customre as well as the description of the DVD the seller made. If it's not factory sealed and does not have the disney stamp in the description, then I move on. I try not to purchase used DVDs from Amazon.com... but it was one of my last resorts for the Silly Symphonies Treasures DVD set since it's so rare.

When I looked for the Treasure set, I made sure it came with the tin. A lot of users weren't selling the tin with the DVD. When the DVD came to me, it was factory sealed with the tin and the little paper.. thing.. that goes around the tin on it. When I unwrapped it, it still had the security sticker on it. I checked the dvd inserts, and all of them were there.

When I order from Amazon, I try to steer away from the used DVDs online... but, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

Even if they say factory sealed with disney stamp, doesn't mean you wont get a bootleg, I understand it's gonna happen.. Just curious if there was a preference over amazon to ebay.. I don't like the idea that on amazon your going on words only.

True, I just started seriously collecting them, I had most of the Pixar and a few other animated ones.. but recently decided to seriously collect all the animated movies.. I did a calc and it's going to be roughly 99 movies.. I see myself having the collection completed by end of year early next year.. I'm 43 allready in. I would just like to find a source that I can buy with confidence on the older OOP stuff.

So far I received 2 bootlegs that I was fortunate enough to get refunds. And I did a buy from here too.. So I trust those who post here more than ebay and amazon.

It costs $6.95 (plus whatever the shipping is to their facility). Just call the Disney 1-800 Number first and let them know it's coming.

You have to send in the whole thing (2 discs (if it's a 2 disc set), the keepbox and all the inserts), they'll send you a brand new one (So the CS Rep told me, I'm still waiting for my Silly Symphonies back, but it's been just over a week now so I just have to be patient)
