First day sales of Bambi: Platinum Edition!

Post by MadonnasManOne »

According to www.thedigitalbits.com :

In the meantime, we've got some interesting DVD news for you today. First up, Disney has informed us that it's Bambi: Special Edition has sold nearly a million copies in its first day of release on VHS and DVD. We don't have exact numbers for each format, but still an impressive achievement.

Pretty impressive, indeed!

I'm sorry if this thread should have went somewhere else. If it should, then an administrator/monitor will move it.

Oh, I was definitely being sarcastic! I couldn't find the emoticon for "dripping with sarcasm".

To be clear: There is a HUGE market for 2D!

(And I hope they don't release everything on DVD again! I don't think I could afford it!)

Maybe one day Luke will make an icon for "sarcasm" since there are lots of sarcastic comments. ;)

No wonder.

I was actually quite surprised to have seen the movie been picked up right away people saw it at display.

Altough I'm 99% sure that's because people love the movie, I wonder if the rest of the persons are buying it just because of the name.

It's hard to argue with the power of name recognition on Disney films. I think that's why so many of the DTV sequels do as well as they do.

Plus, Bambi rock. :)

Wow, great news indeed. It sold the same number of copies "Snow White" did in the day of its release in 2001.
Since Disney is giving us the numbers, I wonder if it sold better than "Aladdin", considering Disney said nothing about that DVD's sales numbers.

Keep up the good work guys! Maybe we can convince Disney yet that the 2d market is not dead and that we want QUALITY animated theatrical releases again. Strong DVD sales brought Family Guy back to television, lets bring Disney 2D back to the big screen!
Cheers!

Yay!

Just saw a TV spot during Smallville proclaiming Bambi "the #1 [selling] DVD in America."

This news is especially gratifying in light of Aladdin's apparently disappointing sales last fall. Let's hope the solid start is an indication of strong legs and helps show Disney that it pays to produce quality releases.

Will be buying mine before the wekend.

I have no idea what Aladdin sold but it wasn't nearly a million copies on its release day. I was told they were "very disappointed" in sales.

Hooray for Bambi! Hooray for 2D! Hooray for Disney!

I expect Cinderella to topple all.

This is good news and I do hope Cinderella even does better even if I'm not nearly as interested in getting it. :P

I still haven't got Bambi. I was feeling crappy yesterday and today I was so miserable to do anything. Now tomorrow we are going to have tons of snow. I might just pick it up next Tuesday at Futureshop.

I agree. It makes me want to get five copies of Lady and the Tramp and Cinderella to give out as gifts, just to help drive up the numbers!

That's cool! I guess people really do like 2D animation after all. When I bought my copy of Bambi there were like four or five other people in line in front of me waiting to pay and they all had copies of Bambi. I went back yesterday to Wal-Mart to get Spongebob Squarepants the movie for a friend and I noticed that Bambi was all gone.
